Chkdsk /r on a secondary drive with problems re creating the problem, yeah, I'm gonna loose some sleep over this.

It is no where near the "Catastrophic Bug" as portrayed in this sensationalized headline. It is a problem only if you run Chkdsk under certain circumstances. For details check here:

It should not stop anyone from proceeding. A fix is apparently already in the works.

"Probably" blown out of proportion?
I've seen several mentions of the chkdsk /r issue, but none quite as alarming as this guy seems to imply. I can't imagine the tone he would take if unfriendly aliens landed and began mass exterminations.
-
I edited my post to reflect that it is sensationalized, but I was too slow for you
I agree, it's no reason to uninstall Windows 7 - just don't run chkdsk /r until they fix it. Sorry if I sounded like I was promoting that guy's sensationalized view; I didn't mean for it to come out like that. -
ahh, we were all in full blown panic mode last night

Thank you for this. I was under 50KB/sec on the main links and was about to give up but using the alternate link now it's over 1MB/sec!
-
Oops, didn't see that thread
And I've already uninstalled Windows 7 and wiped it from memory (no pun intended) to avoid catastrophic consequences to my computer.
Just kidding, of course -

Any link to download the RTM?
-
I hope you aren't asking anyone to post a link to a torrent...
-
Yay downloading now. Fully legit version. Got to love being a CS major
Nothing wrong with torrenting if you have a valid license. I am not getting it from my school as the media is not up yet but I still have a valid key that I got from MSDNAA. -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
Yes there is, it is illegal and cannot be discussed here at all.
Gary -
Torrenting is just another way to download. If you have a valid license you can get the media however you want.
-
Two things.
First, it's against forum rules to discuss such methods of obtaining software, regardless of your own personal views. The thread will get pulled (or posts deleted) if such things are talked about.
Second, I always wonder how it is that so many people seem to have "valid keys" yet they need to go to pirate sites to obtain the software. How does this seem to happen so often? -
If you read the last page you would have known. At least in my case. I am not saying that everyone who torrents are innocent. Just that not everyone who torrent are guilty. Here Ill use pictures to explain...
-
What a difference between the main and alternate download servers, at least for TechNet. I downloaded x64 Ultimate in 15 mins on alternate, using the main server would have taken three days.
-
I am backing up my Vista right now. I played around with the Beta awhile ago when it first came out. Can't wait to switch into it for good. Always excited with a new OS
Win7 today and OSX 10.6 in a month...life is good lol
-
It's merely a question of respect for forum rules. Obtaining software via torrents is a violation of the manufacturer's licensing agreement, and thus is considered "illegal" regardless of whether someone considers it immoral. The bottom line is, do what you feel you need to do. Just don't discuss it here and put NBR at risk for promoting software piracy.
-
Yeah, great. I had to go to class and just got back using main download servers. Funny thing it, as soon as I got home it was down to 10 seconds left. It just was waiting for me!
On another note, has anyone verified if the same ISO can be used for any version (Basic, Home Prem, Professional, etc)? The file names are different. I pulled a Professional Key and an Ultimate Key. I don't want to have to download and store another 3.5GB file if I can help it -
Haha my friend is downloading from the main right now. As for the ISO I believe you can. My key only works with Pro however but if Vista is any indication you should have no problem with both Pro and Ultimate.
-
I'm just not sure if MS made version specific ISO's for some reason for TechNet and MSDN subscribers. The file names are different, but maybe they did that for tracking reasons and to distribute network load.
-
I dunno. I'm inclined to think the images are the same, but when I installed Professional earlier the EULA said only Professional as the version, where the Vista EULA listed all the versions. So the Professional image seemed to know that it was in fact Professional. Now perhaps it's only the EULA that's different and I actually could have put in an Ultimate key and installed that version fro the Professional image. I'd bet it would work.
-
I'll try it. I plan on installing Professional on two of my desktops and Ultimate on my laptop (for security).
-
I'm sure in a few weeks, if not a few days, we'll see a generic 7 iso on TechNet just like there is one for Vista, offering every edition. But since there are the main four (H P, Pro, Ultimate and Enterprise) already, they're probably in no rush.
-
Or else, you'd need to remove the ei.cfg file from the iso, as for the leaked RTM iso, to have the option screen displayed.
-
I also downloaded and installed the Professional version. For me it only asked the key post-install. So I wonder, if I had given it the Ultimate key, would it have done an upgrade or something?

Nice!!! Whats the expiry date for this RTM release?
-
Uhhh, never! It is THE official release, so you obviously need an official (paid-for) key.
-
This thread's gone cold. I guess everyone's playing with the RTM.
I'm loving it. By far the best and most usable Windows IMO. -
got too busy to install...was just about to do a backup and then reinstall now
