Well, upgraded to FF3 beta. Looks good so far. I've noticed it's more responsive, scroll is smoother, and it renders pages better. So far, my only complaint is that most of my add-ons are incompatible. :p

i m sure that this is a short term experience, FF3 has implemented better security plugs within the area of extensions. All extension developers/owners are being asked to "recompile" using latest security api and architect

in a way i m glad that FF3 beta is out, this would make my testing with minefield a bit more pleasant with more and more extensions

    cheers ...

    m i missing something here?

except for the 1st beta version, the last 2 builds of O5 9.5 beta had done nothing but pushing this browser way down the ladder, in the way of page rendering and streaming video (broken plugins), the areas that i currently test

O9.24 is on the other hand, a very good stable version.

    cheers ...

currently testing build 9656 (u can pick this one up from filehippo as well)
. go to cnn.com, click on any news that link to a video streaming, an undefined message will come up within the video windows (this did not happen in Build 9624 or beta 1)
. on any sites, i use yahoo.com since it is where pretty much i spend my time, and use it as testing area for FF-Minefield (and Safari), the last 2 builds of O9.5 are having hard time rendering and spooling up info. Kinda a pause before it hit the whole thing. NOT happening in beta 1 (or is it 9613 as u have it)
. reviewing change log in the last 2 builds, lots of security and architect have been implemented, this could cause the issues O is having at the moment.

    cheers ...

Yes, and where is your proof that Opera is the best n0elia? Silas Awaketh? have you been doing accurate side by side tests? When you have absolute solid facts to support this i'll believe you.

just want to update with a non-scientific test
    . test site chosen = http://performance.toast.net/
    . test used = Shuttle + text (755K)
. web host = Xenial Technology

    FF minefield 3.0b2pre build result:
Loaded 754,928 bytes in 3.698 seconds from Xenial Technology server

Opera 9.5 beta build 9656 result:
Loaded 754,928 bytes in 7.672 seconds from Xenial Technology server.

    Safari 3.0.4 result:
Loaded 754,928 bytes in 4.341 seconds from Xenial Technology server.

    safari beta 3.0.4:
. better page rendering from previous beta, definitively quick and smooth
. default appearance preferences (time roman 19 and courier 13) can cause many sites to have the texts wrapped in the middle of the paragraph. Changing them to 18 and 14 respectively, smooth out the page and easier to the eyes.
. consistant with apple appearance, this browser offers a cool aluminum look with simple single frame
. video streaming from cnn or yahoo news are good, clear and smooth
. the plugins descriptions are best comparing to the ones from O 9.5beta and FF Minefield
. too bad the Activity option within windows tab, allowing downloading the likes of youtube videos is yet to be implemented in Windows version
. downloading is always to a preset directory, i prefer the possibility to save it whereever i like
    . and more ..... ???

    cheers ...

Opera 9.5b got funky on me, had to remove it. But I eagerly await the final. Back to old faithful FF. I know what's recommended, but can you upgrade 2.0.0.9 to the beta 3.0? Curious.

update on Opera 9.5 beta - latest build of 9665 (yesterday):
. hesitation of page loading is gone
. seems that with this build (& last previous) Opera kinda wait for all page info to spool up before present to the user. One sees the counter goes up on the top right hand corner and page only shows after the last count has been hit
. cnn video streaming (links) still broken - undefined message in the middle of the screen

update on Minefield last night build:
    . quicker and quicker
. yahoo mail pain ongoing and ongoing
    . ....

update on Safari: no new since 3.0.4

    cheers ...

Hmm, every Javascript test i've seen, Opera wins comfortably:S

But I haven't tried FF 3.0 yet, maybe I should give it a go?

The only problem with FF is RAM usage...

P.S Is FF able to save tab sessions?

    cool link!

cool that Opera has personal desktop team with manager and all. My remarks in post#66 regarding Opera 9.5 beta 9665 build stay. If these gentlemen can pick up from that and show the remarks to be different and with some hindsight as how Opera ".. wins comfortably every Javascript test i've seen" statement, it is woosh for a simple tester as myself!

Having testing it and spending average of 2 hours poking around when a new build came out, I can say that the first 9.5 build beta was very good - on track to probably still being the fastest loading browser - but it was heading downhill since with the last 3 builds. So unless, the beta development takes a turn back to the original version, Opera is about to lose it.

As it stands within my personal un.scientific testing of the betas, Opera is currently 3rd behind Safari 3.0.4 (2nd) and FF Minefield (1st).

    cheers ...

It's true that the last 3 builds have been disappointing, in terms of big changes.

