    I ran Beta 1 on my T42:

    1.8GHz Pentium M
    1.5GB PC2700
    64MB ATI Radeon 9600

I also had Beta 2 on my Compaq V3000T:

    1.6GHz Core Duo
    1GB PC5300
    Intel 950

I had no issues with either. Aero was not an option with the Compaq.

Up and running RC1 on my M90 as of tonight. I went for an upgrade from Beta 2 rather than a fresh install. It took over an hour. Sucked. And it bit over 2 gigs of my hard drive. :(

As far as performance, everything is working fine. All the devices of the system were recognized automatically. See attachment of Device Manager. The performance seems to be pretty good, but my avast! doesn't work with RC1, so I'm gonna have to find another AV. Also, the Vista bootloader took over my boot options, so I'm gonna have to figure out how to get GRUB back up so I can boot into SUSE. Also, for some reason I get a 2.9 performance rating for Vista Aero interface... okay. But you give me a 5.7 for gaming performance? Right...

I have not yet tried it on my lappy, but I do have it on my desktop as of today, and I gotta say it is nice. I do have an issue though. Security. Where is it? It still seems to make you Admin by default. I have not checked for sure but I have yet to have to enter a password to install anything. All I have to do is click "ok" and away it goes. Did they learn nothing?

Other than that, it seems very nice, I like the overall feel of the interface and the game performance seems to be better. Definitely faster load times. Overall performace though seems slower than XP, but that is to be expected. I may try to install it via Boot Camp this weekend if I get bored.

Didn't want to install on my laptop so I installed it on my tower. I'm glad I did cause my sound was messed up (driver issues), my internet was slow, and on top of that, my computer lagged a lot. ***I did a fresh install.***

Installed it yesterday, other than missing drivers have had only minor issues. Used laptopvideo2go's modded inf's to install the graphics driver and so Aero works in the laptop. It has been pretty stable so far. Might use it as my main OS for a few weeks and see how it goes.

    1. Insert Windows XP CD and boot from it.
    2. Press R when prompted to enter into recovery console
    3. Select your Windows XP partition from the list and log in with your administrator account.
    4. Type fixboot and press enter
    5. Type y and press enter
    6. Reboot

You now have your WindowsXp boot.ini restored and you have it as a single boot. Now you can go ahead and format windows vista partition.

I've had a few builds of Vista on my lappy. RC1, and Pre RC1, both work flawlesly on my Sony Vaio SZ120P. The default and Windows Update drivers all work well. I'm dual booting with XP.

    If I were to pick some gripes;
Finger Scanner has a driver, but the Protector Suite SW doesn't work.
The adaptive CPU speeds seem slightly out of whack
    Battery life is horrendous

I think all of this wil be resolved when (if) Sony releases a driver set rated for Vista.

I am running Beta 2 on my laptop in a tri boot with Ubuntu and XP media center.
On my test pc box I ran both Beta 2 and pre RC1 without problems but RC1 I an having problems with the internet connection. Several persons are having similiar problems. I do not know if this is a problem with the nForce3 chip set or the Marvell driver. Even the diagnostic vista has could not figure this out. It tried to connect with MS but could not, even activation would not work. I tried firefox and it could not connect. I tried turning of ip6 and that did not work.
Four hours of heck trying to get this to work  If you have problem that I had, go into device manager and select the nic card click on advance tab and turn off ip4 and udc checksum offload. I am currently typing this on my laptop running RC1 I only have one device that does not have a driver.

I have vista RC1 running on my W7J. The only issues I'm having are with driver support for a few components (bluetooth, sound, webcam, video). The biggest problem for me is finding a vista driver for my 7400go.

Does anybody know where to find one?

Actually, an easier method exits. It's called VistaBootPRO (google it). Using this program (I think every Vista user should), you can disable Vista's bootloader and return to XP's should you ever decide to get rid of Vista. Then boot from your partition software CD and fix your partitions back to the way you want them. This should work, but do a little googling around to make sure before you go screwing with your system. But I've seen this work several times before. If you download and install the program, there is an option called 'bootloader' and it gives the option to 'uninstall Vista bootloader (use to restore XP)'.

