Your welcomed - and if you have not see it yet, I followed THIS THREAD to make the Vista DVD and it worked flawlessly. Good luck!

Bookmark'ed.
One more though, what instructions do you follow to do clean install? Is downloading and installing all from http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNSZ440N®ion_id=1 just enough? -
I followed Gary's FZ Clean Install from HERE. It was a little different for me, but I made it through. I have very few Sony apps loaded and all works well except for the S1 button. And yes, I dl'ed all of the drivers from the Sony support site and I used Vaio Recovery to install a few things I wanted. Actually, if you save the Vaio Recovery folder out to a USB Drive or a CD BEFORE you start (C:\Windows\Program Files\vaio recovery), you'll have all of the drivers and apps from the original factory install and you add what you want/need.

Hi John,
Thank you for the answer. I was able to install Vista 64bits installed just fine with 4Gb. I would definitely test memory in the case, if Vista would not install with 4Gb.
In my case, it was related with corrupted downloads. Not sure why both, Opera and IE did that.
Interesting - I compared laptop performance with Crystal Mark in 64 vs 32 bits installations (clean with same set of drivers). 64 bits gives me about 6-8% of increase. Not much, of course, but I am up to extra Gb of memory.
Sincerely,
Dmitri -
Could the reason why I'm getting this error be because I'm currently using a 32-bit OS and I downloaded the 64-bit links?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

double check the MD5 file
It might not have downloaded completely, giving you a corrupt copy of install.wim -
If I have a legal CD-key for Vista HP, can I download Vista Ultimate 64-bit from the link and use that as a cd-key?
-
I'll try to figure out how to do that, and I'll let you know what happens. Thank you, Flipfire. I might just download all of the files all over again, though.
-
All Vista discs contain All versions of Vista. You would be downloading either a 32-bit disc or a 64-bit one. Once you have the disc, you can choose to install whatever version of Vista you like, as long as you have a license for it. The license is determined in the license key you have.
-
And that would be the serial key on the bottom of my laptop? Will I have to call M$ and ask them to validate it?
-
I think you will find my clean install guide helpful and it should answer most of your questions. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

Thanks.

I downloaded the files all over again from the first page, but I got the same error message (seen below) upon my attempt to install. Does anyone know why I keep getting this error? Is anyone else getting this error?

Hi.
I get that message when i tried to slipstrem vista64 + sp1
I tried three times, same error every time!
Just after i enter the licence code.
regards
John. -
Have you figured out a solution? I'm not trying to slipstream anything at all. I have tried loading from the bootable disc I created. When that didn't work, I tried it directly from the root drive. I get the same error message.
-
On the DVD that you made, look in the "Sources" folder and find the install.wim file. Is it there? How big is it exactly? Get the exact size by right-clicking, then going to "Properties".

Hi.
I have slipsteamed vista32+sp1 and xp+sp3 and all worked great.
But i cannot get vista64 to work with sp1?
regards
John. -
Hi Orev,
Yes I did check to make sure that it was there, and it is certainly there. The exact size is 3.26 GB. The whole file size is 3.55 GB. Also, I ran my virus scan since it usually tells me whether a file is corrupted and it says that the file is fine. I really can't figure anything out. -
John, have you tried loading it without slipstreaming SP1 to see if it works for you that way?
-

Hi.
I made my vista64 from the links on this thread and it works great.
My problems is when i try and slipstream sp1, I get the error that you mention.
my install.wim is 3.26gb on my vista64 dvd
regards
John. -
So is mine, so I can't understand why it's just not working for me. Could there be something about my current computer configuration "blocking" the installation?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

Hi.
In my computer right click on the vista64 dvd and go to properties.
My vista64dvd is 3,819,321,344 bytes

Mine is 3,816,141,384 bytes. It says that there are 614 files and 112 folders.

Hi.
where does it give the total files and folder info?
Regards
John. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
If total commander is right, I have 615 files and 112 folders.
It looks like you are missing a file!
regards
John.

