Don't forget my favorite, MSI BurnRecovery - the USB 3.0 bootable recovery creation tool.
If you uninstall MSI BurnRecovery, you can't get it back - nowhere to download it from, and only if you used it can you then restore it from that bootable recovery tool to your laptop.
There's gotta be something else we are forgetting...
For the most part MSI has kept these tools clean from interference with user fun, except for the time they defaulted to enabling these X-cache features in Dragon Gaming Center, but you could toggle both of those off, and now they ship defaulted off.
DGC can sometimes interfere with manual XTU settings, so that's why I uninstall and manually set OC with XTU and MSI AB + RTSS.
After I know how fast my fans are going based on usage level and their sound level, I don't need to look at a DGC fan speed meter to know how fast my fans are running.
The only real crap is that bundled AV or Firewall from Norton or McAffe, but those uninstall clean *with* a clean uninstall tool![]()

@Phoenix I get an error during update integration http://prntscr.com/fyykfw

thought the fresh installation went well until i restarted and the system started giving me boot manager errors (0xc0000454):
\EFI\MICROSOFT\BOOT\BCD
The boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors.
any fixes? always happens on its first boot, then it restarts and boots into windows normally. I might've screwed with the bios. -

If that didn't work, then try MBR Partition Scheme for UEFI
Sometimes if the USB Disk is also initialized as GPT, then Windows skips creating the MSR partition required for the GPT Disk thinking it's already there as it mistakes it for the one on the USB Flash Disk itself, so selecting MBR Partition Scheme for UEFI for the USB Disk creation prevents that from happening.Vasudev likes this. -

I would also suggest using the diskpart/clean command as shown in the guide in the first stepsVasudev likes this. -
Press F2 or ESC key before you see ROG on screen to get into BIOS.

yes i would turn the secure boot off and fast boot on during the installation process, but that error would persist.
I also followed the guide and cleared the disk through cmd prior to partitioning it. Currently I have SMART and secure turned off and it seems to work. Not the fix I wanted but here is where I got it from https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthre...Failure-on-GL502VS/page10&p=648888#post648888
very odd but many problems I was facing matches this users experience. Making these adjustments stopped the errors.
"The more I mess with this the more I think it is a BIOS bug dealing with the power cycling on reboot. My guess is that on reboots the BIOS power cycles to quickly and causes the system to not read the MVMe drive. That is why a cold power down can reacquire the drive. This could be the result of larger capacitors on these OEM Samsung drives, but this is all just a guess. At any rate I found a workaround that has been stable for me. (below)
Ok in BIOS under advanced changing the Smart self test setting to DISABLE. This allowed the update AE>CE install to complete with no BCD fails.
Another BIOS change I made was to turn off secure boot because it was preventing me from entering recovery environment (safe mode)
So with both of these settings changed in the BIOS I am back on the stock NVMe drive and all appears stable with no reboot BCD errors.
Finally!"

tried reenabling smart and on its restart boot, encountered the same issue unfortunately. I do seem to be using ahci.

It's not BGA 980M, it's currerntly 1,139.1 MHz, can't remember the stock, probably because of Svet Unlocked vBIOS. -

Yes its MXM...MSI made it that way for a promise of future GPU upgrade but NOPE, still useless despite being MXM.
Anyway, I can OC to 540 MHz but not sure how safe it is.Last edited: Jul 26, 2017 -
I can hardly go upwards of 130MHz on core and 200MHz on GPU memory when OC'ed. -
-
@Vasudev
With unlocked vBIOS I get the following benefits:
* unlocked gpu core OC limit of +135 when OCing on the fly, now its +540
* optimizing power levels to reduce the power throttling as much as possible by vbios level
* enable power control on the fly.
* extend voltage limits
* over-voltage adjustable on the fly
* extend throttling of the temp limits to avoid early GPU core throttling because of the temp.
* apply other performance optimizations to able to reach high clocks when OCing.
* enable temp adjustments on the fly
* apply minor factory OC
* disable non High performance P-States exclude idle one to maximize the results.Vasudev likes this. -

@Phoenix , If i use the MSMG Toolkit to modify the WIndows 10 ISO and remove the bloatware, does that cover the procedures and steps that you have posted on this thread and this one ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10-tweaks-and-fixes-index-post-1.779394/) ??

You need to note what you are removing from the ISO and tweak accordingly.
Example, if you removed Windows Defender from the ISO using the MSMG Tool, then there is no point in doing the how to disable Windows Defender tweak/guide since it's not even there.
Another Example, if you removed all the Windows Store Apps or at least the Photos app from the Windows Store, then you don't need to do the first tweak in that guide which helps you restore the old Windows Photo Viewer because it will be your default photo viewer since Windows didn't even detect that the Photos app was installed in the first place.
Final Example, if you removed Cortana from the ISO, then you don't need to worry about disabling Cortana since it's not there. Mind you, you will hear her talk in the initial setup wizard screen but don't worry, she's not there that's just how the setup wizard is.

Thanks a lot, I will do my best to be as smart as @Phoenix
PS: I have noticed in the installation video that you had the OEM info for the MSI, and was wondering if there is a place where I can get it for my Alienware 17 R3 -

The OEMer (OEM Info Editor) 1.0.0.97
and here are the icons and an old INF of my old Alienware 18, edit the .reg and merge it with the registry after moving the logo that you want (and rename it if necessary) to location mentioned in the reg file:

Just got new laptop with Win10 Pro preinstalled. Using CCleaner which programs are the Microsoft store apps? I don't want to delete something I need. It's hard to tell.

I think I figured out what ones to delete for the most part. 2 or 3 I will give a try and see how I like them. I had to uninstall 13 different language versions of Office 365. Grrrr... Thank god for Revo uninstaller and CCleaner.
