    Don't forget my favorite, MSI BurnRecovery - the USB 3.0 bootable recovery creation tool.

    If you uninstall MSI BurnRecovery, you can't get it back - nowhere to download it from, and only if you used it can you then restore it from that bootable recovery tool to your laptop.

    There's gotta be something else we are forgetting...

    For the most part MSI has kept these tools clean from interference with user fun, except for the time they defaulted to enabling these X-cache features in Dragon Gaming Center, but you could toggle both of those off, and now they ship defaulted off.

    DGC can sometimes interfere with manual XTU settings, so that's why I uninstall and manually set OC with XTU and MSI AB + RTSS.

    After I know how fast my fans are going based on usage level and their sound level, I don't need to look at a DGC fan speed meter to know how fast my fans are running.

    The only real crap is that bundled AV or Firewall from Norton or McAffe, but those uninstall clean *with* a clean uninstall tool :)

    NTLite seems to be a handy tool to speed up the process of tweaking and deleting unnecessary crap out of Windoze X.

    thought the fresh installation went well until i restarted and the system started giving me boot manager errors (0xc0000454):
    \EFI\MICROSOFT\BOOT\BCD

    The boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors.

    any fixes? always happens on its first boot, then it restarts and boots into windows normally. I might've screwed with the bios.

    Try burning the ISO using RUFUS using these settings:

    http://i.imgur.com/j6zfq26.png

    If that didn't work, then try MBR Partition Scheme for UEFI

    Sometimes if the USB Disk is also initialized as GPT, then Windows skips creating the MSR partition required for the GPT Disk thinking it's already there as it mistakes it for the one on the USB Flash Disk itself, so selecting MBR Partition Scheme for UEFI for the USB Disk creation prevents that from happening.

    So I've tried installing the OS after using these changes but am still running into the problem. Seems to be an issue with the creators update if I'm not mistaken. Tried bootrec rebuilds too. Running into this error is very inconsistent too, sometimes it boots up just fine. I guess I'll have to live with it but this vexes me

    Windows on UEFI needs separate EFI parttion ESP where bootloader resides. Did you create custom partitions or did you let OS create required partitions?

    I believed I just allowed the Installer create the partitions. I fixed this issue by disabling smart boot and secure boot. what am i giving up by disabling these? My laptop is the asus gl502vs

    never had this issue, has nothing to do with the Creators Update. Are you sure you are in FULL UEFI mode in your BIOS and now UEFI with CSM? Also, when booting off the USB Stick, there is a button on your keyboard depending on the laptop make that brings up the boot options, make sure that when you do get that option, if you have 2 choices for booting off the USB stick, one which has a preceding UEFI text and one with just the name of the USB stick, that you boot off the option which says UEFI before it.

    I would also suggest using the diskpart/clean command as shown in the guide in the first steps

    yes i would turn the secure boot off and fast boot on during the installation process, but that error would persist.

    I also followed the guide and cleared the disk through cmd prior to partitioning it. Currently I have SMART and secure turned off and it seems to work. Not the fix I wanted but here is where I got it from https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthre...Failure-on-GL502VS/page10&p=648888#post648888

    very odd but many problems I was facing matches this users experience. Making these adjustments stopped the errors.

    "The more I mess with this the more I think it is a BIOS bug dealing with the power cycling on reboot. My guess is that on reboots the BIOS power cycles to quickly and causes the system to not read the MVMe drive. That is why a cold power down can reacquire the drive. This could be the result of larger capacitors on these OEM Samsung drives, but this is all just a guess. At any rate I found a workaround that has been stable for me. (below)

    Ok in BIOS under advanced changing the Smart self test setting to DISABLE. This allowed the update AE>CE install to complete with no BCD fails.

    Another BIOS change I made was to turn off secure boot because it was preventing me from entering recovery environment (safe mode)

    So with both of these settings changed in the BIOS I am back on the stock NVMe drive and all appears stable with no reboot BCD errors.
    Finally!"

    Did you install W10 on AHCI or RAID mode? Check the hashes of your downloaded W10 Creators Update here https://tb.rg-adguard.net/index.php
    Use HashTab or Hashmyfiles to get hashes.