But I think Beta 2 is really close, and you should give it a go when it arrives

thought it was a fluke, but last 4 builds consistent with memory hovering at about 70-80k with 4 opened tabs. Sites are loaded with pics, low and high resolution

    update Minefiled testing:
. yahoo mail issues in attachements r fixed, deletion must still at folder level
    . blitzy fast

i started testing with my current addon and thems using the "nightly tester tool" addon. Extensions function correctly (with the ones i have anyway), but themes are having issue with fonts, focusing and spacing.

no update remarks on Opera 9.5b build 9665 and Safari 3.0.4

also, just (probably) a security fix, when recovering from restart (after update or power out) Minefield will offer the choice to restore all sessions (tabs/windows). The last 2 builds will shut off the connections to live sites (example is if u r signed onto ebay, or mail client) and force u to resign-in. Previous versions would keep the connections live (excluded is when the comp is down) even when u unplug and replug in the connection.

I m not sure which scenario is better and what is it that means to work; must dig around a little more and see. Appreciate any inputs from forum users regarding this subject

    update minefield build 2007112905:
. i do not know what it has been included, changed, added or deleted but
. total RESPECT! i m talking about clicking on a link (a site etc ...) and boom, the page is up right in ur face (sorry Opera fans, i did not even remember a stable Opera could be this FAST after warm start!)
. memory process constantly at 70-110k with multi tabs and cnn video streaming
. video streaming quality is stable and clear and automatically adjusting depending on user system environment - previous builds sometimes required manually overriding the speed . audio is clear. I venture to say (my wild guess) that this is due to the fact that minefield has incorporated redesigned plug ins that can now be accessed direct and modified under tools->addon options (ff2 only has extensions and themes)
. does take 10-20secs at closing to remove itself from task manager (not consistent, sometimes faster)

    cheers ...

and yes, at closing extra tabs/video will see minefield RELEASING (almost instantly) process memory, noting also 10% + in cpu last.

A plus development comparing to previous ff versions that hold on (hog) memory even after tabs or windows were being closed.

    cheers ...

update Opera 9.5 beta build 9681:
. spooling of site pages still present, but it is smoother. Spooling, meaning for me, that the counter goes up in right hand top corner, page shows up only when counter is completed. a few sites show pages when counter hits at around 70-80%, not consistent
. cnn video streaming still broken
. yahoo video news streaming choked after few one after another. Quality is good however
. cold start fast, but it is being defeated due to the spooling effect of pages.
. process memory at 20k less than minefield with 4 tabs open, but did NOT release back memory when tabs close. Minefield is better in this aspect

update Minefield build 2007113005: simply hot dog! no add from previous posts - quick, stable

so is this the "better/special" build than the one i had, tested and posted in #82?

my personal take is this: - unless the Opera beta team is doing something quick, they might as well
. put the very first 9.5 beta build back
. pull the last 4 builds out of sight and do a bit more of internal tests
. and keep O9.5beta cheerleaders away from the bleachers as well ;)

    update minefield build 2007113005:
. consistent with observation of previous (2007112905) build
. bombed out after extended browsing, currently setting at 4-5hrs
    . recovering is ok
. navigation history bar now shows 2 entries (lines) on each of visited sites - 1=site address, 2=where the actual link is

but even with this version Opera had then NO good beta, the first version was full of issues about to blow.

9.24 is currently official and stable - end of discussion, since this is not what i am interested in playing/testing with. It would belong to another thread in performance reviewing between Opera (9.24) and Firefox (2.0.0.11) and IE7 and .......

other than that, i am all ears in beta bastling and constructive arguments

    update Opera 9.5b in general:
. finally found a link that reflected serious and constructive inputs
    http://groups.google.com/group/opera.beta/browse_thread/thread/c968ec6f65d16dff
. this would help to get Opera 9.5 beta development back on the right track for real Opera fans instead of "blind" cheerleading
. and a cool mini Wiki
    http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Opera_9.5_Beta_Other_Known_Issues

    update on Minefield build 2007120105:
. choked after 4-5 hrs of usage - restart was needed, 3 days running :-(
. file download resumed in background after restart - nice surprise
. yahoo news streaming lost the automatic quality management, looking like that the yahoo machine plugin still needs work.

(official version of) Opera does have a builtin handling for torrent download, with a clever way of handling network load to make the download transparently faster.

i m sure that some clever developer/(torrent)user out there would come up with an extension for Firefox eventually

I've tried all of those but Seamonkey suite. For me it's three browsers so far: FF, Opera and Slimbrowser with SB being my personal favorite because of options and Vista integration. I always, in the past, have returned to FF though..time will tell. ;)

What I meant was if the alpha/beta version of Opera are too hot to handle for some people, then they should go for the stable version.

I've tested FF3 now, well for 2 days. I still think Opera 9.5 is more lightweight, less RAM and CPU usage, and much quicker at opening webpages!
    FF is more stable though
