Most likely, as it is now available thorough MSDN as of yesterday. I just finished downloading my copy.

Can someone tell me where I will find the build version, or number. I downloaded the vista SP1 x64 standalone, and it worked great. But I uninstalled it, and gave this a try, to see if there was a difference, and it installed just fine. But I can't seem to find the Build version now.
Seems like when I installed the standalone package, the build # showed up in system details, where it isn't showing anything now. I just says Service Pack 1 -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
Look for buildlab

My file transfers still seem very slow. Was getting about 3mb per second going frm external usb drive, to internal. Maybe I should install sp1 on a clean vista install? Any insight will help.
Thanks -
It might help.

I installed Server 2008 on my desktop on a seperate hard drive... and it works like a dream. There are some nice guides to help you go from the barebones core that Server 2008 starts as and adding the "modules" that make it look and operate like Vista... only faster!
Now if only I could get a key for it, lol...
It's really fast, really responsive, had no problems running programs / drivers and such. Awesome OS. -

I've had the final version of Server 2008 Datacenter x64 installed since the 5th of this month and it's working great for me.
-
Add me to the list of Server 2008 lovers. Soooo much better than Vista.
Absolutely love it. Oh and acaurora you don't need a key -
It's really better? Can you use it for normal things like you would do with Vista or....? Is it the same drivers...?
Using it for free for 240 days is more than what I need. I format each 3-4 months xD. -
Yeah, besides Sidebar (and Snipping Tools apparently) you can have what you normally have in Vista.
It's not bloated from the start, you install what you want to. -
Okay, the i downloaded the 64bits, corrupted download =/. I'm downloading the 32bits right now.
EDIT: http://www.pronetworks.org/forum/about101245.html you can import the sidebar from a Vista instalation -

I know you can import the Sidebar, but don't have anyone with a Vista SP1 to give it to me (since I don't want to re-install Vista on my system again).
Use a download manager to download that file JCMS. -
I'm on it right now. Is it me or there are no 3d effects on Aero? I mean, it feels like the XP transform packs.
-
If you want to use it legally, you do.
Otherwise it's piracy, *even* if you download it from Microsoft.
-
I figured that.
I'll probably have to use XP Pro for school next year though
Also, how do you change the internet security profile outside of the Administrator account? I mean, I got it all working like I want but on my other session, I can still only go into the trusted zones (and adding them for each website is somewhat annoying). Lotro doesn't want to run under the admin session
EDIT: Anyone running a network with it? When I access my network, before I could see the router + each computers, now I only see the computers and if I want access them, it accesses then tell me I don't have the rights to access X file. When I was under Vista, it asked me for a user name/password... then everything worked -
There was a link here posted earlier about how to get Aero working (basically you have to install the Desktop Experience pack in Server Manager and enable the sound & themes services).
-
3D Flips works (it wasn't on the bar >_>). The only thing missing now is the 3D effect when opening/closing windows , no big deal though
-
What effect?
-

-
You can do on the old-plain windows theme???
I tried the side bar, it says "error, data protection prevents it from running" and when I want to add it in "don't use data protection", it says that it must stay on -_- -
Just a heads up for people who wanna try out Windows server 2008. It is VERY VERY customizable, meaning sound won't work even if you install the drivers, Wireless LAN won't work either, unless you manually enable it from the 'Services' window / features << (similar to Windows Add / Remove Features in Vista, except it has a lot more inside).

-
Edit. After clicking on it, it said Beta.
-
Are you on X64?
-
What beta and what x64?
-
Before he edited is post
-
OK then, makes sense.

So, how much longer are we thinking we have to wait here before it's available to download off Microsoft.com? Any word at all? Next week? The week after that? My guess would probably be the week after, but who knows. They might surprise us. Does Microsoft's website's downloads update on Tuesdays as well?
-
Supposedly, it will be AVAILABLE March 18th---but not mandatory. It will become a critical update in June, I believe.

`If u Could do a clean install 1 time 6 month a time isnt a problem, if u couldnt do a clean install then i dont see how u can get vista. Betweeen why is vista good. U like how it looks or its fuction, I dont think it has anything different from XP, And XP would use less rams
-
Yep....anyone have a crack? LOL
-
-
So when is the official SP 1 for Vista becoming available for download?
-
Windows Server 2008 can be used as a workstation OS without any problems at all. The only missing thing from Datacenter (what I've got installed) is Windows Sidebar. Besides that you have plenty of features, like RAM hot-swap
.

If I get one more looping BSOD in Vista I'm going to pay the license fee!! XP is NOT an option
-
I guess that you can get Standard for something like 1k.
-
Alright Microsoft, I've had it. If Vista crashes again then I'm threatening to buy your really expensive OS!
btw I think the WS08 Web Server edition (i.e. without Windows client licenses) is similar in price to Vista Ultimate retail. (Not saying it's a bargain or anything....)
Also, my understanding is that it's the same at the core as Vista SP1... it's just configured a bit differently. Most features turned off by default, performance tuned for server use rather than desktop use, plus a few extra server apps (for example, IIS web server). So I wouldn't expect it to fix any BSODs that Vista SP1 won't fix. I'm not sure it won't, but I wouldn't expect it to. -
