No, that's not true. Not even Server 2008 has DirectX 10.1 and that's RTM.

The hack don't work anymore.

Slipstreaming is being able to make a new Windows DVD by copying the installation files to your hard drive, and then running the SP1 install in a different method that puts the SP1 files into the Windows Installation Disk.
Then you burn a new Windows DVD, and the next time you reformat SP1 in preinstalled, as if it was a brand new disk(like getting a Windows XP SP2 disk with a new computer).

Hey dudes. Is it possible to download a stand-alone copy of the SP1 when it is released? Or must it be downloaded only through WU?
I intend to do a fresh install of vista before applying the SP1 but as you know... once you do a fresh install, WU will blast you with tons of updates (those released prior to SP1). I wonder if we have to install those updates first before installing SP1? Sounds like a stupid idea but just wondering if it will affect the installation of SP1.
What is the process to ensure a clean install with SP1 without all the junk? Oh, forgot about the drivers too! Should they be installed before applying SP1? Else I read somewhere that WU will 'block' the downloading of SP1 if there are drivers which have 'issues' with the SP1.
-.-" -
Microsoft usually provides an offline (network) installer for network administrators, it's just a matter of locating it on the MS website. AFAIK, SP1 rolls up all previous hotfixes, so it isn't necessary to install any updates before applying SP1.
Regarding drivers: I always install drivers prior to installing any service packs or hotfixes/updates. -
thx mate. regarding the drivers my only concern is whether it is ok to install SP1 before installing the drivers since I reckon that there would be new drivers released due to the SP1. Not sure... just a hunch.
-
My drivers work, but I don't have many 3rd party. Which ones are you concerned about?
-
-
Hope so. It's annoying when I see people that don't trust this. It's what Microsoft will release in March or whenever they will decide to.
-
Agreed. However keep in mind some people (like me) avoid it NOT because they don't trust it, but because they don't see a need to do it.
-
Honestly I don't think of it this way. I know something works better. For instance after installing Server 2008 I never heard the HDD spinning until I enabled SuperFetch. That's a great improvement coming from a non-SP Vista (Vista with SP1 will behave the same). Also, I have that peace of mind that things will work better.
-
I'm sure everything works completely fine (the change in HDD activity is a nice plus), I'm still content with waiting. Neither view is inherently right or wrong. Although, per your sig, you're either right or an idiot, so...
-
Yeah, but mostly right.
I can't be right on it not being SP1, as it's been confirmed by 3rd party (x86 standalone SP1, other forums, Server 2008's build number and so on). -
I know, I was joking about the idiot thing.
-
I know
.
-
Ill just wait until its released on windows update as well.. I am really happy with Vista right now and as long as its not a major security thing or whatever not to have it I don't see any problem in waiting.
-
Still the same thing, I know how you feel, but shouldn't.
-
is there a way to get a standalone copy of it? like right now?
-
Not really, unless you have some friends with connections to the scene...

i have the final service pace 1 its ok i have not tried any benchmarks yet though
-
SP1 doesn't show that thing in the bottom corner anymore. Why would you want to see it?
Like I said, it's more than OK. There is a difference in performance. -

(Got this from a link on Hardforum.com)
Looks like SP1 RC Refresh 2 is RTM, we'll see when RTM officially is released to the public. -

There were a couple of updates that were prerequisites for installing the SP1 Betas. That may still be the case with SP1 final. So you MAY have to bite the bullet and run Windows update, UNLESS you can find those prerequisites and install them. This is total speculation on my part. The final release may NOT require those prerequisites.
Gary
P.S. I just found a link with the two specific updates you might need!!! Prerequsite Updates for SP1 -
The standalone doesn't have this problem.

Is my procedure correct:
Step 1: Fresh install vista
Step 2: Install device drivers
Step 3: Apply SP1 (ignore whatever WU prompts to update)
Yeah yeah?? -

Why is Microsoft not allowing SP1 to be slip streamed? I do not want to buy another Vista disk (using vlited install). Will there be cheap Vista SP1 disks for sale?

I have a Windows Server 2008 DVD

SP1 Success here!
1) Formatted.
2) Used a Vista DVD downloaded straight from Microsoft
3) Installed the Business Edition as per my laptop's license.
4) Disabled Automatic Updates
5) Installed All Drivers and utilities for my laptop.
6) Installed SP1.
7) Installed NOD32.
8) Took an image of C:\ using Acronis True Image
9) Installed Office 2007 & Office 2007 SP1
10) kthxbye. Vista FTW -
Do you notice any changes when using SP1? For instance, some people have reported that HDD activity is almost nonexistent while idle due to updates to Superfetch in SP1.
-
True, I never noticed, but now that you mention it, I notice that the hard disk activityled even while i'm typing this is not blinking! and the system feels so much more responsive and stable now!
-
The HDD activity is very much reduced with SP1. I can really tell that the HDD spins less. It feels more responsive. But I don't notice any differences in games (probably a few frames).
-
Which in return is giving me 20-30 mins more of battery life on my laptop!
-
I don't know about that and don't care about it either, but I care about noise instead.
-
What... SP1 is out?
-
Yes. There is hack do allow it to be downloaded through Windows Update on the first post here.
And I have to say, this ain't a 2 star thread...can you dig that sucker? -
So will I be able to get a DVD with SP1 on it when it is released? My grandma has a 56k connection (and won't upgrade) and the SP would definitely do good things for her since she doesn't have many other of the Vista updates. Will they release one? Can I order them off-line? Will Microsoft actually charge for them?
-
Yes, you will be able to get a DVD. I think Microsoft is gonna have them. Not sure if they will charge, but they will surely ask money for shipping.
-
-
Has anyone used this method!

I guess not. It's kind of useless until you get the standalone package.
-
Who's the moron that's low rating this thread?
-
fade to black, thx for the post appreciate it
but seriously, calm down mate, your very aggressive and pissed off in some of the posts ive read by you lol -
No problem, you're welcome.
I'm not aggressive, not as much as I should.
-
twicw now i've tried this and all it comes up with in the update is SP1 RC1 for download
-
Yeah, probably because it become RTM and the name wasn't changed. After the install however there will be no trace of the name RC.
