No. This seems to be asked every 20minutes over the past 2 days. Vista SP1 now displays the total amount of RAM you have installed in your computer. It still will not actually use all 4GB. It is a physical limitation of 32-bit Operating System that it cannot use 4GB of RAM.

Ok, I've noticed that SP1 improves my connectivity, both during the duration of the connection and at startup. Unfortunately, unless it's my imagination, it also takes longer to connect when coming out of sleep.

But overall, I think I'm gonna vote for an increase. :p

That is just psychological. I also felt the same. Shut down is a little faster now.

I can confirm that the system hang resuming from standby was not fixed. Despite their claim on the hotfix page, it does not have an effect. It seems the universal problem coming back from sleep with a semi-functioning computer will live on. Other than that, no BSOD, a bit quicker, and smoother game play.

for those who experienced a slow boot time after installing SP1,
you may want to try reinstall vista and install SP1 on it.

there is no guarantee by doing this can solve the problem,
but it happened to me that when I installed SP1 on an "old" vista,
    it slowed down my computer,
but when I install it on a freshly installed vista,
it made my computer a lot faster.

My startup is a tad bit slower. It used to load in 6 bars, now 7.
Everything else is much snappier and faster. SP1 ftw.

ok I got SP1 installed... I didn't compare startup times, but... Firefox seems faster for me on SP1. Wow... I'm sitting here typing this and... what's that noise?... I've heard it in other OSes before, but not Vista... oh yeah... silence! Vista's not thrashing the disk for once... awesome!

Seems like it is finally time for me to get on the SP1 boat and ride it to quieter and faster computing... I assume that the decrease in HD seeks and better fan management leads to better power management as well? Anyone notice a few minutes longer battery life? :p

I have seen a definite improvement in game performance in several games after installing SP1. Smoother frame rates.
I also noticed that SP1 freed up some disk space-about 20 GB-for some reason.
    Has anyone else seen this?

Running Vista Home Premium on a m9750.

The free disk space is just because it deletes all system restore points.

Yes, it does. It's an undisputed fact. But if you think I'm wrong, provide me some evidence, and I'll take into consideration your side of the story. Here is my proof.
System restore and volume shadow copies.

I think that must explain it. I checked my system restore points and I only have one now-dated today. I didn't realize that system restore points take up that much disk space.
Also my drive was 80% full when I loaded SP1 which according to MS will cause the installation to remove the restore points to allow extra room for the install process.

For the most part, SP1 has improved general system performance. I'm seeing the faster network connection and faster startup after logging into Windows, both of which are excellent. One thing that really pisses me off though, is that IE seems to have gotten a big boost in speed and Firefox seems to have gotten slower. I seem to spend more time staring at a blank screen between page loads in Firefox than I used to...and that makes kittens cry.

Booting into Windows seems to take slightly longer. Maybe I just gotta keep waiting for prefetch and superfetch to kick in :/.

I wish it did not delete all my restore points. Those things have destroyed many custom configs, but did save me last week. Gar, ty MS for thinking for me...

    Slight decrease in performance.

Significant increase in the speed of file operations such as copying over a network.

    Significant increase in stability.

Sony SZ650 with 3GB ram and 7200rpm drive.

    3dMark06 free version
    Before: 1054
    After: 1027

The change in the score to me means nothing with that little change. Overall system seem to run faster except as others have said boot up takes a little longer.

For no reason IE keeps freezing in SP1 with UAC enabled. So I disabled UAC. Also the processes ieuser.exe, flashutil9e.exe run only when UAC is enabled, when using IE.

Hey Coolguy, I know that people who have turned UAC off after installing programs have had problems. I'm no authority on this, but I believe it's b/c the files cannot be found unless UAC is on, something to do with a "hidden" filesystem that you need UAC enabled to be able to access. Like I said, I am no authority, buy I wouldn't be surprised if this is what is happening in your case.

weird thing- Under XP I was getting about 30 fps average at 1280x720 OC'ed to 580/445. Under Vista SP1 I get about the same, except without overclocking. I wonder if there was something wrong with my XP install to warrant that large of a performance difference?

I just installed SP1 two days ago and i have to say i haven't experienced any problems, and the system feels marginally faster than before. But maybe I'm not a valid test subject as i didn't have a slow system to begin with. Some notable speed ups are faster shutdown and boot time, with a difference of a second or two. Faster launching of Firefox, loading of desktop, again, a second or two. And significantly faster file transfer speeds. Overall, i am pleased with SP1.
