I was just browsing when I got a crash from FF. After I restarted it, it all went wrong. I don't use System Restore, but I got this solved with a fresh FF install, same version.

I tried that in my Firefox 2.0.0.12 and it loaded the page without crashing. It took quite a long time, noticeably longer than it took Internet Explorer to load the same page, but it loaded it. I appear to be missing a Java plugin in Opera, my main browser, and I'm too lazy to download it so I can't compare speeds there.
IE faster than Firefox!
Didn't think it was possible! But memory usage is marginally higher on IE.
Windows XP here. Vista gave me problems just as vexing and unsolvable as your current Firefox problem so I now avoid it like the plague. With somewhat more success than I have avoiding the plague. -
I tried loading the mentioned page in FF 3 beta 3 and it didn't even load the java applet, but in IE7 it loaded very quickly and had the applet up and running soon.
