This is why they have to change policies. If not, with all the scrutiny as of late, it may spell the end of M$ as a consumer/business OS and no one will want to touch it with a 10 foot pole in mobile either. If they have to live off server, well we all know how they stand compared to Linux and with the possible advent of less and less Windows workstations that will only get worse over time.

anyways, this video should point why we all as consumers must be super paranoid with Microsoft's Windows 10.
I understand from a business perspective, Microsoft is too desperate to join that "i want to know what you do so i can sell that data" bandwagon that Google was so good at. Of course, whoever that smartass jackasses that a) submitted the idea "let's do it on the OS level like Google's Android" and b)approved the idea clearly need to be impaled and burnt on a stake alive.... However this is just way too underhanded.
I'm not sure why the EU hasn't even sued Microsoft on the telemetry 'spyware' updates for windows 10, 7, 8 and 8.1. -
Out of curiosity with W10 and O&O shutup I went to wifi in task manager and predictably I could see a small hit on traffic opening local folders and files, GRRRRRR..............

Well, for anyone who may be wondering about the following systems; I can guarantee that Clevo P651SG, HP Spectre x360 and Acer ES1-131 are all 100% safe to update to Windows 10. They won't implode or melt or disintegrate if you do.
Looks like select older systems are having real issues with 10. Not good. Not good at all.

This is primarily tied to all that UEFI. Windows can corrupt the table to the point the bios will not post. I do not think you will find a single hardware trashing on a non UEFI system. Samsung's had theirs trashed by 8.0 and even more so by 8.1.

And, now that I have started using it again, I remember why I don't care for Linux. It is definitely not a viable replacement for Windows if you're an overclocker or gamer... has a LONG, LONG way to go. CPU and GPU overclocking do not work well and SLI support (or the lack thereof) is a joke. But, still better than Windoze OS X, and actually a decent option for someone that doesn't have those interests and doesn't want to drink the telemetry and forced updates Kool-Aid. The hardest thing for me to deal with is I have hardly any idea how my system is behaving. I am used to being aware of everything at an instant and I hate not knowing everything constantly. I cannot find any OSD type of monitoring tools, but I'm still looking. I've had a gut full of Micro$haft and all of their garbage.

The one thing about Linux is you have to let go. I know that was the hardest thing for me too. Essentially just about anything can be monitored but allot still is in ASCII output. That and you actively have to go after the info,it is not just there for a quick peek.

One thing I do like about Linux is using a terminal. I cut my teeth on MS-DOS and have always liked working with a Windows command prompt as well, so I am right at home with that part. I just wish the commands were exactly the same on all distros. It took me a while to figure out that disabling X server on Mint 17 was mdm, not gdm or lightdm... took a lot of Googling. Not many people tinker with proprietary GeForce drivers. It seems most just use whatever the package manager and repositories provide, which are very old. It took a long time to figure out how to enable the secondary GPU in SLI and it still doesn't work all that well. I discovered after much Google searching that I had to enumerate the primary GPU in the xorg.conf file for the secondary GPU to be utilized by the OS (I guess it needs to be told which one is on the primary PCIe bus) and the Coolbits tweak only allows me to overclock the primary GPU for some reason. Also found a bug with NVIDIA drivers and ACPI. The system thinks it is running on battery and downclocks the GPUs unless I unplug the AC adapter and plug it back in with the NVIDIA X Server open before starting a game. I think ACPI in general might be a mess because my CPU never seems to hit the 4.3GHz static overclock that I have set in the BIOS. In Windows it stays pegged at 4.3GHz and in Linux it downclocks to 1.2GHz and doesn't seem to want to use Turbo-boost. Haven't figured that one out yet.
While games are still very playable, the framerate is probably half (or at least feels that way) but I cannot say for sure because I cannot see what it is. I have not figured out whether there is a framerate monitoring tool to verify what kind of FPS I am actually getting. Heaven Benchmark for Linux is like a slideshow. Heaven does have an OSD showing FPS and there it is less than half and it appears SLI does not work at all with Heaven on Linux. There's not even any OSD info for the second GPU, so it must not be detected or visible by the benchmark tool.
My wireless printer setup was a bit of a pain, too. I kept getting errors about a broken package, but it wasn't broken. I finally gave up trying to configure it as LPD/LPR queue (which I use in Windows) and on a whim tried IPP via DNS-SD and it instantly worked perfectly that way. Now I know what not to try next time, LOL.ajkula66 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

My biggest issue with this is that this most likely is their response to privacy issues so we should consider it the "Soft Sell". Essentially since now they can access your local files, including cookies, all stored passwords and site data even before the W10 install is there for their taking! By upgrading to W10 you give them access to not just everything you will be doing but have done already too.

Surely, the safest method of security is to NOT store any details such as passwords - that's just asking for trouble. As Benjamin Franklin said, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you don't want people to know your passwords etc, don't store them in the first place.
I'm not saying I'm a W10 fan by any means, but common sense needs to take a hand here and if people are concerned over things, they need to take the appropriate measures. -
I allow the browser to remember me all the time. Never had an issue with it before, so common sense is to eliminate whatever is causing me to have to worry about it now. That is W10, With W7 so long as I keep the system secure there is no issue. IMHO not using W10 is the appropriate measure. As I have stated before even though we can stop a viral load from affecting us do we then still want the virus to be there in the first place?

