Hope it's legit.![]()
-
I'm sure it is.
Looking forward to it. -
Old news.
-
nice. cant wait. :O
-
The majority of the update only contains a compilation of already released updates. Very little of SP3 is anything new.
I have not seen any confirmed claims of increased performance unless you have not updated since SP2. -
The nice thing with SP3 though is that all the hotfixes, which normally are not downloaded automatically, will finally be included. Hotfixes which should improve performance, fix other bugs, etc, etc.
-
I hope it inlcludes Direct X10.
-
-
I hope it includes 4GB RAM support.
(kidding) -
-
Thanks for the info.

And I was about to reformat my computer. Looks like I'll be waiting a little bit more and then integrate this.
-
Will installing this reset the Windows settings?
-
i've been running SP3 RC2 for a while now and it didn't reset any windows settings that i recall...
but i could be wrong.... what kind of settings are you worried about? -
So will SP3 include everything, including SP1 and SP2?
-
Is there point in reformatting or cleaninstall with it?
-
-
Which seems odd, because isn't SP2 larger than SP3?
-
Kewl, 2 more days
-
-
SuperSite has good information on SP3 if anybody wants to check it out.

More links on the right hand side.
I guess if I do a clean install with my XP disc w/ SP2 then go to Windows Update, ignore the other updates and only download and install SP3, all those other updates will go away since they're included in SP3? -
That`s about right,yes.
It should contain all previous updates, recommended or not. -
Why are you guys waiting?
I have been using the SP3 final 5512 RTM (not RC) for about a week now.
It works fine, improved some performance with some CPU benchmarks and such. -
-
Thanks. -

Registry hack
-
A Google hack and a registry hack eh? Hacking sure has become diluted, back in my day.....
-
No gaming boost huh? Oh well it wasn't going to happen anyways. Hope its not too big cause I only have 3GB left on my C: drive.
-
i installed it few days ago as well, the RTM version.
programs start up much quicker compare to my MBP with SP2 -
yup just downloaded it too (no hacking just quick google search)
doing benchmark comparisons now, but CPU intensive tasks seem to have taken the greatest improvment.
Not much of a GPU improvement.
Will post a benchmark comparison thread soon -
by the way after you install sp3 there are no new updates available on windows update.
Maybe this might change when it is actually released on Windows Update, but it would seem silly to add more downloads when they could have been inserted to SP3.
SP3 RTM is supposed to be 316MB so don't be fooled -
, with 76GB of free space on a 111GB (advertised as 120GB) drive.
-
the SP3 (supposedly final) doesn't install media player 11 (but is available in windows update) and IE7 (not available in windows update)?
plus: I get an error when i try to open "install/remove windows components" after the installation. -
IE7 shows up in my WU fine...
-
ah ok. thanks. then prolly my set up has a problem.
-
ooh so tomorrow huh?
-
Yup!
Can't wait! I'm going to be there at 12 a.m. lol -
Why dont you guys just find the 5512 RTM... its the final, not RC.
-
-
i guess..
But I dont like to wait if I can help it. -
-
-
Or maybe just a really, really good d/l manager that can run autonomously and deal with getting kicked off thirty or forty times.
-
-
I don't know. It might reset tcpip.sys's 10 half-open connections limit if you hacked it, but otherwise almost everything should be the same. Just do a backup before you upgrade and if you don't like what you see, roll back with your backup.
-
I can confirm it resets your half-open connections to 10 and also replaces uxtheme.dll. If you were running any custom Msstyles, you won't be after SP3.
None of the patchers work either so until somebody fixes things, you'll either have to use a 3rd party program such as Window Blinds or settle for something like Royale.
-
I'm pretty sure microsoft has a huge server backbone. I downloaded vista sp1 the day it was released, and got it at full speed.
No worries. -
It seems to be running fine on my V5201. Aside from the multitude of hotfixes now missing from Add & Remove Programs, everything appears the same on the surface (for me).