Does the Vista RC1 work on Macbooks via Bootcamp?

If so, do all the drivers (including webcam), works?

Also, how smooth is it running with Aero Glass on?

Its not just Apple. There are lots of drivers that don't work. But that will change, as hardware companies write vista drivers.

Well, I reinstalled my wireless drivers to get my wireless card working. And reinstalled my touchpad drivers. Everything is working fine now. For a while there, the desktop wouldn't load. It would get past the welcome screen, then the screen would go black and quit processing. It was obviously a Windows Explorer error because I could use Ctrl+Alt+Delete and go into the Task manager, end the explorer.exe process, and then restart it (File.. New Process... explorer.exe) and it would start fine. But it did it like three or four times in a row, and then stopped. It seems to be fine now.

It's definitely more stable than Beta 2. And much faster. Compatibility has been pretty good. Trying to get an antivirus that worked was a pain though, but AVG free did the trick. I'm also working on trying to get my university's wireless security client working with my wireless card, but maybe now that I have the drivers reinstalled it will all be good. If I had to do it all over again though, I'd probably do a reinstall. It takes about half as long, and the upgrade overwrote half my drivers anyway.

Runs great on my V6j. Only probelm is, my audio works 50% of the time. I have the volume all the way up, and I get no sound sometimes. Vista detects the card as a High Definition Audio Device.

Is anybody using Vista RC1 as their sole OS? I'm thinking about trying it out, but I'm not sure if it's good enough to use instead of XP and I don't have the time/effort to try a dual boot.

I'm trying to start using Vista as my main OS, but not my sole OS. I'm still dual-booting XP and I would recommend that anyone trying Vista out do the same. Most people won't even consider running an OS until at least SP1, so a beta edition is certainly out of the question. And if you don't have the time to dual-boot, then you don't have the time to get Vista working flawlessly anyway. It's not that hard to do a dual-boot.

i got a program called Vista Transformation Pack by a talented programmer called Windows X, it makes my XP Pro look exactly like VistaUltimate. From the welcome screen to icons to cursors, to windows. its a really cool program for those who want Vista's UI but dont want to use a Beta. Its a really cool program, even better than window blinds! It replaces the system files that are responsible for the UI so it doesnt slow up boot-up and doesnt take up any resources! I recommend you all try it :)

No complaints here. I recommend installing LTV2Go drivers due to the lack of video card tweaking using the windows driver. Much more stable than 5382 (my last Vista install), office 2007 beta works great and MP11 is faster.

Imgburn is also a good program. It's what I used to burn it. Make sure whatever you do though that you set it to burn at about 2x to 4x, not max speed. I burned it the first time at max speed and came out with an error, requiring me to burn it again at a slower speed.

Back to using RC1, I pretty much use RC1 as my main OS now, and I am overall pretty happy with it. I still haven't been able to get F.E.A.R. to install correctly, but that may be me just being stupid. As far as the base OS though, I've found it to be pretty reliable and compatible. I read an article on winsupersite.com when RC1 was released, and the writer said that once you start using Vista more and more, you'll hate it when you have to go back into XP. Man, I didn't think it would happen so quickly, but it's already happened to me. I had to go into XP yesterday to grab a file out of the My Documents folder (Vista wouldn't give me access), and I hated it. I didn't wanna do it at all. My only problem with RC1 right now is that I can't write to my data partition. Maybe if I turn off UAC I can, but I don't wanna do that. I kinda like the fact that Microsoft is trying to make Windows more secure, and disabling UAC would partially negate their efforts.

Just remember guys, Vista will expire in June, so don't get too dependent on it without planning on buying the full version or making good backups :)

Me? I'm sticking with Linux for a next-gen OS. It's prettier and it doesn't assume I'm a criminal just for using it ;)

ROFL, note to all, do NOT attempt to install Alcohol 120% on vista. I just tried, it didn't end well. Lets just say that even vista can fall victim to the blue screen of death. Wow, this is a new record for me, crippling an operating system in under a week, I feel accomplished.

In my opinion and experiences, getting RC1 to work and run is pretty similar to using Linux... maybe that's why I'm not having too much of a problem with it.