    Cleaning all the nonsense in Windows using MSMG Toolkit, tweaking the registry, disabling all the crap using O&O SHUTUP10 can really make the difference.

    Killed my BGA AW completely by OC'ing. Is your 980M BGA too? My max FPS was 77. Did you OC your GPU too?

    Does that mean I have low FPS?

    It's not BGA 980M, it's currerntly 1,139.1 MHz, can't remember the stock, probably because of Svet Unlocked vBIOS.

    Oh, you almost got me thinking that I have low FPS and that I have faulty/damaged GPU. :vbtongue:

    Yes its MXM...MSI made it that way for a promise of future GPU upgrade but NOPE, still useless despite being MXM.

    Anyway, I can OC to 540 MHz but not sure how safe it is.

    Which MSI model are you using? I never heard about it. Part BGA part MXM. @Papusan can OEM's do it like that, Partial BGA and MXM?
    I can hardly go upwards of 130MHz on core and 200MHz on GPU memory when OC'ed.

    MSI GT80S Titan...

    [IMG]

    Like I said before...I flashed and unlocked vBIOS.

    I can also adjust power and temp limit.

    @Vasudev

    BGA CPU + MXM GPU = HYBRID

    But most people including @Papusan still consider it as BGA FILTH! [IMG]

    @Vasudev

    With unlocked vBIOS I get the following benefits:

    * unlocked gpu core OC limit of +135 when OCing on the fly, now its +540
    * optimizing power levels to reduce the power throttling as much as possible by vbios level
    * enable power control on the fly.
    * extend voltage limits
    * over-voltage adjustable on the fly
    * extend throttling of the temp limits to avoid early GPU core throttling because of the temp.
    * apply other performance optimizations to able to reach high clocks when OCing.
    * enable temp adjustments on the fly
    * apply minor factory OC
    * disable non High performance P-States exclude idle one to maximize the results.

    Your GPU is a different beast MXM allows more OC levels than BGA. BTW, my ASIC quality is 63%, so my best bet is to water cool the PC or move to @Papusan 's house as a Paying guest just for OC'ing and gaming.

    Ambient temp is 31° C, my CPU (OC'ed @41x) temp is 80° C and my GPU (1,139.5 MHz) is 88° C...pretty high. I'm surprised that it didn't throttle.

    No.

    You need to note what you are removing from the ISO and tweak accordingly.

    Example, if you removed Windows Defender from the ISO using the MSMG Tool, then there is no point in doing the how to disable Windows Defender tweak/guide since it's not even there.

    Another Example, if you removed all the Windows Store Apps or at least the Photos app from the Windows Store, then you don't need to do the first tweak in that guide which helps you restore the old Windows Photo Viewer because it will be your default photo viewer since Windows didn't even detect that the Photos app was installed in the first place.

    Final Example, if you removed Cortana from the ISO, then you don't need to worry about disabling Cortana since it's not there. Mind you, you will hear her talk in the initial setup wizard screen but don't worry, she's not there that's just how the setup wizard is.

    Be smart....be like Phoenix...

    Make your own:
    The OEMer (OEM Info Editor) 1.0.0.97

    and here are the icons and an old INF of my old Alienware 18, edit the .reg and merge it with the registry after moving the logo that you want (and rename it if necessary) to location mentioned in the reg file:

    Disabling some of MSI software, some of you may call it Bloatware (MSI True Color, SCM, Steelseries Engine - eats 24 MB of memory) produced amazing results.

    I don't think 24MB of RAM usage is a bloat, at the same time if its eating 20% CPU then its bloatware.

    Everything the ODM's prefers put on your machine is Bloat!! 1-5-10 or 200MB doesn't matter.

    Even whilst gaming my RAM consumption is under 6GB, for web browsing its under 4GB. After RAM cleanup, W10 just uses 1.6GB out of 16GB. Maximum tweaked OS w/ bloatware like Cortana and UWP apps. I'm thinking of installing Policy Plus Alpha version you recommended in Phoenix Updates page.