Matrix Leader was the one who made accusations and conclusions here first, so he is up to provide the proof that Microsoft has these informations of all people using Windows 10 without the store.
Really: Where should they get these informations from anyway, if not from the store? You are never even required to type in these informations, unless you use the store to buy something.
Note: The privacy statement covers everything and every Microsoft product, website and service altogether - and some of them need these informations to work. It is not Windows 10 specific. How 'bout we will entertain the notion of giving them benefit of doubt when they give us the option to completely disable Windows 10 Updates and telemetry and a one-click option to block the transmission of any data to Micro$haft? If they cannot do that for us, I'm afraid the best I can do is agree to not allow their digital filth malware OS to waste any drive space on my systems. I cannot say anything more about how I view their new approach to the business because even a hint of honesty about it would violate forum rules; but, rest assured that when I think of how we are getting shafted by Micro$haft I am thinking of extremely vulgar language and very inappropriate acts of graphic violence toward them.toughasnails, Keith and ajkula66 like this. -
So yeah...when you are out of any arguments, just call somebody else a Kool-Aid drinker and throw even more unproven, nonsensical conspiracy crap on the table...a really, really good way to argue^^ And very cute, I have to say.
You still have to explain me who they will get the data if you are not using the store...I am waiting for that one, it really interests me to see you come up with a new unproven conspiracy theory how they do it.
And RE the benefit of the doubt: Thats just how we do it here in Germany. One is not guilty, until the guilt is proven. Its a very fair and good approach.

If we disable everything in Windows 7 nothing will be going to Micro$lop. I have many things disabled in Group Policy and anyone that chooses to have fully autonomous control over updates does. You retain the option of managing your system in whatever manner you deem fitting and appropriate. If Windows 10 wasn't a piece of feces it would have a "one-click option" as a feature "in good faith" LOL. I never said Windows 7 had a one-click option, but it doesn't need to... bottom line is you have control that you lose with Windows 10.
The fact that they are forcing Windows Updates, loading up a government-grade EULA for Windows 10 and retro-downgrading Windows 7 and 8 to have Windows 10 Gestapo-grade telemetry suggests what you say is far from accurate. The problem is, because full disclosure is something they have already promised is not going to happen, none of us know for certain exactly what kind or how much data they collect now and the EULA means you "agree" they can more or less do whatever they feel like and you "agree" you cannot do anything to them legally for doing as they choose with it. Unfortunately, "in good faith" does not mean actually mean anything and it becomes obvious their definition of "good faith" is nothing of the sort the more of the EULA you read.
I'm not trusting or giving any benefit of doubt to the Redmond Mafia because their actions have proven they cannot be trusted. But, by all means, tip the glass and hope for the best. Good luck. What's your favorite flavor? Are you drinking the sugar-free version?transphasic likes this. -

It doesn´t matter, really. In Germany we have our own agencies BND / FIS as well as the BfV / FOPC who spy on us. No place on earth is safe from spying.
When you connect to the internet, you give up privacy, unless you are using something like Tor all the time. And when you do that, you already are on the list of the agencies as a potential target for more intense spying (well, because if you are using Tor...you have to hide something^^).
Using Windows 7 and thinking your data are safe is just giving in to a false sense of security - the same goes for using Linux. If the NSA/any other agency want you, they will get you. You don´t need Windows 10 for that.
There is no technical solution against spying. Only by disconnecting from everything (but, as I mentioned somewhere else: They could still read you letters of they want).
And believe it or not, Windows has still 85 % market share in Germany - so it seems I am not the only one "trusting" an American company. Linux helds a astonishing number of 2.5 %. Even more, for smartphones, American companies combined hold 99 % of the market here in Germany. -
While TOR isn't 100% foolproof - or anywhere close to it - it still remains a viable option for people who don't want every single site following their moves.
We've been down this road many a times. If NSA or any similar agency worldwide wants a particular piece of information, they're extremely likely to obtain it. With that being said, there's no reason for me to simply hand over data to MS, Google or Apple...
Now, let's see how this one plays out:
http://www.zdnet.com/article/why-microsoft-data-case-could-unravel-the-us-tech-industry/
And guess what: I'll be rooting for Microsoft... -
It's not the NSA and other government agencies that causes me the most concern. It's Micro$oft, their forced updates that are all but guaranteed to degrade performance and introduce random stability problems, and their OS-level access to tons more data than what I could generate in a lifetime while using a web browser or shopping online... There's not much to be excited about with that data. I seldom shop online and I visit the same half dozen or so web sites on a regular basis. Nothing to lose any sleep over by any means. What I do have a huge problem with besides the forced updates and lack of control over my own property is stuff like their keystroke logging, accessing, taking an inventory of, and collecting local files, etc.
I work for a large corporation and know employees are sometimes less than decent people. So, they collect stuff because they can and simply because they feel like it yet we're suppose to just trust that neither by design/intent nor through the uncontrollable acts of bad people that may work for them, nor the acts of any bad people that hack their servers where our information is collected, (again for no reason than they feel like they have some right to do so, and by accepting the EULA the sheeple said OK,) we should all feel warm and fuzzy, safe and as snug as a bug in rug? I don't think so.
I think believing in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny is more intelligent than trusting what they are doing to have a happy ending. If Windows 7 and 8 were really already doing everything that Windows 10 does in this regard, they would not need to be "updated" with new spyware features, we would not have the kind of EULA we have now, and they would not be taking away our ability to disable or otherwise control the situation. This should be a gigantic red flag to people that are actually paying attention and connecting the dots.hmscott, toughasnails, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
