Oh yes it does. I am running Enterprise on both of my Clevos. And, all of the worthless garbage apps are there, too. And, Cortana the digi-slut, too. But I removed it all surgically from the WIM file. DOA, LOL. Enterprise does give you control that Pro and Home do not, but it's still just as cancerous when left to its own devices.
Disabling the trash is better than nothing, but I want CPU clock cycle sucking garbage gone. I was even able to remove the notorious Skype feces that has deep hooks in the OS.Last edited: Jul 12, 2016Ashtrix, Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Even even if you send me a 1000 USD donation right now via PayPal I won't ever use, try, or even open theMicro$haft App Store to see what it has. I've tried it on Windows 8 and almost threw up when I saw the garbage low quality apps it has.
In fact, the first step I take after installing Windows 10 is to uninstall every single metro app using CCleaner and replace the joke of a calculator that comes with Windows 10 with the old classical calculator.Last edited: Jul 12, 2016Ashtrix, toughasnails, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

I don't think you even have to go through all the 'upgrade' process anymore. I believe you can just do a fresh install of win10 on a spare drive, decline the registration during install, and then after installed, register using your win7/8 key and that machine will be auth'd for win10 should you decide to install it in the future. (assuming you want to get your free win10 key before the offer is over).
I'll know if this works soon as I plan to try it with my desktop system.Ionising_Radiation likes this. -
Windows 365, LOL! I and many others predicted this would happen with Windows after they got away with slowly bleeding out their customers that have been "renting" Office365. Many of the Windows 10 Kool-Aid drinkers argued vehemently that it would never happen. Once Micro$loth figured out they could get away with milking the wallets of a large number of customers forever and ever to keep a steady flow of cash rolling in, I think the writing was on the wall. It's like all of the other greed-motivated shenanigans that get pulled... only because enough customers are willing to allow them to get away with it. It makes about as much sense as paying three to five times the value of a broadband modem in monthly rent to an ISP over the course of a two year contract then starting over when you switch ISPs. Just buying one outright from the local electronics store would amount to a fraction of the cost and once it's paid for, it's paid for... forever or for as long as it lasts, whichever comes first.Last edited: Jul 13, 2016toughasnails and inm8#2 like this.

France: Windows 10 collects 'excessive personal data', issues Microsoft with formal warning
By Mark Wilson
Published 16 hours ago
http://betanews.com/2016/07/20/windows-10-excessive-data-collection-france/
"After accusations that Windows 10 collects too much data about users, France's National Data Protection Commission (CNIL) has order Microsoft to comply with the French Data Protection Act within three months. The company has been ordered to "stop collecting excessive data and tracking browsing by users without their consent".
=> Apparently the French government does't see the Microsoft Windows 10 EULA as providing consent to collect users private data, even though the Windows 10 explicitly says the user is giving Microsoft the right to do so.
==> I would file this action as "protecting the right's of French citizens where such right's can not be contractually obligated or given away"
In addition to this, the chair of CNIL has notified Microsoft that it needs to take "satisfactory measures to ensure the security and confidentiality of user data". The notice comes after numerous complaints about Windows 10, and a series of investigations by French authorities which revealed a number of failings on Microsoft's part.
Microsoft is accused of not only gathering excessive data about users, but also irrelevant data. The CNIL points to Windows 10's telemetry service which gathers information about the apps users have installed and how long each is used for. The complaint is that "these data are not necessary for the operation of the service"."Last edited: Jul 21, 2016 -
Has anyone been doing ongoing monitoring of network traffic in/out of their Windows 10 machines?
Comment here is interesting:
" psycros Sandeman21 • 2 hours ago
I think it has more to do with the sheer volume of data being transmitted, which has steadily increased with every new build of Windows 10.
I was forced to stop experimenting with it because it was blowing through around a gigabyte of data per day.
That's excessive by any measure, especially when you consider these were fresh installs with no Internet-connected applications running at all. I had disabled every possible bit of telemetry that we know about.
Clearly there's a lot more we don't know about, and apparently it includes your entire browsing history in real time, the entire directory tree of all your drives updated every couple of days and a lot more according to some of the white hats who've looked into it.
A lot it seems to be encrypted at least, but knowing that Microsoft could be digging through my files isn't much more reassuring than the idea of some random hacker doing it.
If Microsoft wants to be Google their going to have to be a heck of lot more efficient - I don't have anywhere near 30gb of data to waste each month. Their also going to have be a lot less snoopy, because right now they've got even Google beat in that department."
Maybe he is one of the few that looked when MS was actively interested in what he had?
I had thought that MS might not be always actively transferring on all Windows 10 machines, just the ones that sent interesting summary reports daily, but maybe it is now that noone is looking?
From:
Microsoft responds to allegations that Windows 10 collects 'excessive personal data'
http://betanews.com/2016/07/21/microsoft-response-cnil/
"Microsoft has now responded, saying it is happy to work with the CNIL to work towards an acceptable solution. Interestingly, while not denying the allegations set against it, the company does nothing to defend the amount of data collected by Windows 10, and also fails to address the privacy concerns it raises."Raiderman and toughasnails like this. -
Does anyone know how long the windows 10 install "trial" lasts? On windows 7 you could install it un-activated for a month and then reset it up to 5 more times / months.
-
It's not a trial, it's a permanent upgrade to Windows 10. You can run Windows 7/8.1 on it, but MS still keeps the Windows 10 license for that hardware as a permanent registration.
If you upgrade to Windows 10, it uses your Windows 7/8.1 license, hardware details, and entered personal details, to create a uniquely identifiable database entry in the Microsoft Servers to register your "free" Windows 10 license, in perpetuity.
That database entry can't be removed by user request, and it isn't removed by downgrading back to Windows 7/8.1, the status of your OS on that hardware is kept as Windows 10.
The EULA you agreed to to allow MS to spy on that hardware is kept active as well. -
The EULA is kept active but should only be enforceable while on the hardware and using the W10 software. if you are using the older OS version then the EULA for that version of software is enforceable. theoretically there though may be in a dual boot situation where the older OS reports activity locally that then W10 reports on, that is not covered/protected.
-
It's a grey area that I would rather not enter into interaction with for now, I will join in when the construction is done and the legal matters are resolved, maybe
-
Remember too W10 could be looking at the other systems on your LAN as well.

