so has anyone confirmed since the update has been made public will we still have to uninstall this one to install the final one or will it take care of that through windows update for use once the final is released?

How would you go about uninstalling such a package? Would you just do it through that uninstall/change thing in windows? Just making sure so I don't mess anything up, lol.

I installed as well... thought I would test it since I'll be rebuilding my system on thurs with new parts (cpu, ram, and vid). Think I'll put xp on my new build. I'm not a vista hater... I've owned Ultimate for a year next week, but xp does it all... I'm still waiting on that "killer" vista app.

It did not help that I went to uninstall a program and the uninstaller locked up either.... this was after a couple of reboots after installing vista sp1 rc. So far xp sp3 is very smooth.

Nothing to talk about on an xp sp 3 thread. It works... I've not heard any complaints... I've heard some people say it speeds up their system... but no new features to write home about.

Vista needs some fixes, so a new thread is warranted.

If you want to know where to get the drivers check out the "HP/Compaq" section of this forum... or start a new thread. lol

So if VistaGlazz is activated on mine now, can I still install the SP? Or should I depatch it? or uninstall it completely?

I believe vista uses about 50% of RAM no matter how much of it you got. But 39% seems weird

Right now my computer is using 37% of my 2GB, but as far as I'm concerned it could use more because unused RAM is wasted RAM IMO.

Ok, I started installing it and after restarting once, it stopped at the message "Step 3 of 3. 0% Complete. Do not turn off..."

I would wait but my harddrive was inactive... Vista was responding but the harddrive wasn't doing anything, so I had to hard reset it by holding the pwr button..

What's going on? Is it my harddrive, or some error or virus, or is it the update??

    Thanks in advance

I uninstalled it too because of the blue screens. Re-boot once more to get rid of the watermark.

    Wait a minute.
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC Refresh Public Availability Program

This just released back on the 11th. Is this an update to the original RC1? For those that downloaded RC1 when it first came out back in December, did you go ahead and install this one too?

    Link is here.

Strange. I downloaded the two prerequisite updates - both of which caused my OS to fail to start. When I tried the 500MB SP1 RC, I would get the UAC prompt. When I click to allow it to run... nothing happens! I've tried this again and again.

And... I'm still struggling with the 8-10 Jan windows updates that keep crashing my computer...

Yes, it has been known to crash OEM-factory installed Vista for whatever reasons.

As soon as I got my Dell 1330, I did a fresh install of the Dell OEM Vista Ultimate. Will SP1 RC Refresh crash it? Thanks!

But most people [here] uses clean install. Although I'm not sure it affects everyone, but I think I've seen a topic in some constructors sub-forums here (actually, Dell and Asus for now)

Balefire: That's what I'm using (X64 though) and it works no problems. What you got is actually a clean disk, but pre-activated and has the Dell logo (is it what you're using? Or the included disk that came with the laptop?). The included disk might crash it.

Yes, I used a pre-activated OEM Dell logo Vista DVD 32 bit.

I just did a clean format and install of Vista 32 with the included DVD. Hoping all the problems with the updates would go away.

Unfortunately, it's the same thing. Jan 8 updates refuse to let my system start, and once again the SP1 RC doesn't load properly. I don't understand it.

I have SP1 installed (64 Bit & 32 Bit on 2 different notebooks). I love it. Seems very stable. I am slowly configuring to the way i like it. Not sure waht SP1 did but I never once got BSOD. Not sure why others have had so many issues.
