Just a little update: as many of you know slipstreaming SP1 is an impossible task (from what I read on the internet so far). But Microsoft will provide updated disks (with SP1) once it will be officially released for public use, so my guess is that you will only have to pay for the shipping cost (and probably a few bucks for the DVD itself). Microsoft did this with XP too, so if you have any experience in getting an updated CD/DVD tell others what the costs are.

^^ i already have a full install disc w/ sp1 on it in one install.. it is a rtm version.. i just use my key i own during install works perfect..they are out there if you look as i said though you must own a key for install already
-
Yeah, but it's not out yet (officially), so many people will have to wait until March or April for it. Not many of us want to use BitTorrent or have access to MSDN (even though it's not available on MSDN either right now).
-
-
It would be great if so.
-
Release date confirmed (not by MS), 18-19th February
http://www.pcinpact.com/actu/news/41628-windows-XP-vista-SP1-SP3.htm?vc=1 -
That's not true. The release date for the RTM was 4th of February (same goes for Server 2008). Microsoft will release it for public use sometime in March, while it will be available through Windows Update in April. The release on MSDN is sometime this month.

Hey I am having a little trouble. Yesterday late at night I started downloading sp1 but when I finished dl'ing the update through windows update, I realized that the whole process would take an hour so I canceled the dl. This morning I try to re download the update but my windows update keeps freezing. Any ideas??
edit..
And now I can't seem to find the update or my computer perpetually searches for updates.
edit x2..
Figured it out. Why can I not see my power icon where all the mini icons are stored on the bottom right. It won't let me enable it either. -
Are you sure you haven't canceled the install? You should of let it finish.
-
-
Yeah, well as long as it works.
-
It's not working for me. I've installed both the pre updates, downloaded the hack multiple times, rebooted 5+ times, checked windows update 10+ times, and still no update. Help?
-
-
I expected something like that. I'd really like to have it, and I'm not afraid of having to reinstall it if a newer version comes.
-
yeah i cant see it either :-\
-
Perhaps Microsoft stopped this hack?
-
So anyways, I downloaded this Registry hack and ran it. After running Windows Update, this popped onto my screen:
Short story cut even shorter, how do I fix this? Or do you have the files that can restore that section of the registry to its normal state?
Thanks,
Leon -
mine did the same. restart and try again
-
I recommend that IF you decided to try the hack, at least back up your registry or create a system restore point right before. -
I did the hack, 3 days after I got one of the perequesite update, but since I had already SP1_RC, the RTM didn't popup I guess.
-
You have to uninstall the previous SP version to install this one.
Also, if you have COM+ Event System and Background Intelligent Transfer services disabled Windows Update will not work.
Also, you should check for updates a few times before it appears. -
Yeah, just restarted and got the updates...
-
FadeToBlack..
I have both Vista SP1 beta (RC1?) installed on both my laptops. How do get apply the official release of SP1? Do I need to first remove my beta SP1? I did not notice SP1 beta from Add/remove software..
thx -
Just got the 80070003 error...
-
EDIT: In the add/remove programs settings, click "View Installed updates" and then double click on SP1 RC and uninstall it. -
I just need to clarify 2 things.
1. I am not able to connect to VPN using cisco VPN client after installation of SP1. Does any body know why ?
2. When I look at my installed updates, there are few cancelled ones. Should they be there ????Attached Files:
-
-
No, they shouldn't be canceled of failed, but it installed in the end.
I think that you will have to wait for an update for the VPN client. -
Updated first post.
-
Nothing shows up in WU?
-
What do you mean?
If you tried the hack and the SP doesn't show try to look for updates a few more times, as it will eventually show up. -
I did download the hack, but nothing shows up... I've also restarted after the registry hack
-
Have you run it as administrator?
You will have to install all available updates in Windows Update. And uninstall all the previous releases (RC). -
I haven't uninstalled SP1 RC1.. but that shouldn't be a problem, I will be prompted to uninstall the older version when I execute the installer. It should show up, even if RC is installed
-
It will probably not. Uninstall it, then check for updates.
-
-
RTM = final and it will have the same hash check as the Windows Update version (if you could be able to download it as a standalone).
-
Huh. So the Update that allows for SP1 to be installed in the future was officially released in Windows Update today.
-
I'm pretty sure this is it. Can anyone confirm? -
All these issues, I STILL think it's easier to just wait a few more weeks for it to be released for Windows Update by MS. -
It still says Release Candidate... ? It's not RTM
-
It is RTM, that's the whole idea. I have already told you it's RTM (tried it myself).
-
Well... I'm still not seeing the update on WU
-
1. Have no other RC installed.
2. Apply the hack.
3. Install all the offered updates.
4. You will see the update. -
Yeah I did the registry changes and I'm not seeing it on WU either...
I'm running x64 and yesterday those 'preliminary' updates appeared on their own in my WU along with about 10 others. I'm wondering if one of them (or getting them without the 'hack') prevents me from now getting sp1 early... -
Probably no. Apply the hack again after you've installed all of them and then check for updates a few more times (even try a restart).
-
Windows Update is showing: 'Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB93633)'
in the details it says something along the lines of "windows vista service pack 1 beta"
is this the RTM or not?
also says file size is : 65.0 MB - 534.9 MB -
I don't want to rain on any one's parade, but maybe waiting would be a good idea?
There are reasons why sp1 is being released in phases. There have been problems with some drivers that were written by third parties who didn't follow the rules. The end result is that at the end of Sp1, these devices will not function.
In Phase 1, Sp1 is being released to Manufacturers and Beta Testes because the hardware and drivers are a known quantity.
In phase 2, the volume licensers are getting it because they too are a known quantity--the release for them is for use on WSUS servers so they can push them out to volume license machines. These volume license users know the hardware they have and can anticipate the problems associated with bad drivers
In phase 3, the MSDN and technet folks are getting them because they are known quantities and it is expected they are equipped to deal with any problems (and they actually had to scream to high heaven to get the release because they were originally planned to get them in March with everyone else.)
In Phase 4, it will be rolled out to Windows update and people's machines who test properly will be able to download; those with known bad drivers will get updated drivers first.
In phase 5, everyone who didn't get it in 4 gets it.
It wouldn't surprise me if MS pulled it from Windows Update by now as they are releasing SP1 to msdn and technet in a non-standard way. -

Microsoft probably must of removed it by now, I am not sure though.
