Oh, that's cool. Once you install SP3, all those hotfixes go away?

Please everyone make note. Service Pack 3 includes ALL previous service packs/hotfixes/updates. I see this question has been coming up a lot lately. :)

I still have yet to try it on my own pc but have had sucess so far on 2 others! As a theme editor/creator it is a must for me :D good to hear it works.

Did you install sp3 without unpaching UXtheme (previous version)?

I think people are confuse because Microsoft recommends users to install previous service packs first.

Here is an excerpt from Microsoft TechNet page:

Well I'm using a Vista-based visual style but I've been using that for a year or more, that little transparent folder thing in the bottom right wasn't there before.

is it out yet? Still waiting?

I downloaded it a few days ago, and the hash matched the original. But still.... I want to download it directly from microsoft. I want to re-install my laptops, and reset both my PS3. I want to do it together, so when I transfer my music, videos, pictures, and documents, everything will be updated to the latest of my music / pic / video collection.

Are you guys going to reformat once SP3 finally comes out? I figure it's probably the last service pack and I have free time, so I might as well.

I will slipstream SP3 onto a new install disk and do a fresh install...when I have the time, I'm very busy right now with school so the re-install will just have to wait.

Ok, I'm confused on top of having a question about my SP3 install...

I used the English DL link from ScifiMike12 that got it directly from microsoft's website. I did the install early this morning. Now you guys are saying SP3 has been delayed. I see the SP3 in my add/remove programs list, so I thought I had it. Now my question is, is this the real deal, an RC from microsoft, or did I get lucky enough to get it before they pulled it back?

My original question was gonna be about the install process. After instalation, my laptop rebooted as normal at first. Instead of going to the Login screen, it showed a 2 tone blue screen with the windows logo and said "Please Wait......................" I was thinking it's nothing more than the updating finishing up. Then it went to a black background and showed the Windows loading screen, the one with Windows XP in white text and the logo, with the scrolling blue loading bar under it. Only in place of the loading bar, it said "Please Wait" again and shown in my screen's native resolution instead of scaled up (thus appearing smaller than normal). At this, it hung. I let it set for a long while, but no activity was going on. My fans weren't even running and the laptop was basically sitting idle. So I did a hard shutdown via holding the power button, then powered back up and it booted fine. After I logged in, it displayed a window that it was cleaning up the leftovers of the install as I expected and didn't get any error messages or erratic performance. You guys think the install was successful and this was just a fluke, or maybe I should try again or something? The laptop is a few years old and I've got a new one on order already, so I'm not too concerned, but i was gonna give it to a friend to tide her over until she can get her own.

I could have sworn someone had that exact issue with Vista (hanging up, having to reboot, but installation was a success)...

What does the System Properties screen show you? Does it show SP3?

. XP SP3 (manually downloaded from windows update) is alive on my comp
. the booboo that m$ has is pertaining to an incompatibility with m$ RMS (Retail Management System) customers
. the update to the "current" breathing and kicking SP3 on my comp is to prevent RMS customers from seeing it as downloadable
. when the fix for RMS is available, then these customers will see it through the automatic update. This fix is not for normal XP users

@Mooncatt: i do not know how long it hang on you - the previous steps up until that point were correct. Mine took less about 5 minutes to complete, and yes, there was no activity in the hard drive. But i just left it, remembering the same thing when performing bios update.

    cheers ...

    yes and no:
. it is final if u are not RMS user
. the fix to this final build is only a check, if u r RMS user, then SP3 will not be performing the upgrade

this is the same issue that happened in vista SP1 to RMS users

    quote:
"Microsoft, which last week targeted Tuesday, April 29 for public distribution of XP SP3, is preparing to block PCs running Dynamics RMS from downloading XP SP3 and Vista SP1 through Windows Update and the Download Center, the spokesperson said.

Once that block is in place, Microsoft will release Windows XP SP3 to the public through Windows Update and Download Center. "Until we have published a fix for this issue, we advise Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers to not install either service pack," said the spokesperson. "

    cheers ...