That's why I run client computers on a segregated LAN behind another firewall (3 total), with no visibility between the LAN's, not even the broadcast domain.
-
That's not what I was asking. For example, if you install win7 with no product key you are running in a sort of trial mode which gives you 30 days to "test" the OS before it becomes handicapped. You can Rearm it up to 5 more times giving you 6 months in the "test" mode. I'm wondering how long you can do this with a win10 install when win10 is clean installed without a product key. One website I read was claiming you can run win10 indefinitely but any customization is not allowed.hmscott likes this.

It been like since Vista.
Kind of the same for the Server version though you have to enter a key unless you mod it or use the VL version which just a simple 1 file change.
It just have a minor cosmetic restriction once you go past the grace period.
The difference from 8 and 10 from vista and 7 is the grace period is 1 day instead of 30 days.
You can go indefinitely without activation. And can activate at any Time.
Only features lost is on demand update for Windows Defender,
Ability to use Windows Update to install optional components (Needs verifying - though you can just manually install them)
Apply themes (Windows 7 and older just turn black after a couple of hours, Windows 8/10 after a few months)
Windows XP SP3 does not need a key to install.
However, it will auto log out after the grace period.Last edited: Jul 22, 2016hmscott likes this. -

Yes, this is it, the slow devour of competing services by locking them out of Windows 10.
MS is going to keep doing whatever crap they can dream up, and keep sticking it in Windows 10, until people stop putting up with it.
The first glimmer of their plan came out, at release - keeping in the telemetry and monitoring, then making DX12 Windows 10 only, then locking out Windows 7/8.1 from new hardware releases - 10 years before EOL, then started the forced upgrades, etc, etc, etc.
Stop enabling MS's bad behavior, stop using Windows 10 and restore Windows 7/8.1 now, don't be a part of the problem.

I'm wondering why this had begun, post Ballmer, Gates... Is this related to the BOD or the CEO ?
Radical changes and massive orwellian push, very very dangerous game, I too hope isheepeople realize they are being clipped and stop trusting.
Pushing steam out that's a huge mistake, once SteamOS goes mainstream Micro$lop will suffer from lead poisoning slowly chipping away, EA will never support these shizsacks, So do the CDProjektRed, Bugthesda, Ubitroll too, Activision not coming to steam means loosing massive Multiplayer DB which is not going to happen, but then there's this overwhelming % of users who think new is great.
Only some B$ games owned by M$ are in the Store and no one cares those crap, Halo was dead since Halo 3 and true Halo fans know that, 343 is an abomination. Get Rekt M$, that day is coming soon with Vulkan.

I recently had to buy a new laptop because my general use laptop was is about to turn into a tablet. The screen is about to fall off. So I get the new laptop with the intention of atleast dual booting Win 7 on it and possibly only running Win 7 on it. Then I find out that there are no Win 7 drivers available for my new laptop. Now I am stuck. I wanted to keep a Win 7 machine and now it looks like I might have to pay to have my old one fixed (couple hundred bucks) in addition to being stuck with a new one I spent money on.
-
I didn't knew anything about Win8 until my Maxwell, never bothered this OS, I knew that 8 was a huge misfire on Vista level but things got better with 8.1, then he stepped out also Gates, Maybe the new BOD are the reason, Windows could've been exceptional with 7 like performance and fully user friendly, transparent but damn they just destroyed the future by choosing this path, Every-time I see about Vulkan things are looking great. I don't think there will be reckoning unless the Vulkan blows a hole through that Store.

