system level EQ? do you mean audio controlling software? On my Clevos I just used the Sound Blaster Xi-Fi and on the MSI I use Nahimic

Speaking of audio, is there anyway to not use the Intel SST drivers? From what I've read, they don't offer anything I could even fake an interest in, and they've been causing problems (clicking/popping noise) with power management conflict with the realtek drivers - of course Acer doesn't seem to want to admit this is an issue and just keeps telling people to RMA their machines. If I could just use the bog standard Realtek HD, alot of problems could be solved

@Phoenix: Maybe @Georgel asked about EQ such as Music, Movies, Default etc... is the sound quality better than Sound Blaster?
Maybe EQ like DFX audio enhancer might do the trick.

    Yes!

I'm looking for a system-wide EQ that applies to Youtube and everything that is better than X-Fi

This is because I want one that works with an external USB Soundcard :D

Thank you for explaining it for me!

    Yes.

Didn't do much for me. What I need is a good sounding EQ that works at system level

some of my headphones need this, and using an external USB DAC will disable any Clevo X-fi thingies so I need something else for this

Hey @pheonix , I followed your guide and think I've lost Windows Hello on the clean install. I've set-up the PIN which is needed and have a fully up to date Tobii core software which works perfect for everything else. Problem is I don't even see the "Face" option available in Sign-In options. Could this be something that I disabled / uninstalled accidentally during your guide (which wasn't labelled Face Authentication)? If so is there anyway to get it back? I know the hardware is good because for a while I had another windows install and it worked fine on that.

hi matey, did you run O&O ShutUp 10 by any chance? if you did, make sure you uncheck the option which says "Allow Biometrics"

the only other place to disable Windows Hello :hi: is in the Group Policy Editor

    PS: Who is Tobiii? [IMG]

Cats are the major reason I am wary of using HDDs. They may play with the cable, lay on the HDD itself while it is copying valuable data, or even throw it off height. \=

Microsoft Windows WannaCrypt Patches - See Post #1
WannaCrypt Emergency Patch for pre-Windows 10 computers targeted
    http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4012598

(Microsoft) Customer Guidance for WannaCrypt attacks

    MSRC Team May 12, 2017
    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msrc/2017/05/12/customer-guidance-for-wannacrypt-attacks/
"Customers running Windows 10 were not targeted by the attack today", the same SMB Patches were issued for Windows 10 computers.
Today many of our customers around the world and the critical systems they depend on were victims of malicious “WannaCrypt” software. Seeing businesses and individuals affected by cyberattacks, such as the ones reported today, was painful. Microsoft worked throughout the day to ensure we understood the attack and were taking all possible actions to protect our customers. This blog spells out the steps every individual and business should take to stay protected. Additionally, we are taking the highly unusual step of providing a security update for all customers to protect Windows platforms that are in custom support only, including Windows XP, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2003. Customers running Windows 10 were not targeted by the attack today.

    Details are below.
    • In March, we released a security update which addresses the vulnerability that these attacks are exploiting. Those who have Windows Update enabled are protected against attacks on this vulnerability. For those organizations who have not yet applied the security update, we suggest you immediately deploy Microsoft Security Bulletin MS17-010.
    • For customers using Windows Defender, we released an update earlier today which detects this threat as Ransom:Win32/WannaCrypt. As an additional “defense-in-depth” measure, keep up-to-date anti-malware software installed on your machines. Customers running anti-malware software from any number of security companies can confirm with their provider, that they are protected.
    • This attack type may evolve over time, so any additional defense-in-depth strategies will provide additional protections. (For example, to further protect against SMBv1 attacks, customers should consider blocking legacy protocols on their networks).
We also know that some of our customers are running versions of Windows that no longer receive mainstream support. That means those customers will not have received the above mentioned Security Update released in March. Given the potential impact to customers and their businesses, we made the decision to make the Security Update for platforms in custom support only, Windows XP, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2003, broadly available for download (see links below).

Customers who are running supported versions of the operating system (Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016) will have received the security update MS17-010 in March. If customers have automatic updates enabled or have installed the update, they are protected. For other customers, we encourage them to install the update as soon as possible.

This decision was made based on an assessment of this situation, with the principle of protecting our customer ecosystem overall, firmly in mind.

