Man, I'm glad I got them the second time around.
-
they work, just clink on the link and after it loads, change the /2/ in the address to something else. I just added a "0" (...net/01/02/mvista...) and it started dl'ing. If you read the earlier post on this, this is how someone found out they worked.
-
Try clean XP - it boots in less than 30 seconds for me
-
Thank you so much for that advice!
-
Yes orev, the file names are not part of "the inside" of files, but part of the file system...if a property was changed in the file - e.g. by changing the first line of a text file from path="my/vista/is/unstable" to format="new/Ubuntu/HardyHeron/is/here" then the MD5 hash of that text file will differ (collisions are not likely).

Hi.
I am currently trying to slipstream SP1 into the Vista download, using the information provided on the webpage below.
http://www.labnol.org/software/tuto...1-bootable-windows-vista-dvd-integrated/2750/
EDIT : I am now burning the DVD, and will be installing it shortly!
Regards
John. -
Let me know if it works John. Very interested as i might do a clean install this weekend
-
Is the 64 bit version the vista ultimate version?
-
ANY version can come in 32 or 64bit. Where the heck are people getting "Only ultimate has 64bit". All vista discs contain all the versions.
Im doing the vlite slipsteaming as we speak. I probably wont be able to do a clean install to test the integrated SP1 today -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Hi.
I worked, I now have Vista32+SP1 slipstreamed onto 1 DVD and their where no problems during installation.
Get slipstreaming Guys.
EDIT : if you have a problem with Vlite not responding, just give it a minute or two and it should continue.
Regards
John. -
ALL LINKS ARE FIXED AGAIN
(I changed all of the /2/ to /3/
)

If you're talking about changing a file name, then making an ISO image or something with that file inside of it, then yes, the MD5 will change for the ISO image. But for a regular file, if you are using the standard "md5sum" command line tool, then the file name does NOT matter. Try it for yourself. Take a file, make a copy to a different file name, then use the md5sum tool to make the hash for both files. They will be the same.

Ive integrated SP1 with x64 install disc using vlite.
Im going to do a clean install tomorow to confirm its working 100% and stable. -

Hi.
SP1 can now be slipstreamed into Vista to create a single DVD.
I have Burn and Installed and every thing works great, just follow the link below.

It must be noted that this method is a hack, and is not supported or recommended by Microsoft. Vista does not support slipstreaming, and in the future it could cause problems with Windows Update, and maybe other things.
It might work for you now, but the long term implications of doing this are unknown. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Ok
nobody follow the guide i linked, I will get back to you in 6 months or so, when i can confirm it is stable.
OK
John.

