M$ should stick to software. And forget hardware... The new pastel colored tile Os were designed in this way we see now because of the desire to sell smart phones. A big big fiasco!!

LOL... yeah, Surface Pro... what a joke. They're not really good at anything any more. Very sad how they have skidded off course and rolled over into a ditch. They may end up dying there because they don't have the good sense to call 911. All because of extremely stupid people given the power to make very bad decisions for the company.Papusan, toughasnails and hmscott like this.

So now that the Windows 10 upgrade offer is over, what happens if one does a clean install of Windows 7, does he still need to lookout for the bad updates? Are they still pushing the Telemetry and Windows 10 Upgrade updates?
-
The GWX updates have been rumored to have been pulled from the update stream, but since there is still a Free Windows 10 "Assistive update" offer still in progress there might be pushes to advertise that - unknown, but something to look for.
The Telemetry updates for Windows 7/8.1 will likely continue, or even increase to match change with Telemetry updates on Windows 10.
The only way to tell, at any time, is to actually do a Windows 7/8.1 install and see what tries to download and install.Last edited: Aug 2, 2016Papusan likes this. -

Actually, SP3 and SP4 are quite good for what they are which is, admittedly, a very niche market.
-
The "updates" are just to make sure their back door stays open to make it easier for them to take whatever they want from you. With so many powerful third-party firewall and antivirus solutions so out of control, SkyNet Micro$loth can't leave anything to chance as far as that back door getting shut. NSA and DHS are counting on it, too.
-
I've never been much for that either, but all of the signs of foul play are impossible to ignore at this point. Anyone that can't see it must not be paying attention and cannot accept the reality of such a draconian and Orwellian situation.stringbuzzzzzz, 6730b, Awhispersecho and 4 others like this.

When it comes to Google, Govt and now Microsoft amongst many other entities and things, I wear the tin foil hat, I am proud of the tin foil hat and I believe the tin foil hat is accurate when it comes to these things.
The problem is we are being herded into one direction with no choice. New computers don't play nice with Windows 7 even if you want to downgrade to it. So basically, you hold on to old machines until the duct tape no longer works or you buy a new one and are stuck with Win 10, no control and no privacy as well as crippled options and performance tweaks.
I have been a MS fan for a long time, I've been part of Windows communities, I've been a Windows insider, I loved windows phone 8.1, I still love the live tiles and contend that if Apple had invented them with the ability to see info without going into an app like you can, they would have been given credit for perfecting the mobile interface.
I have convinced people to stay with Windows, I have convinced people to use Windows phone. I currently have 11 Windows devices in my home and have probably spent over 25k supporting MS over the years. The last 12-18 months has been an embarrassment to say the least. They have become everything I despise and refuse to support or accept from any other company.
I no longer recommend them to anyone. I no longer defend them or their decisions. I still love the mobile UI, I love my Surface, and Windows 7 and even 8.1 are still my 2 favorite OS's ever. However, none of that matters when I can't stand the principles. It's like the most beautiful woman you've ever seen with a personality and morals of the worst person in the world. It doesn't work.
At this point, I'm kinda at a loss. My Alien is on 8.1, I have various devices ranging from 7 to 10. I need more devices running 7 but that's nearly impossible unless you want to roll the dice and buy a used device. Choices and options are disappearing fast and the problem is that there really is nowhere else to go. Mint? Ubunto? Maybe at some point. But that presents its own issues. I despise Apple and Google even more than MS so they are out. Crappy situation all around right now and it pisses me off.Last edited: Aug 3, 2016TBoneSan, stringbuzzzzzz, iunlock and 5 others like this. -
The fact being unless you are willing to go Enterprise M$ has given up on you using a private system. Android, Chromebook and Apple are not yet true desktop competition yet. This can also be said of Linux but I list them separately as it is definitely more private and there by secure option.
So spend the money and go Enterprise or the work to go elsewhere. This is where they (M$) are leaving us.toughasnails and 6730b like this. -

Even if you go the Enterprise route, you are still stuck with awful aesthetics, crappy gui, and almost unusable modern apps. Then you are still stuck having that non-power user feeling, when using it.
To me it is a lose, lose situation, and I for one will refuse to ever install Windows 10 mobile edition for desktop.Last edited: Aug 3, 2016steberg, Papusan, toughasnails and 2 others like this. -
That's very true... I am running W10 Enterprise N on both of my laptops and it's extremely butt-ugly like any version of Windows released after W7 unless you go to a lot of effort to make it palatable. The way W8/10 looks as provided by Micro$loth is what I like to refer to as an abusive overuse of white and pastel-colored cartoon vomit bomb. But, I've managed to fix that as well with UXStyle, some registry tweaks and AeroGlass, and StarIsBack. Now it looks almost as good as W7... even better in a couple of ways.steberg, Papusan, toughasnails and 2 others like this.

