Oh, I have just deleted it and empty my recycle bin without hesitation...![]()
I noticed that the 'Search' above 'Recent Items' on the start menu has disappeared...

SP1 changed alot more of my programs to have admin privileges(uac prompt).
Changed system settings, instead of 3062 ram, it shows 3.0 -
Finally. It is done. Everything is smooth. I feel as if vista is a tad bit faster and more responsive. Could be placebo though.
-
They improved speed on certain processes/programs
-
Then its not a placebo effect! Hooray!
-
Microsoft recommends until April for the automatic downloads. That's kind of strange. Another month to wait!
-
I'm pretty sure all that stuff about tile, stack, and cascade wasn't there before when I right-click the taskbar...
-
does sp1 allow 32bit to see the full 4gb rams??

Your boot times WILL be longer until Vista gets a chance to defrag the bootfiles. See my signature line below to a link explaining the situation and am easy way to force Vista to do this specialized defrag. You might want to reboot a few times BEFORE you do it to give it a chance to build an accurate boot log.

SP1 will now just report the total RAM you have installed. It still will not utilize the full 4GB.

See it yes. Use it no. This is a hardware/software issue, as long as you are utilizing only 32 bit addresses, the hardware can only reference 4gb. But then the hardware has to set aside a certain portion of that 4gb for various hardware devices to use. (That is know as memory mapped I/O. And trust me, it is MUCH better than the OLD way devices were interfaced.)
SP1 just changed the info it displayed to show you that yes it found all 4 gb of memory you have installed. The old way confused a lot of folks who installed memory and since Vista didn't report seeing it, these folks thought they had faulty memory or had been swindled.
If you want to use ALL 4gb you must use a 64 bit version of Vista, period.

Really??? Which ones? I din't notice any changes. I did notice fewer prompts for certain things like creating directories in some locations.
Gary -
I've noticed that truecrypt takes a lot longer to auto-mount volumes (memory stick and sd card) with SP1.
-
Sorry to revive an old thread but...
I got it working! I used a backup image i made to restore my computer. (I did this for a totally different reason, but anyway) I then only updated the sound driver. One reboot later and tada, it showed up in WU.
I'll see how it goes this time. -
It worked! Yay!
-
Would it be safe to assume that any version of Vista sold nowadays (after the release of SP1) would already have SP1 on it by default?
-
Any new stock should be, but there will likely still be many copies of the original build floating around for some time.......
-
Yeah, you're probably right. I thought of that, but there can't be that many with the old build still floating around by now. That's just what I think.
-
i'm sure that stores will have that info in description of the product.
-
Actually, not always. I was just out perusing laptops two days ago and came across a few that the rep claimed had SP1, but that information was not in the item description.
-
I still have not had SP1 come through my windows update...does anyone know what's up?
-
If you have certain drivers, SP1 will never show up through WU.
-
so how do we do this? just use the stand alone package?
-
Yep.,.,.,.,.,.
-
well..that's sort of retarded...what about those folks that arn't even up to date with computers and sp packs? how would they ever know to download it without WU?
-
Technically they're not supposed to until Microsoft sorts out the driver issues.
-
ahhh...so it has never been published to WU?? but it is offered as a stand alone if you really want it?
-
Everyone except those who have a few select drivers can (and will) pick it up through WU. Those with the drivers either need to wait until the problems are sorted out or can grab the installer from Microsoft.
-
You and your Thinkpad with the X3100 need to visit this thread and read it closely.

It will explain your options. -
My T61p wasn't updating either until I updated my laptops fingerprint scanner driver. Then it updated to SP1 right away. If you have a finger print on your T61 download this driver. Then windows update will notice that it needs to install SP1.

Not a good idea at all. If you have one of the drivers that is preventing you from getting SP1, then it is a VERY VERY bad idea to force SP1 onto the machine by using the standalone installer. There is a REASON that you are being prevented from getting it through Windows Update. The reason is that SP1 is known to have problems working with those drivers. You MUST get new drivers or you may run into some serious errors.
Gary -

You really should NOT suggest this. The standalone installer does not check for these drivers and if folks who have the problematic drivers use it it can cause severe problems. In some case resulting in unbootable machines.
Gary -
Not suggesting or recommending it. Just pointing out the possible options available.
-
I installed standalone SP1 on both of my HP pavilions(dv6000 & dv2700). They both have Conexant audios that are listed as problematic by Microsoft, so needless to say they didn't show up on WU, no matter what i did(installed all the critical updates and drivers).
But SP1 installed on both of my laptops without any problems, and so far everything's great. -
I think Microsoft just isn't taking any chances, so even though the standalone worked, they want to minimize any issues IMHO.
-
Well, MS is always stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Option 1: Release SP1 to all computers; "Stupid Vista driver conflicts, burn M$$$$ devil burn!!! muhahaha!"
Option 2: Release SP1 to all except affected computers; "Stupid poopy pants, I can't gets my SP1zorz!111!!! muhahaha! fart." -
AFAIK, the driver issues can be resolved if you reinstall the problem driver after the SP1 install.
Windows Vista SP1 was released!