The components in the laptops don't change that much, and there are likely OEM drivers and drivers for other models that have those same components that provide Windows 7 or at least 8.1 drivers - better than 10.
To make Windows 8.1 more livable, you can use an app like ClassicShell to tame the Metro interface queues and boot to the Windows desktop with a Windows 7 Start Menu, and delete all the Metro apps (ccleaner and other tools).
It's not that hard, it takes a little time to find all the driver names in Programs and Features, and type them in to search for Windows 7 versions, at the OEM site is best, but also at the makers site for other (older?) models that have that family of components in your new laptop.
It takes a little time, but it's worth it
-
Awhispersecho Notebook Evangelist
OEM site says no win 7 drivers available for my model. I actually don't mind 8.1 but I specifically want to keep a Win 7 machine around. Might have to try searching for each one on it's own like you suggest but that's alot of work to do just to avoid using an OS you don't want to support. Actually thinking of buying an older machine off eBay at this point. Problem is alot of people upgraded their machines to 10 before listing them.
hmscott likes this. -
Well, the Windows 10 Upgrade allows backtracking to the original registered OS, so you can do that with a fresh install of Windows 7/8.1, which ever license key it came with - if the original key is in the BIOS the latest Win7/8.1 installers will pick that up and activate on the original OS again.
The 30 day limit for restoring the previous OS from a Windows 10 Upgrade isn't a license limitation, MS deletes the original OS files after 30 days.
It's the way of the world now, find good hardware that you can hold on to for Windows 7, and make sure you have spares or warranty to keep it going.
Finding old drivers for new hardware is kinda standard for Windows 7 already, I have had to do it several times, and like I said even if you have new part numbers for components there are families of those components that have earlier model numbers - and the driver is usually for the whole family of components - like an older ethernet part and a new ethernet part are support by the same OEM driver roll up.
It's trial and error initially, but then you get a nice suite of drivers that support that hardware once you find them all, and keep copies of them a couple of places so you can recreate the install later if something goes wrong with requiring a fresh Windows 7/8.1 install later.
Good luck

Tim Sweeney thinks Microsoft will make Steam "progressively worse" with Windows 10 patches
By Shaun Prescott 12 hours ago
Epic Games founder renews attack on Microsoft's UWP framework.
http://www.pcgamer.com/tim-sweeney-...gressively-worse-with-windows-10-patches/#nnn
"It's well established that Tim Sweeney, co-founder of Epic Games and co-creator of the Unreal Engine, is not a fan of where Microsoft is headed with Windows 10. He's criticised the Universal Windows Platform twice this year, claiming that it's an attempt by Microsoft to monopolise what has traditionally been a happily open platform.
Now, in an interview with Edge Magazine, Sweeney has become even more direct in his criticisms, claiming that future updates to Windows 10 could serve to erode the usefulness of third-party applications and storefronts like Steam.
"There are two programming interfaces for Windows and every app has to choose one of them," he said. "Every Steam app – every PC game for the past few decades – has used Win32. It’s been both responsible for the vibrant software market we have now, but also for malware. Any program can be a virus. Universal Windows Platform is seen as an antidote to that. It’s sandboxed – much more locked down."
"The risk here is that, if Microsoft convinces everybody to use UWP, then they phase out Win32 apps. If they can succeed in doing that then it’s a small leap to forcing all apps and games to be distributed through the Windows Store. Once we reach that point, the PC has become a closed platform. It won’t be that one day they flip a switch that will break your Steam library – what they’re trying to do is a series of sneaky manoeuvres. They make it more and more inconvenient to use the old apps, and, simultaneously, they try to become the only source for the new ones."
While that could technically be true, how could Microsoft ever hope to bring down something as gargantuan as Steam, either intentionally or inadvertently? Sweeney believes they have a plan for that.
"Slowly, over the next five years, they will force-patch Windows 10 to make Steam progressively worse and more broken. They’ll never completely break it, but will continue to break it until, in five years, people are so fed up that Steam is buggy that the Windows Store seems like an ideal alternative. That’s exactly what they did to their previous competitors in other areas. Now they’re doing it to Steam. It’s only just starting to become visible. Microsoft might not be competent enough to succeed with their plan, but they’re certainly trying."
Sweeney has previously said that the PC has remained at the vanguard of graphics innovation because it's an open platform. Microsoft's supposed attempts to turn Windows into a closed platform risks neutering new breakthroughs such as VR before they've had a chance to flourish. "
Opened a Thread for Discussion of UWP on Windows 10 and what we can do to stop MS from succeeding in killing 3rd party gaming.