Would not mind seeing some screenshots of what you have accomplished! I did see a theme on Deviantart, that gave Windows 10 that aero sleek and sexy look. Not that pastel, flat baby vomit. I remember for years, people complaining about the Windows interface being ugly, and boring, so MS finally listened and came out with aero on Vista, and Seven, and I even heard it was included in some of the early builds of 10. So, why not give people the opportunity to choose what they want, and include it?Mr. Fox likes this.

Sure... happy to share. Notice all the transparency, and white text on window title bars, legacy (almost) Windows colorization options, etc.

Not bad, not bad! Check this link, see what you think

Yes, that is a great facsimile of Windows 7... great theme.

mr fox so you have a link or download to that UI u are using? i love that -
Would someone be so kind to take a screen shot of the Updates that they currently have installed who are on Windows 8.1 Pro?
This would be of big help.
Thanks in advance.hmscott likes this. -
Microsoft revealed today that Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will move to cumulative updates starting in October 2016. Users will no longer have the option of choosing individual updates. VERY, VERY BAD!! Here's the weblink to the Microsoft announcement:

So I now get to manually, once a month, download the security only and .net updates, meanwhile not knowing if they hid an update in the security update like they recently did...

Micro$haft will push out more Crap, and you shall never know which patches that M$ use to reduce the performance of your PC. They will force on you the new pastel colored Os!! But they will use another tactics now
Cripple your machine and you think a new Os will help
-
They are trying to phase out the OS early. Interestingly, I saw an advertisement on Facebook yesterday to train people on Linux!!!

I just finished installing the anniversary update and weirdly enough , 0 issues. Only thing i had to reinstall was the modded NVIDIA drivers.
And the system seem to be much snappier than before.
Getting rid of the telemetry and stuff now.

Run two or three bench afterwards for comparison with the old Crap. Both processor tests and for the entire system aka futuremark
Thanks

Meh, this is my daily use work install, not for benchmarks lol.
The Benchmark install doesn't even have updates turned on
-
Thought you'd done bench with all your Win Crap system... There is no need for multiple setups for a simple comparing, LOL
-
-
Even better..., Compare all, HaHa. And you notice a big difference in benchmarks? My single old Os installation works yet, LOL
-
**** no. I dont have the patience to do benchmarks right now.
But yeah, its not practical for me to have one install for bench marking and work. There are a lot of services that i need running. -
Off topic, but figured this needed shared:

On the page #1 Updates to Remove list I noticed the last entry was KB3173040 (which Simplix also notes on his 08/13/16 update). There were some additional KB/telemetry Updates noted on the most recent Simplix Pack not found on pg1 of this thread. For anyone interested, below are a few Simplix KB's to check out. Post #1023 (what a drag). I'll be shining up my dual, snakeskin Unbutu boots, post 10/16 for Nathan Mercer

First off, as i have mentioned before, this thread has helped me numerous times and is probably the most used thread i use with fixing client computers and new builds. AND I APPRECIATE AND THANK Phoenix for starting this thread and the info he and others have provided. Without it, I would be planning a trip to India to have a face to face meeting with Satya Nadella. Someone needs to......MS has become a joke since they moved it to India.......its a total disgrace. Its actually comical, that in the past ( i don't call MS anymore) when I would call and get a tech on the line at MS support, the first thing I would ask them is......" who is Satya Nadella "? NOT one person I spoke to out of at least 30 different techs i spoke with over a 6 month period.....even knew who that was....very sad.......Now ill ask you guys.WHO IS BILL GATES? duh........anyways........it just shows the level of intelligence that MS is hiring.
I also want to remind all of you that have used this info and helped you, that its important to donate to the author, even if its $5. With that said...
Ph oenix, if you need help keeping this thread up to date, I will volunteer..... if not....I would like to ask you to please update it on a monthly basis ? I know this isn't your full time job ( hahahha) and you only intention was to help others
but ive noticed that it hasn't been updated since June of 2016. Can we please get an update when you find some time, on the info and files that our have provided?
Thanks again and great work ........ALL!!

@Phoenix the last time he update was july 1th . He runs W10 on his laptop and relays on us to post bad updates but no one has post any for sometime now. In anothe month it will not matter much because M$ will only be posting cumulative updates starting in October 2016. This will be the day i shut off my updates. No more.....hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Are you all saying that the updates will all be in one patch and we cant remove the crapware and telemetry ?
ajc9988 likes this. -
The answer to the first part of your question is "yes".
The answer to the second part of your question is a qualified "no". Qualified for two reasons. First is that the code isn't crapware (junkware, bloatware, etc). Second is that you can turn it off. -