Hi, I've downloaded the files for the 64 bit version I just wanted to verify that when im using CDimage to create the iso, and im in cmd prompt do i change "cdimage.exe -lVISTA_EN_DVD -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax86.iso" to "cdimage.exe -lVISTA_EN_DVD -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax64.iso" or do i leave as is?
-
The name of the ISO file does not matter. Just make sure you remember what you called it when you go to burn it to a DVD.
-
Orev, I'm now confused. Since I changed the file name as instructed on the original page, does that mean I can't make an ISO image of the file like I was going to for my clean install? I'm all confused now.
-
Don't pay any attention to that stuff. That was a tangent about MD5 hashes, not really related to creating ISO images. I only used an ISO image as an example of a file that acts like a container.
Just follow the main page instructions. -
Thanks, Orev.
-
Okay i did a clean install using the x64 vlite integrated SP1 disc... it worked flawlessly. Everything is running well as it should
-
Good for you, Flipfire. I'm glad you got everything up and running. I will be doing mine later today. Finals are just about over with and I'll have the extra time to sit around and be a computer geek.
-
yup.. it takes about 1-2hrs to make the integrated SP1 install disc. Took me 30mins to install vista and another 2 hours to restore all my stuff like it was before
booting and everything else is running faster
less bloat
-
So altogether, I'm looking at anywhere from 2-5 hours? That ain't too bad, I guess. I'm also going to be adding a second hard drive to my desktop computer, so I guess that's also going to add some time to the project.
-
Since this is the case, I will not be trying to slipstream anything. My question is this: how do I update once I have done a clean install with 64-bit Vista Ultimate?
-
Its unlikely, my system is running perfectly fine like it was before. the installations all went smoothly. i WU to the latest fixes after SP1 and all went well, up to date on everything. I dont see how it can fail in the long term
The latest version of vlite was specially made for slipstreaming SP1. -
You can use Windows Update as usual, or you can download the full installer from Microsoft.
vLite had to be specifically made to do slipstreaming, because Vista does not support it. "Does not support it" doesn't mean, "you can do it but we won't support you", it means, "there is no mechanism in Vista that allows you to slipstream". In XP there was a special way to unpack the service pack files that would cause it to slipstream. This does not exist in Vista or the Vista service packs.
The fact that there is no way to do it only brings up the question of "how does vlite do it?" And the answer is, no one knows, except of course the developer. Now let me say that vlite is very cool and the guy who writes it is obviously smart, but whatever he is doing to make the slipstream work is some sort of voodoo at this point. I suspect it's doing something by unpacking the .WIM files, then making the updates, but you just can't know. -
I am still sort of confused as to why we have to rename the .exe?
"Rename this to X13-49121.exe after you download it."
I wish a WAU w/ SP1 were available; it should be a felony to not ship my damn disk and make me jump through hoops to get rid of this HP crap. -
Anyone else get this to work? It is taking none of my keys...used ABR to get the second key that is different from the OEM key, neither of which worked.
-
You need to have a retail licence not the OEM licence for that to work
-
the ABR key is the key that OEM's use on all notebooks with vista preinstalled
it won't work for getting the dvds
You need a retail license to get those -
Sweet links!!
I just saw this thread!!
Thanks!
-
Did you see this POST? You have to pay a little, but it works!
-
windowsmarketplace allows people to buy vista with SP1 integrated ( http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/content.aspx?ctId=410).
can someone confirm that the latest files in the links includes sp1? -
If you are talking aout the links in the first post of this thread, mine did not. I dl'ed from these links last week when they became "live" again. I did a clean install this weekend and I don't have SP1 right now.
-
no, SP1 isnt integrated on those links
-
there is no SP1 in these links

Hi.

Alright, just got a question,
Why DL X13-49120.exe and simply changing the name to X13-49121.exe for x64?
Aren't these 2 different files that have different sizes? As stated in this article:
Direct Download Links
I'm not sure if there's a problem if you do that, but
These are the links provided on the first post:
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/Vista_WIM/X64/install.wim
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/Vista_WIM/X64/boot.wim
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/X13-49120/X13-49120.exe
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/Vista_WIM/i386/install.wim
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/Vista_WIM/i386/boot.wim
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/X13-49120/X13-49120.exe
I just changed
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/X13-49120/X13-49120.exe
to
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/01/5/msvista/pub/X13-49121/X13-49121.exe
AND IT WORKS!
I haven't tried to burn it yet, but if there's no SP1 then I'll just go the WAU route -
The point of having people download the 49120 file is that 49120 works on both x32 and x64 systems and will compile x32 and x64 discs (when renamed)
But... the 49121 file only runs on x64 computers -
I hate to say this but I think the links are down again
. I just tried them to check and it came up denied. I tried to change the number but that did not work. Grrr!
Sorry, my bad; I tried again with a changed number and it did work. Phew! -
Ok, ill change all of the numbers in the links
EDIT: All of the links are fixed again -

All Vista versions are on one disk, but only one format, meaning one disk has all the x86 vista
s and one disk has all the x64 vistas. Only (retail) Ultimate comes with both disks thats where they got that from. -
BTW - Question for all. I made myself a Vista 32-bit disk and did a clean install this past weekend (wow, the FZ is SOOO much better with virtually no Sony-ware on it). Anyway - when it Vista asked me what version to install, there were 2 each for Home Premium and Business. One as is and then another entry for each at the bottom of the list with a "N" on the end: "VISTA BUSINESSN", "HOME PREMIUMN". I Installed "VISTA BUSINESS", what's the "N" version?
-
Nude version.
I think its for enterprise versions, aslong as you choose the top ones your fine -
"Nude", oh, you mean "nekked"!
Thanks flip - I went with the "regular".... -
The "N" versions do not include Windows Media Player or Media Center. It's part of the European anti-trust settlement.
-
So i can buy the ultimate upgrade for the say $15? When doing this method, does it come with the product key? cause i want to be sure before i purchase anything
*Edit*
How would I go about getting a liscense, since it does not come with one? -
You buy the full version and then you get the disks for free.
Working Legal Vista Download Links (Nice Try, but you still need a key!)
