. This is not correct (I see that everything works)... Now have this nonsense stopped... Yet another bug. When I attach an app / software to the Start menu so works not this always immediately. App/software can suddenly sit on the start menu after a while. Tragic.
Why can not I activate the screen saver as I did before? Customize menu is changed. Hideous. Ugly. -
Windows 10 still didn't solve the fundamental problem introduced in 8: two different sets of controls with different degrees of capability. In 8, there is tablet and desktop mode. However, MS tried to make the introduce tablet version of the "settings" page into the desktop mode as much as possible but did not make it default. The tablet version is simplified and stripped down so for under the hood changes you had to use the desktop or legacy settings control to do it (ie the classic control panel). In 10, I feel this problem has actually gotten even worse not better. The "Settings" app is now the default control for changing settings but it is very shallow in terms of capability. Many other settings change default to the simplified version as well. Control Panel isn't even a link on the start menu anymore, you have to search for it or use the Win-X to get to the more advanced settings.
I'm not against simplified menu as I have no interest in memorizing the onion-like settings control of old(layer and layers of windows/menu before getting the settings you want). Why can't MS produce 1 unified settings control mechanism that would have the simple stuff upfront and a link/tab/button for the more advanced stufff? Right now there is a simple one with almost nothing and another one with everything. Redundant and pointless and only confuses new and old users alike.Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution and Mr. Fox like this. -

They gave us everything BUT what we wanted...
A clown menu (which is what they call the Start Menu is back), Settings/Control Panel now are a nightmare to memorize where the setting you want is...WHY? just WHY? why not put everything in one place where it belongs...the Control Panel!!
No control over apps in the Windows Firewall, and the rest...well it's all in post 1 of this thread -
But, to be completely fair, they did listen to all of the feedback. However, they very conveniently forgot to tell us they wanted to know what we wanted so they could avoid doing what we wanted. Yet, we're supposed to trust them and believe their telemetry is innocuous and designed to make everything work better for us. Yeah, right, sure, you betcha.
And, for the record... all of this crap happened after recreational and "medicinal" use of silly cilantro became legal in Redmond. Coincidence? I don't think so. Why else would being stupid be so easy?
Just look at what the architects of Windoze OS X gave us and connect the dots...
- distorted perceptions
- impaired coordination
- difficulty in thinking and problem solving
- ongoing problems with learning and memory

More Horror, it just keeps getting worse...
"Scheduled Tasks" has a lot more tasks that send stuff to MSFT than previous versions of Windows. The Customer Experience ones are supposed to be opt-in but mine always are enabled even though I do not ever see any opt-in choices. Anyway, I have been disabling them for many years. With Win 10, I have disabled in the neighborhood of a dozen. The scariest one is under Windows Update called "sih". This is the description:
"This daily task launches the SIH client (server-initiated healing) to detect and fix system components that are vital to automatic updating of Windows and Microsoft software installed on the machine. This task can go online, evaluate applicability of healing actions, download necessary payloads to execute the actions, and execute healing actions."
I have seen Windows make changes to my system that were based on settings I had in my upgraded version of Win 10 that I subsequently wiped. The server logic thought it was repairing my install but in reality I had changed my mine on which setting I wanted to use. -
Concerning the AotS DX12 benchmark, I found an answer I think is the most satisfying thus far by "Redwoodz" on oc.net:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1569897/various-ashes-of-the-singularity-dx12-benchmarks/360
"This can all be summed by the statements that AMD has from the beginning of GCN developed an architecture that is DESIGNED to rely on a high number of draw calls. In order to combat the latency effects in DX11, they designed a new low level API to implement their strategy. They forced they implementation of DX12 by creating Mantle and demonstrating the clear future in API's which rely heavily in multi-threaded hardware. AMD didn't waste time focusing on DX11 because they knew what was coming, and could alleviate the draw call effect in DX11 with Mantle. There is nothing new to see here except the results of AMD's efforts being realized in DX12, period." -

NONE of the Windows Anti-Spy Tweaks work! DATA MINING CONFIRMED
MS did not hide that they will collect data from us because they stated so very clearly in Windows 10 License Agreement. However, why on earth would they include settings and registry entries in their OS that "supposed to" disable Telemetry if none of those tweaks work??? This DOES suggest they wanted to fool us! Telemetry is HARD-CODED into Windows 10 OS and there is no way to disable it properly within the OS. You can use router if it has that feature, but that is it... All these tweaks to disable anti-spying do absolutely nothing!

As old and tired as I am, I'll just have to make CentOS work for me on *all* levels, sooner than later. That much is clear.

Same here, have a 1TB SSD on order and it will go dedicated to Mint 17.2, I will continue for now using 7.0 on the 480GB SSD for production I can't yet get Linux to do. Again I had ordered the SSD for setting up a triple boot but that idea is dead now.

I realy hate Windows Automatic Maintenance in Win 10 more and more. In my experience Automatic Maintenance runs at different times. It is randomized and many times runs when I am using my computer
.
The four tasks found in old Windows 8.1 TaskScheduler (Idle Maintenance, Maintenance Configurator, Manual Maintenance, and Regular Maintenance) are no longer present in Windows 10. In Windows 8.1 could I better control when Automatic Maintenance would actually run.
I have looked for the Maintenance task in the Task Scheduler under the Active Tasks list, and I cannot find it.
For some reason Microsoft has chosen to really hide this new task. Does anyone know how to unhide the Maintenance Activator task? How inept can Microsoft be? Everything gets more and more destroyed in each new OS they make. Are the software developers to Microsoft totally idiots
?

