Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation that I'm headed in the right direction.

While I was creating a new partition, I decided that it was time to do a complete wipe and reinstall of Vista. Once I am done with that I'll be installing 8 on the new partition. I thought that I would be done with this before I finished downloading 8, but the download was a lot quicker than I expected.

Yep, once i hooked up to my router via Ethernet things went quickly.

I'm still a bit weirded out by everything being full screen...Also have to get my drivers installed (my screen is pretty low resolution atm) but so far, so good.

If Windows 8 appears to hang on a blank green screen the first time you get logged in, do a ctrl+alt+delete, right click Explorer and choose restart.

edit: You'll want to get into desktop mode and force windows update to check for updates...there's several important ones that need to be installed.

Can't get ATI drivers to install.
If I install from windows update, the screen completely turns off and can't even boot to log in page anymore.

nvm, got it installed from device manager

Used it for a few hours. All my drivers and programs worked fine, the forced metro UI turned me off pretty dang quick though. It's just really awkward to use, I miss the start menu. :/ Took me like 10 minutes just to find the dang shut down button. Other than that, the improvements to the normal UI are really nice. Like the new task manager. I wonder if the full version will force the touch UI because it's just bleh, I hope not.

you're doing it wrong, kuro. there's no need for shutting down. just turn your system off, and on again. like your phone, like whatever kind of tablet you might have. like your tv.

that's why it's not front-and-center anymore, because it never should have been.

other than that, yes, it's a new ui. yes, people will complain having to adapt to new things, no that isn't new, and yes, it's highly annoying :)

and yes, the touch ui will always be there. which is good, as without it, none of the new apps will run. if you just want to stay with the apps you have, you can just move to the desktop app (yes, desktop is now just an app, technically), and live on there. but if you consider any of the new apps, touch ui is where it's at.

Alright! Win 8 messed my system now.
I was trying to do a dual boot but looks like Win 8 became the primary OS and created Windows.old for Win 7.
Any knows a way to go back or I need to reinstall everything?

I'm fully aware of 8's new suped up hibernation. I wanted to turn it off because I swapped out my SSD for a HDD to install 8 on since I didn't want to bother with VM. Regardless, I don't really care about the metro apps (As I'm sure lots of people do not) so I see no reason to force the metro UI. Even if someone wanted to 'live' on the standard desktop, at some point they're going to be forced to use the new UI anyway since it's been replaced with the start button.

Hopefully Microsoft gives the option, if not then on to waiting for Windows 9 and sticking with trusty 7.

Catalyst 11.9 installs like normal on Win8. :) NICE!

Once Windows.old is created, the old system can't be used again. You'd have to re-install Windows 7.

well, enjoy windows 7 then, and stick to old and tRusty, instead of trying to learn new stuff, and widen your horizon. what ever suites your boat.

and no, most care about the metro apps, contrary to your belief. which makes sense. but well, you still have lots of time to adapt :)

That's great news. Finally looking forward to getting a tablet that runs a FULL OS. Glad I held out on getting a iPad.
