Can't wait to get home. About 6 months ago I made Opera my default browser and have not looked back. Can say I miss Firefox. Opera works great and just prefer it to Firefox at the moment.

It crashed while trying to import my newsfeed list...

Not a good first impression for a "final" product.

    I tried again, same thing.

Maybe I should try adding them manually?

Do you just use the browser, or do you use the mail portion too?

I didn't really like the new opera look, so right away I installed the classic skin :p . Doesn't really seem to be a whole lot different, but I'm playing with the settings now. I did disable the fraud protection though.

I keep firefox around only to use only if I have compatibilty issues (which is very rare). Since I can't really comment on the newer versions of firefox, the Firefox versions I extensively used in the past felt a lot more "bloated" and "dense" than opera. Opera just feels much lighter and more zippy to me.

Firefox has been hanging often for me, lately. Sometimes when posting at NBR, I can't tell if my comments have been posted or not. Doesn't seem to make any difference which OS I use, either: OSX, XP or Linux.

I installed Opera on the Windows machine this afternoon and am going to see if I have better luck with it than with FF.

Is this really the final version? It is just... very sudden to me. I was shocked when I look at filehippo and Opera is already released. I'm staying with Firefox for now and not going back to Opera soon though.

I recently tried the release before 9.5 and the one thing I liked about Opera was "Speed Dial"

No need for Speed Dial. Bookmark toolbar ftw?
I DL'd Opera to try it out. I actually like some of its features. Sessions and syncing. I don't like the skisn though...

I've been using Opera for a while now, I think its great. This latest version is definately an improvement in speed as well as its new look.

I love opera for being simple and fast, and it's built in ad-blocker is incredible for blocking all those ads on the webpages, wasting bandwidth.
(right mouse click on the webpage then 'Block content' for those who haven't figured it out yet lol)

Used to use the speed dial but to much wiping just reset everything so cant be bother to keep configuring.

Have FF and Opera in Linux also ,Opera is way faster still. KThxBai.

Veoh Player doesn't seem to work on web pages. So far that's the only thing i've come up with. Anything else i'll post back.

It's actually catching a few pop ups that FF never caught, so that's good.

It leaks less memory than FF but most of us have enough memory where that isn't a big issue. When I opened alot of tabs (34 I believe) in both Opera and FF the mem usage was pretty much the same. I think Opera spiked a little higher at times but not by much.

They say its "fast" but it doesnt seem any faster than FF. Maybe when you first open it after starting up your OS, but that's the only time.

Opera has built in mouse gestures (which is my most used add on in FF) which is great.

**edit: When i was trying to edit this post in Opera, I couldn't place my cursor in the text box. It kept acting like there was a hyperlink there. When I finally clicked some pop up came up. Well this came up. No Idea what's up with that

I used FF3RC2 on Vista Business SP1 and I was very happy with it - fast, uses less memory, sleek, simple and nice features (especially the bookmark and history "manager")...

But then I heard Opera 9.5 is out and has quit nice features, so I decided to test that browser.

What I can tell is that Opera 9.5 is a hell of an alternative. I like it and I don't know wether to keep FF3 or Opera because Opera is also fast, but uses much more memory (but since I have 2GB, I never reach above 55% memory usage although opera need 180MB for 8 Tabs).

What I also appreciate in Opera is the Speed dial when opening a new tab and the Mouse Gesture, which was the reason why I installed Opera. What is also a nice little gimmick is, that you can adjust the period at which the site is beeing updated.

Importing bookmarks from FF3 was very easy and uncomplicated, and with Opera Link I hope I don't need to back up my bookmarks by myself anymore in case of emergency.

After what I've seen Opera is very nice and a real alternative to FF3...

Well i'm sure there's an add on for Speed Dial in FF3. There isn't one for mouse gestures yet though, but I'm sure there will be soon enough.

But I also liked that these features come standard with Opera. Mouse Gesture was my most used Add-on in FF2. I wish someone would get it going for FF3 :(

Well its right to say you can't really tell which browser is faster just by feel so I did some searching and I came across this site, its got plenty of tests to run and I ran them on all IE7, Firefox 2 and Opera 9.5 and now I can say from these tests Opera IS the faster browser of the 3.

Feel free to test it out. I'm using Vista Sp1 so it would be great to see how XP performance is if someone would try it and post back.

Isn't "feel" all that matters? If I don't feel or notice a difference in speed, than anything you put in front of me really wouldn't matter, right?

All I'm saying is that I haven't noticed a difference in speed between the two. Benchmark scores don't matter all the time in real life

Well first of there a reason for tests because when some say it feels faster and other don't think it feels faster then obviously tests are to prove if the ones who actually notice the faster browser have better judgement. If you feel fine with your current speed feeling then glad you are satified with the speed but if we didn't want faster browser then why is everyone wanting to go faster all the time ;)

I prefer all the graphics rendered on the webpage as fast as possible and Opera is the best choice for that at the moment.

    Another issues with Opera:

While loading up Myspace, all graphics on the login page are not loaded. This has happened on a few other sites as well.

edit: they graphics loaded now. Just had to restart the browser...

I must say, Opera does a much better job at catching pop ups. im really liking that.

And still getting around the fact that it doesn't separate tabs on 2 or 3 rows, but cramms them all in one line.

I've been using both Opera 9.5 and FF3 since early betas - though I haven't found any major bugs in Opera I still find the layout maddening. In order to get an interface as usable as the one I have in FF3 I have to have twice as many bars in Opera because the interface customization is seriously lacking (can't move elements from one bar to another, only whole bars at a time). Also, Opera's download dialogue doesn't make proper use of the Vista folder browser, while Firefox's does, which is another strike against Opera. I also find it to be slower to load than FF, and I've never had FF use more than ~75 MB of RAM with over a dozen tabs open, so out of 4GB that's nothing.

Personally I don't like at all those modern default skins. They are like comparing standard gray PC box to a MAC box.

Perhaps not image quality, but certainly discernable. In any case, the ability to have groups of them and to be able to configure the matrix of each group is far more powerful than Opera.

I currently have 16 groups (SpeedDial tabs), each of which has a 4x4 matrix (16 thumbnails), for a total of 256 thumbnails. I could have more, but I do not need more at this time.

Well I guess it depends on your needs...
For me 9 speed dial tabs in opera are sufficient and it is a nice feature, which I wouldn't install additionally because:
    a) I didn't know that this feature exists before opera implemented it and
    b) it would be so powerful that it require a bit of work to get used to it.

Actually it's quite easy, as far as i remember the image quality was HD but it was enough for me to identify the web sites very easily. I'm no fan of Speed Dial though (I love my bookmarks) so i can't really give you the opinion of a speed dial lover. ;)

This is not really an Opera problem, but a GMail IMAP implementation quirk.
Opera shows your mail using filtered views (e.g. Unread, Sent, etc.). GMail's IMAP is done with folders for each category of email (All Mail, Inbox, Sent and any labels or folders you've created) and does not allow you to unsubscribe to the ones you don't want to see. When you receive an email, it is flagged as 'Inbox' AND 'All Mail' AND whatever folder you might've filtered it to (e.g. 'Notifications'). When Opera displays your email, it checks all the IMAP folders for mail that has certain properties (e.g. Unread), making messages that were sent to your GMail account show up at least twice (All Mail, Inbox).

There is no real fix until GMail allows users to unsubscribe from IMAP folders. My little workaround was to set up a filter in GMail to funnel all messages straight to Archive (skip the Inbox), so it only appears in All Mail.