That's odd. I downloaded the files straight from here and did not change or delete anything. I even downloaded all of the files again today after discovering that I had a problem. How do I find out which file I'm missing? Can someone please offer me some help?
-
Hi, I don't know why some of you are getting the error message. The only thing I have to offer is another way to make the bootable disk. There is a link in the first post, I believe, for how to make a bootable disk from the files but in the same website there is another way, check this link out: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/...able-dvd-from-microsoft-wim-with-vlite-guide/. I don't know if it will help but it is worth a try. Good luck.
-
It's not the method. I tried installing it from my hard disk and that didn't work either. There is something wrong with the file itself.
-
Then don't slipstream. Slipstreaming is emphatically NOT SUPPORTED with Vista, and in fact there is NO WAY TO DO IT. "But vLite does it!" you say. vLite is doing something funky and calling that funkiness a "slipstream". vLite is a great tool, but do not use it to slipstream.
Is that the size after you slipstreamed, or before?
The last time I downloaded and verified the files they were:
32 bit:
X13-49120.exe 77,340,536 bytes
boot.wim .... 121,963,537 bytes
install.wim . 2,412,507,182 bytes
64 bit:
X13-49121.exe 81,790,840 bytes
boot.wim .... 136,630,167 bytes
install.wim . 3,504,026,910 bytes -
I have a student version key for Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Will I be able to use this CD key to install the 64-bit version of Ultimate?
EDIT: I am trying to download the x64 files, and they are coming up as (77,340,672 bytes) for the .exe, (136,630,272 bytes) for the boot.wim, and (6 bytes) for the install.wim. That doesn't seem right... -
Yes, it should work fine.
-
Bump for my question:
I am trying to download the x64 files, and they are coming up as (77,340,672 bytes) for the .exe, (136,630,272 bytes) for the boot.wim, and (6 kb) for the install.wim. That doesn't seem quite right...
Why is my Firefox not letting me download the entire install.wim file? When I tried at work, it actually showed up as downloading a ~3GB file, but when I try at home, the download ends immediately, and is a sub-10 kilobyte file. -
Ive successfully slipstreamed SP1 to x64. Its been about a month now and its rock stable, havent recieved a bsod or any unusual errors
very happy
The slipstreaming process for x64 is tricky. Due to the size of SP1 + 64bit files, the disc you make will be specific to the version you purchased. eg. the disc i made will only install x64 SP1 Home Premium. When you install it, it wont let you choose between the different versions.
btw The SP1 standalone installer for 32bit is different from 64bit. 64bit is about 200mb bigger if i remember correctly. So dont try to slipstream the 32bit SP1 installer to a 64bit disc -

Hi.
can you confirm that this is the vista64 sp1 file
Windows6.0-KB936330-X64-wave0.exe
As i always get an error in install.wim
and i have tried 3 times.
thanks
John.

Could the reason why I'm getting this error be because downloaded the 64-bit version of the links, but I'm currently using a 32-bit OS?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

I have a 32-bit Vista Anytime Upgrade DVD that I bought from CompUSA back in October. I would be willing to trade a copy for a 64-bit Vista Anytime Upgrade DVD copy if anyone has it. Thanks.
E-mail me: [email protected] -
try PMing Bubbatex
-
Yeah, as far as I know for x32 and x64 slipstreaming you must be running that respective type of system (x32 for x32 slipstreaming, x64 for x64 slipstreaming)
-
is there a specific error?
sometimes it just doesn't work -
Do you mean if I'm trying to slipstream SP1? If so, I'm not. I'm trying just the links. I'm all confused as to why it's not working for me.
-
are you sure you followed the instructions step by step?
I wish they would just put the .iso image of the x32/x64 discs.. maybe even with SP1 integrated.
I dont recommend you download it from torrents. Quite risky -
I followed the instructions to the letter. I am not even trying to slipstream with SP1. Here's the thing, though. I can't even run it from my hard drive. When the bootable disc failed numerous times, I decided to just load it from the my hard drive. I get the same error message every time. I scrapped the 64-bit stuff and downloaded the 32-bit links thinking that would make a difference. I get the same error message, however. I don't know what to do anymore. I guess I'm just going to have to spend the money on the physical disc.
-
oops my bad i thought you were slipstreaming
are you using the 49120 file or the 49121 file to create the iso? -
try making the iso's on another computer
or install xp on a separate partition and try to create the isos from that -
I'll try it. Do you think that I should try downloading the links on a different computer too?
-
It's worth a shot, because I can tell you first hand that different computers download these files differently. I tried from my home computer, and the install.wim file kept downloading as a sub-10kb file, while my computer at work seems to download it fine. I tried through firefox and IE on both computers, and my computer just refuses to download it correctly.
-
No problem. I was using the 49121 because the instructions told me to change it to that. When that didn't work after multiple attempts, I downloaded the 32-bit stuff and tried using the 49120. Unfortunately, that didn't work either.
-
I'll try that next. Do you know why different computers download the files differently?
-
I think that as long as the file sizes were correct, you should be fine using the same files
-
for x64, you should rename the 49120 file to 49121 and use that
is that what you did?
