After installing todays windows update and rebooting as needed i had this error pop up:
"RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCRTL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows systems DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."
It pops after every reboot, scandisk is clean, and nothing as far as i can tell so far isnt working. But i'm at a loss what to do. The only thing i can think to do is a system restore, but as ive never done one before im reluctant to do so.

Hmm... have you tried google?
And that's the weirdest error message I've ever seen. Gotta love windows.
As far as google, must be the onboard Realtek software. Try reinstalling your sound software and driver. -
A solution would be to uninstall this program and reinstall it from the CD that came with your system or your recovery partition. If you don't need it---it may be the RealTek Audio mixer or something---then just leave it uninstalled. However, if it is the driver then you must have it installed. -
patch is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/

Ahh sweet thanks, googled it this morning and both it and microsoft came up empty. Nice to see they fix their bork ups quick.
-
Cool, I was just about to install the update that supposedly causes the conflict. Now I can avoid this problem entirely.
-
Sweet I just got this error this morning.. nice find
-
I just rec'd this today after installing a MS critical patch. If all I have to do next is load the "Update for Windows XP (KB935448)", you guys will have rocked.
Brief Description:
Install this update to resolve an issue where the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start after you install security update KB925902 (MS07-017) and security update KB928843 (MS07-008).

I just received this error and googled right to this forum. Thanks for your help.
Note: My Symnatec anti-virus also disabled itself or at least it said it did. Anyone get that error too? -
Just had this message today and I too was Googled right to this forum. Thanks so much for your help- oh I also had a Norton security message along with it- however I followed this forums advice rather than Nortons and the problem is fixed- many thanks again all
-
Funny.... Same thing has popped up on me suddenly. It just popped up now, after i rebooted for a windows update. Good find mate. Glad windows cleared this mess up before it got worse.
-
yeah, norton had a pop up that said "internal error" or something, quite strange if you ask me.. -
Here is the Hotfix from Microsoft for that problem:

I'm pretty sure I have RealTek audio and didn't have this problem. Wierd, but glad that they get the fixes out quickly.
-
Oh, thank god this wasn't just me. I was pretty sure last night's Windows Update was the culprit so I googled and was led here. Before I did this though, I did a system restore to a few days back and now the same icon is in my task bar asking to install it. For my situation, what should I do? Now that I know there's a patch available, do I go ahead and install the damn thing again and then install the patch?? Thanks in advace
-
Thanks for the fix! You guys rock. A case of Cyber beer for you!

I received exactly the same error message, and google directed me to this thread. I have fixed the problem now based on the link provided in this thread. Thanks very much.

Same bull happened to me yesterday morning. Louzy micro$oft. Installing an updated version of the Realtek drivers fixed my problem.

For me, the fascinating bit is how quickly Google picked up this thread and led people here. It was either good timing or Google realise that there's some good material at this site so it needs to be re-searched frequently.

Hi CWB
Same old problem with Microsofts dodgy updates. Why they don't test them first I'll never know. Restore does work
. Go to Start, Accessories, System Tools, Restore, Restore to an earlier date should already be ticked. You should have a bold number 1 on the calender which is an automatic system restore point. Select that and go through the steps. Should sort it out(+ it's reversible if you don't like the results - can't see why you wouldn't though!)
Regards
Andy
OOPS What a lot of replies since I first read the original post and went off to restore my system. Serves me right for not reading it properly when I came back! -

Howbout reading the first page of this thread? ...
The 4th post looks rather interesting, wouldn't you say? -
I installed the patch but the microphone still does not work. Any ideas?
-
Did your mic work before installing the patch?
I would download the latest drivers from RealTek's website and install them. Make sure you uninstall your old RealTek drivers before you install the new ones. -
Nice work!
My mom's PC also happened the same problem this morning and I tried to google around for help when my mom called me. It leads me this forum. Now the problem is fixed.
Thanks -
Thank you so much for the answer, I am really grateful.
-
Hi,
I am receving the same error, only my computer locks me out almost immediately and I cannot install the patch on that system. The keyboard and mouse lock up and I cannot do anything, but shut down and reboot. Any tips for resolving this? -

Hello, can someone please upload the patch on rapidshare or send it to me becaue i cannot download anything off of microsoft's website, i don't know if it has something to do with the ISP but i'd rather not get into it now. Anyone that can send it to me, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance -
Hello
I installed the patch that I found on this site and it removed the pop up of the error but now whenever I start up I get a message that there is a "duplicate name on the network" and it is a "system error".Is it because of the patch or is there something else wrong?
Thank you -
I see we are getting a rush of people registering simply because of this thread. It is something for me to look out for. I will download this patch just in case.
-
You guys rock! I started getting the same message yesterday morning, and I've fixed it! Thanks for the help all ( I LOVE this forum!!!!!!!!