Its kinda explains why that Windows 10 is the last version of windows which means theres no Windows 11 nor 12 but they gonna keep releasing updates for it like a service pack. Microsoft is really trying force everyones future PCs to have Windows 10 so they can spy on everyones PC and devices which is pretty damn scary. I never heard of any Windows OS that was this bad since Windows ME and ofc the average consumer dont know the real truth about Windows 10.
I know this article is a few months old but it does explains everything and they're taking spying on a whole different level and we cant disable it, I just hope manufacturers will still be selling their new systems with a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 OS in the future.Mr. Fox likes this. -

Although some of these issues have some sort of workaround, it really is a shame MS can't make a new OS with improvements over some things without messing others. I, myself, am enjoying it for the most part, though I've got to admit there are a few of those issues that really make mad!

We are not supposed to cross-post, but the urgency of the message here really needs to be heard by everyone. This is very bad stuff, guys. Below is what I said where it was posted in Windows 10 thread. Everyone should understand that they are agreeing to have their home, office, car, wherever and whenever their computer is turned on, bugged and monitored, transmitted to someone else for them to interpret in whatever manner they deem appropriate. Nice!

One thing I disagree is, at least here, we do care about the general public. We are though just tapping the surface of why this is bad. More and more it will eventually come out, but will it be too late?
Edit; Hate to spread FUD but if you have a W10 computer on while talking to your lawyer you have essentially invited a third party so does this invalidate privileged conversation? It is not like using a private recorder as the audio is broadcast too and accessible by multiple other third parties. This point could be brought up in a court case.Last edited: Aug 24, 2015Spartan@HIDevolution and Mr. Fox like this. -

I was actually using Windows 10 for a few days BTW and turned off all telemetry/tracking via O&O ShutUp 10 but there was a little angel called Angel Fox on my right shoulder always whispering to me, what the heck are you doing? shooting yourself in the foot? You are compromising your life, privacy, etc...

IMHO Microsoft has done a huge step towards facebook-ish collecting all kind of data. And many (just look at the update quota, millions per hour and counting) people just give away their data, as they already do with many other "social networks"; without loosing a single thought to it. Because basically Win10 is just not worth a penny, MS knows no one will buy it and so they're giving it away for free, seemingly collect an endless amount of user data and further strengthen their market position by making sure everyone will continue using Windows
From my point of view, all this Windows 10 business is highly suspicious and if even a small amount of the stuff from above posted links is true, I am wondering why no country bans Windows 10 for espionage. I could argument further but that would lead to the "De-americanizing the world" thread.
Call me paranoid, but I don't trust social networks, Skype, Whatsapp and many other "helpers"... now I can add Windows 10 to my list. My android device is rooted, using another kernel, app control etc.
Just because I read the (valid) argument that many people say they care about privacy but still use all kinds of privacy-invading everyday aps and social networks. Again this would lead to Off-Topic, so nothing further on this here.
I though that since XP Microsoft has learnt a bit, but they just didn't. In this exciting atmosphere with NSA, Snowden and many other things going on they place such a suspicious OS for free. And it works just fine:

Matrix Leader you are so dead on right. Windows update really got on my nerves this morning when my computer work me up in the middle of the night installing the latest updates. The updates installed fine but then after it decided to reinstall the POS Realtek audio driver I hid even after disabling driver updates Device installation settings and running there tool to hide it. I was using the HD audio driver before for weeks with little problems only once did the sound crap out but otherwise the sound quality was excellent.
Well I wasted a good 2 hours trying to disable this POS Realtek driver. Finally I fixed it by using the tool to hide it again. I now know that whenever windows decides it has a better crappy driver like Realtek to push it will install it no matter what. It does not give a crap if I am in the middle of listing to music or recording and mastering something. I am getting tired of this crap and if there is no way to disable this driver update crap by Octobers big update I am switching over to a Mac.
Also the tech sites as you said are nothing but a bunch of paid Microsoft shills. They all praise Windows 10 like it is the coming of Christ. This is when I searched if OSX is better than Windows 10.steberg, Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution and 1 other person like this. -

You see, for example, your motherboard or laptop manufacturer has a specific Realtek driver which supports the enhancements for your exact soundcard, like for example, the sound effects, some use SoundMAXXX and some use other technologies like Dolby Digital or whatever....
Then the Windows update driver comes, it's just a generic Realtek driver without the manufacturer enhancements specific to your computer / hardware. that's where it gets messy.
I cannot count the number of posts saying oh, my touchpad stopped working after Windows updates installed a new driver.tonyr6 likes this. -

TBH I like even the minimal changes to W10. The disk optimize and trim of my drives is awesome. The disk transfer is alright too but not a deal maker. I could care less about DX12 other than some synthetics once it comes in.
I am trying it once more on the Samsung. But with the idea it is a consumption only OS and I will dual boot Linux as ext4 won't be seen by default. My video encoding etc will be handled by my P79 and Win7. I could easily see myself dropping out again though. -
Funny thing is too, the EULA has language that even if they screw up your privacy rights you can not even sue them. So if there is no real privacy issue why does M$ feel they need to protect themselves?
