It's on Technet as well. Showed up right around 1 PM (EST).

no 2008 R2 yet, but the section for it is blank instead of showing the RC builds.
-
technet still has rc loads....
MSDN gets all the love.... -
There are seperate DVD images for Home Prem / Pro / Ultimate. They are all same size, but SHA hash is different. Whats up with that, does anyone know? Don't these work like Vista, one DVD for all editions?

ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
Downloading Ultimate now via MSDN, but can't retrieve a key. Keep getting an error when I click the "get" button. Overloaded servers I bet.
Gary
BTW it is up on TechNet too. -
could anyone post the file name? the final build number please.

I got keys from MSDN. There are also alternate download locations posted in MSDN, at least for me they are much faster than the default ones.
-
got my key
no love for MSDN, I guess. -
Any word on whether or not this'll hit MSDNAA today? The Ultimate Beta and RC were on the MSDNAA, but no such luck finding RTM on my MSDNAA (Iowa State engineering).
-
It looks like the sha1 checksums match 7600.16385 build that was leaked.
Windows 7 Ultimate.
64 bit SHA1: 326327CC2FF9F05379F5058C41BE6BC5E004BAA7
32 bit SHA1: 5395DC4B38F7BDB1E005FF414DEEDFDB16DBF610 -
you're right--about 4 times faster...shh, don't tell anyone.
Normal downloaded started in the 300kb/s range, but has dropped off to below 100 kb/s. The alternate site is humming along at a breezy 500+ kb/s.
At this rate I will be loading in an hour and a half instead of 5 hours. -
How about md5 and crc? HashMyFiles is a nice executable checker that you don't need to install.
-
we're at least an hour away so be patient
-
since sha1 matches, why even bother about the rest?
-
25 minutes to go
-
Some people like triple assurances.
-
So which version is everyone downloading? I'm contemplating between Pro and Ultimate. The only thing I need that's not in Home Premium is Remote Desktop Host; Ultimate seems like an total overkill for me this time around.
-
ultimate---want media center, and need bitlocker and domain joining
-
Well, I need at least Pro for the AD integration. But I figure, why not just get Ultimate? I doubt it actually takes up any significant amount of additional space (and space is cheap anyway) so WTH.
-
Media Center is in Professional, so is Domain join.
BTW, I am downloading Professional - it is enough for me. Plus, since everyone is dowloading Ultimate, I might get better speeds
BTW2, here is a nice comparison chart between editions: http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/win7_skus_compare.asp -
Pro has Media Center too AFAIK, unlike Vista Business.
-
I think Bitlocker is only in Ultimate/Enterprise.
-
They're Up!
But downloading slow as heck. So just set it and forget it!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Hey Wingnut. Last hour called. They want their post back.
Just kidding.

Lol ...
-
Sorry.
What does "boot from VHD" mean? What does that feature allow me to do? It's about the only thing that would possibly make me want to get Ultimate over Professional.
Also for TechNet, if I have multiple machines, does MS recommend or care to get multiple keys or use one key for multiple machines? -
Anyone confirm yet that the CD key work with the leaked RTM from over a week ago?
-
VHS?? Booting from a video tape would be quite interesting. But I think it's VHD (Virtual Hard Disk), the format used to save Virtual PC virtual drives among other things. As in, some leaks were in this format instead of isos.
-
CD key? The OEM key?
-
Boot from VHD means the ability to boot from a virtual hard disk, which is something you may wish to do with various virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V. Honestly, it's one of those "if you have to ask..." sort of things.
In the past a technet key was good for 10 activations, meaning that you could use it 10 times. So if you have three machines that you're installing, you can definitely use a single key simultaneously for all. -
Or you could just request another key. Or does that invalidate the previously claimed key(s)?
-
Since the hashes match with the leaked one. it is the same file. So the Keys have to definitely work.
-
It does not invalidate previously requested keys. I usually request 2 keys outright, figuring that even a compulsive rebuilder such as myself would be hard-pressed to go through 20 actual activations over one year. Especially since I never activate until the last possible day and many rebuilds happen with no activation at all.
I've never been denied a key, but the most I've ever had for any one product is two. I'd imagine that if someone suddenly requested 4 or 5 keys for one OS all at once a red flag could go up, but I dunno. -
Well if everything matches the leaked torrents from about 2 weeks ago, those are very viable alternative downloads, most have been seeded for more then 2 weeks now.
-
Yes, but these are the moral compasses, downloading from legitimate sources. Why else would they purchase subscriptions.
-
Yeah, I corrected that (VHD). So you could only run it in a Virtual environment? Isn't it the same as Virtual PC? Or does it convert the VHD to a bootable partition?
Thanks. So you mean boot your actual client machine with a VHD? How the heck would that work. -
Not only that, but I believe that it's against board policy to directly discuss the illegal acquisition of software. I'm no mod but enough talk about it could get this thread pulled.
-
Isn't it all the same file, just depends on which key you use? Just different between 64-bit and 32-bit, not between versions.
-
What transfer speeds is everyone getting from Technet? Mine is bouncing all over the place, probably average 100KB/sec.
-
This may either be the case or Microsoft might have separated them for individual download from TechNet and MSDN. Otherwise, yes, they should be the same. You can try to verify if a Home Premium or Professional edition has the same hashes as the leaked Ultimate edition. That's why Windows Anytime Upgrade will be available.
-
No, I meant version. Previous poster said he/she was going to download Professional version instead of Ultimate to maybe get a faster download speed. But I'm sure the links at TechNet all point to the same file whether it's Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate. It may be different servers for MSDN though. I would hope so, give priority to MSDN since those subscriptions are worth a heck of a lot more.
-
Simultaneously downloading Ultimate (350 kb/sec) and Professional (150 kb/sec). I started Ultimate about 40 minutes before Pro.
-
May want to try this:
-
..didn't know they added media center to Professional. Still, need bitlocker on this one though....manage several webstores and all the credit card/gateway/bank keys are too ugly to remember and I need them with me, but not easily accessible if someone steals the laptop.
...as noted earlier....
my download speed from technet was about 100 mb/s
my download speed from the alternate site was 550 mb/s
It's all downloaded now... -
Where is the "alternate" site?
-
Yeah, that's way faster. My Ultimate dl was already completed, but Professional had dropped to about 50 kb/sec. On the other link it's coming down at 1.36 mb/sec.
-
leaked versions from zukona were the real deal btw everyone who used them..
-
from your normal download page click HOME
at the bottom of the first paragraph is a link to "alternate download site" -