Some of the observed attacks use common phishing tactics including malicious attachments. Customers should use vigilance when opening documents from untrusted or unknown sources. For Office 365 customers we are continually monitoring and updating to protect against these kinds of threats including Ransom:Win32/WannaCrypt. More information on the malware itself is available from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center on the Windows Security blog. For those new to the Microsoft Malware Protection Center, this is a technical discussion focused on providing the IT Security Professional with information to help further protect systems.

We are working with customers to provide additional assistance as this situation evolves, and will update this blog with details as appropriate.

    Summary
This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. The most severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if an attacker sends specially crafted messages to a Microsoft Server Message Block 1.0 (SMBv1) server.
To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS17-010.

Who is to blame for the massive ransomware attack? - Inside Story

You could download the Windows 10 specific or cumulative patch rollup (1GB!!), or run Windows Update and let it "catch you up".

With Windows 10 forced updates on you should have been updated auto-forceably March 14th - so it's probably already done :)

Maybe verify you have the specific patch for your branch of Windows 10 installed:

    nope, I don't do PMs.

all questions must be discussed in the forum, that helps others as well who may or not have the same concern you are wanting to ask about.

I'm sick and tired of green team. Sure they give best performance than AMD and looking at this, I will switch to AMD because of the new ground up UI design is easier than NV classic win 2000 style Control Panel.

The problem is the Mobile graphics. AMD can't compete and "if" they did, You are screwed with the next refresh. At least if you want max Oc + performance and can upgrade your graphics. I'm pretty sure they pull out new rebranded graphics in a row as before. Yeah, you can hope for a change but I doubt it. Desktops is another ballgame.

I think you may be stuck in the mindset of the "old" AMD, and AMD is now trying to pull themselves out of that pit they've been in :)

I think we need to give them a chance to show us what they have for mobile before we give up.

Besides, Nvidia has been trying to kill MXM upgradable GPU's anyway, so you can't say you can count on those being upgradeable either - in fact you personally can't upgrade in any meaningful way, and neither will the latest MXM GPU's be upgraded either - replaced, maybe, but certainly not upgraded.

For now I am excited to see what AMD has for mobile :)

Depending on your laptop, you might not even need to install any drivers. Just the proprietary software crap from the OEM that is unique to the brand. Otherwise, almost all of the drivers already have native support. Other than ditching the Micro$lop version of the GeFarts driver, you may only have one or two drivers that need to be installed. On the Tornado F5/16L-G-1080 I only had to install the Thunderbolt driver and replace the GeFarts driver with a better one, then I was done.

    @Phoenix

I almost forgot, should I install the Visual C++ Runtime Installer (All-In-One) v54 before installing the drivers?

"Before installing drivers on a computer, as soon as you're done with the format, it is advisable to install all the Microsoft Visual C++ libraries to ensure the drivers that depend on it are working properly. "

not a must but it's a good idea to do so to ensure you have all the necessary Visual C++ Libraries which some drivers or programs depend on. Now most drivers or programs do install them as well if they detect they weren't installed but I remember a few months back, if you didn't have the Visual C++ 2013 installed the Logitech Mouse Driver would fail to launch since it is missing and it didn't install it automatically with the driver.

    Right.

I also noticed that you integrated 2 standalone updates that ends in .cab, so I searched those in http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com and found .msu file instead.

I want to integrate the latest update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4025342 but it ends in .msu too so do I need to convert that to .cab file or something?

Have you seen the list of bloatware MSI push for their laptops? + 20
And how many is useful? Zero? Yeah, zero!!

Zero? I gotta disagree with you there bruh...I find this utilities to be very useful:

SteelSeries Engine 3 - I use it to control the keyboard macro and backlit of my GT80, Rival 300 colorshift, Siberia headset, and other Steelseries peripherals

Nahimic - Switching between different sound profiles with ease

System Control Manager (SCM) - SCM is a built-in system control tool to manage device settings by using Fn hotkeys and the SCM control panel. It also provides the ECO engine setup, so without it Fn key will not function

MSI True Color - With the preset color mode settings allow the user to select the ideal color setting for different usage scenarios, and the Anti Blue preset is very useful for people like me who can't stare at the monitor for too long.

Dragon Center - All in one software (System monitoring, Shift mode (overclocking tool), Fan control, RGB control, etc.)

Silent Option - Another standalone fan control application

Afterburner - You already know its use

So not everything is useless, and I don't consider them bloatware either.

There are a total of 10 software utilities that you can download per model, so I'm not sure which other 10 that you're talking about.
