gotcha, a bit slow on these abbreviations

I did just that. I finished slipstreaming now. Ready to go (maybe this weekend)
-
I think I may try my hand at slipstreaming. I've never done it before so it should be interesting. Or I could go the easier route (for me) and just use the XP Pro SP2 disc I have, then install SP3. Of course, I'm first going to boot and nuke my HD to give me a clean slate to work with.
Here's the site I found on slipstreaming: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp
I'm guessing I just need to replace SP2 with SP3 in the article. -

I went ahead and downloaded it as well as installed it.
No problems here.
I'll try my hand at slipstreaming and reinstalling XP in a few days when I have the time to do so.Attached Files:

XP SP3 has been delayed.
http://www.internetnews.com/security/article.php/3743696/No+XP+Service+Pack+3+for+You+Today.htm
Despite this I see alot of people posting that they have it.
I'd wait till the real deal is ready. -
Well, for those of us who don't use MS Dynamics Retail Management System software (or even really know what it is
), the deal is done!
BTW: For anyone who cares, the d/l link in the first post on the thread "Final SP3 on microsoft website" still works as of 12.30AM US Eastern Standard Time, 4/30/08. -
interesting ...
well, in this particular case the "real" deal will come in the form of (a "message" - dont touch if u r whatchamacallit RMS user + current build)
quick update:
. going on strong on 2nd day with this "not so real" SP3 version
. usb devices (mouse, kboard, external drive, external burner, printer, web cam ... all in my possession) performance and handling are smoother and faster
. slipstream or a clean re.install will probably save users an average of 500-700MB of disk spaces - based on the amount of xp updates since SP2 and now
cheers ... -
Yip, it shows SP3, so I guess I'm good to go. I'm not seeing any performance differences like others have reported, but I'm not too concerned about that.
@ qhn
It hung for about 10 min at least doing nothing. -
it did something for sure, but 10min was a bit stretching. mine stayed quiet for about 5-6min
cheers ... -
Oh wow that sucks. Without restoring that value to something around 50 or 65,536, Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer load pages very slowly and uTorrent can't connect to enough peers. I'll have to find that anti-spyware program that can change the half-open connections limit when I get SP3 over automatic updates.
I'm using Royale Noir, so there's no worries over GUI hacks for me
-
It's very easy to set the half-open connections back to 50...
-
u might want to review ur internet setup, or the sites that u visit.
SP3 does not put a brake on any of my connections (internet, intranet, network ..) performance. It seems to make them better
cheers ... -
hey peeps
Can anyone tell me where I can download nero burning rom 6? I need to use it to slipstream...
^^
Can PM me? thx... -
Can't you burn directly from nLite? If not, you can try MagicISO.
-
thanks
anyway, can someone confirm that 5512 is the final?
Is the full version 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111)?
I'm so kind of worried I downloaded the wrong version... -
I installed it last night and my laptop seems to take a little bit longer to boot up. Also, the only startup programs I have are AVG, Rainmeter, and Rocketdock and it seems to load them slower as well.
Nothing I would label a "problem" though. -

Yes you have the latest SP3.
For those EeePC users out there, I integrated SP3 using nLite and trimmed down my disc --> 280MB.
Runs a hell of a lot better. But I think that was because it was bogged down with registry issues up the yi-yang. :/ -
What happened to the address bar selection as a toolbar for the task bar
?? Now there is the crappy slow cumbersome Windows Search function.
-
The link still works as of 4/1/08 at 1150am
-
I went to MS site but they only have the overview.pdf for download.

5/1/08 ..... -
LvlLord's patcher generates a false positive with NOD32's resident module, and I don't know of any other methods.
-
Hmmmm, I've noticed since I've installed SP3, my USB powered GPS receiver/antenna will sometimes lock up my mapping program, or act like it's not even plugged in. It may be related to my computer hanging on me during the installation and having to force a shutdown/reboot, and I'm gonna e-mail the software company for my program about this. Also thinking about trying to re-install SP3 and see if it goes through on it's own without hanging up. Would it hurt to try and re-install it? I'd think about a complete re-format, but you know how these mass marketed computers are...being shipped with no Windows installation disc. They must think Window's never needs to be re-installed.
-
Nevermind about patching difficulties. The tweaking program XP-Antispy is the one I was looking for.
-
very good idea, if u experienced issues during the SP3 update
cheers ... -
It won't hurt to re-install it, but can you elaborate about the hanging event during installation, did it actually stop working for a minute, 5', ....?
-
Well since Chaz posted the SP3 link, I guess I might as well update. Now should I reformat and clean install or just install it....

Integrating is the best alternative. But if the program you're using has some compatibility issues (nLite for example), then you can run the .exe after your format. -
I was going to try using nlite. What's the best way to integrate SP3 with my XP Pro SP2 CD?
-
Originally, I let it alone for about 10 minutes when it "hung" on the black screen with the Windows XP writing and "please wait" under that. The HDD light went out and appeared to have stopped doing any work after about 5 min and I let it stay for about another 5 before killing it. I had to get going and since I need my laptop for work, I had to force a shutdown and reboot, hoping for the best. It's worked ok except for the GPS antenna issue.
I just tried to reinstall SP3 before making this post. I let it get back to the screen it hung on and watched the HDD light flashing, so I knew it was still working. I went to supper, and came back to the same screen as last time and the HDD light was out solid. The laptop had been sitting 50 minutes from the time it got to that point in the installation until I got back from eating. I forced another shutdown, rebooted and now making this post. In case it helps, here's the specs of my laptop.
HP ZV6000 (2.5 to 3 years old)
Athlon 64 3200
1.25 GB ram (256MB original on MOBO and 1024 stick in expansion slot)
Sys properties shows I'm running SP3, Belarc shows SP3 build 2600 installed as well.
Integrated ATI graphics, Xpress 200, 128MB +128MB shared
Ask if you want any more info and I'll supply what I can. I think I'll e-mail M$ when I get a chance. Don't always have much time to spare for these things. -
Anybody have SP3 in their Windows Update yet?
-
Don't hold your breath - it's being released that way on the 13th.
-
Darn, so they're skipping the optional update in WU all together? I thought the 13th was for automatic update.
-
It's not much of a loss for me. Since my system's up to date on patches and I have IE7 and WMP11, the only new things in SP3 that I want are some networking improvements. My system's just the way I want it, so i'll do a full system backup before upgrading.
-
if u have done some tweakings for networking, make sure that u review all settings after SP3 update. I noticed that SP3 changed some TCP windows Size value, minimal, but it did. Still going through the rest at the moment, it is a moot point since SP3 has been rock solid in networking and internet at the moment for me
cheers ... -
I`ve actually been using release canditate RC1 for a while. So I don`t expect a big difference when I`ll go full SP3.
It's also possible to have SP3 already .
