I know I had to remove some of those updates, easily could be a setting not removed.

Basic copy/paste of an Aug 28th article: 'It's not just W10, 7 & 8 are also tracking you – here’s how to stop them
    KB3068708
    KB3022345
    KB3075249
    KB3080149
    {Note kb3021917 may be telemetry W10/upgrade related also}
According to the report, Microhard bypasses any edited instructions in the Hosts file and exchanges data with vortex-win.data.microhard.com and settings-win.data.microhard.com, possibly among others. How to stop data collection: The update KB3068708 mentions two domains which Microhard is deploying to send the data it has collected to; these domains are: vortex-win.data.microsoft.com & settings-win.data.microsoft.com, so to stop this process, simply add these domains to the HOSTS file & they're blocked completely. You can avoid installing these 4 updates; If they've already been installed, they can be uninstalled from within Control Panel (here’s a guide), advanced users can type the following 4 commands using an elevated command prompt:
    wusa /uninstall /kb:3068708 /quiet /norestart
    wusa /uninstall /kb:3022345 /quiet /norestart
    wusa /uninstall /kb:3075249 /quiet /norestart
    wusa /uninstall /kb:3080149 /quiet /norestart

Once the updates are uninstalled, use the Windows Update mechanism to “hide” them (here’s a guide) so that your operating system doesn’t try to reinstall them." (I normally right-clik an upd8 to 'hide' it)

Related 8/30 article from Forbes: Windows 10 Worst Feature Installed On 7 & 8

My Notes: I'm not a W8 user. In Win7, are you opted into the Customer Experience Improvement Program w/out your knowledge? Click / open Action Center (the flag icon in your tray) > Change Action Center Settings > Customer Experience Improvement Program Settings > click 'no' if you'd like to opt-out.
Note: Optional > Open Task Scheduler > Task Scheduler Library > Micro$lap > Windows > if you have an application experience folder, open / highlight folder, disable tasks or delete tasks & folder contents > if you have the cust-exp-improv-program folder, open / highlight, disable or delete tasks (& folder if able).

Copy/paste of more advice I read - research it, then decide to avail it or don't:
"Open Task Scheduler > Micro$lap > Windows and then delete as noted:
    Everything under "Application Experience"
    Everything under "Autochk"
Everything under "Customer Experience Improvement Program"
Under "Disk Diagnostic" only the "Micro$lap-Windows-DiskDiagnosticDataCollector"
    Under "Maintenance" "WinSAT"
"Media Center" and click the "status" column, then select all non-disabled entries and disable them ... basically anything that has CEIP in the name or description is something that will communicate with Microhard so, my recommendation is to DELETE the task(s) & not just disable them. Since there's zero reason to keep them around if you're not participating in the CEIP, then delete the tasks, simple."

I'm on se7en Home & cannot access the feature; when I'm booted into Pro & Ullimate again I'll visit the possibility to disable / Turn Off Application Telemetry using Group Policy / GPEdit.msc found in this related article -->clik me<--

Companies once listened to their customers. I believe it started with Steve Jobs, the mindset of "the customer does not know what they want so we will tell them what they want."

People pour money into these companies and use their "free" services at breakneck speeds so maybe they are right about their customers.

Privacy is a real issue for me. I've never done anything wrong nor do I have anything to hide but I'm not totally stupid either...

Personally I do not worry about the few things I know that I've done wrong, I worry about the things I've done wrong I do not know about!

How some interpret behavior according to their own definition of what passes the "acceptable" litmus test can be problematic. And, allowing imbeciles with an agenda to define what a "good faith" obligation means, and/or take on a role of passing judgment regarding the behavior of others is also an extremely dangerous spot for any person to find their self... whether lawless or law-abiding, because we can't fix stupid. Things often get messed up even when rightfully empowered authorities make decisions of that nature. Imagine the opportunities for folly with some overzealous pencil-necked dweeb working for Micro$lop making those decisions.

I read this in the article.... "The concern with the new Diagnostic Tracking service is much the same as with Windows 10's tracking: it's not clear what's being sent, and there are concerns that it can't be readily controlled". Some say that they trust Microsoft. Are they nuts??? Everyone should now stop installing patches for Win7 and 8. You do not know what they let you install the next time.

    Here is some good news @Mr. Fox @TANWare @toughasnails @ajkula66 @octiceps

I asked on the MDL Forums if one uses O&O ShutUp 10 to disable telemetry, does it really do its job? did any of them use any tool to track if any data is being transmitted, and it seems if you don't use the Micro$h4ft search, you are safe, at least for the time being.....

    And the post are.....

I think this is incorrect. O&O does seem to allow Win 10 to send some information on using search - I can see it because Peerblock picks it up. But I am not getting any other hits on Peerblock at all, which suggests that the other blocks are working.

This is correct. It does not just do registry tweaks. It also disables some stuff via group policy and after rebooting and doing several tests, these policies ares still in place.
I use netmon 3.4 and I have no "SearchUI.exe" trying to connect to anything like the previous poster has.

This is probably just the `Bing ping` which it does whenever you start typing in the Start menu for example. Block SearchUI with a firewall rule and try again.

There's also another bit of proof that SU10's changes aren't "ignored by Windows". Get a tablet, change the setting for `location of the device`, and reboot. The orientation sensor will be disabled and auto rotation will no longer be available. Change the setting back, and it'll work again. So clearly Windows does not "ignore" the settings changes it makes

Yes, I use Process Lasso to block SearchUI, does the trick quite nicely

Is there any difference between Windows 8.1 Professional and Enterprise when it comes to logging/telemetry updates? Just realised my company's subscription does provide access to Enterprise. Might escape there for now. At least the Win 10 upgrade thing won't appear.

To post in like my other posting. My current hosts edit as I noticed did have on it Windows telemetry sites on its block list as well so before those even loads it gets blocked ahead of time.
