A few Latitude E6510 questions

Hi, I'm getting an E6510 system replacement for a D830. It has the following specs:

i5 560m
4gB RAM (2 dimm)
1920x1080 FHD screen
nVidia Quadro NVS 3100m
160gB 7200RPM hard drive
backlit keyboard


So here are my questions:

- can I still use i8kfan?
- is there anything like RMClock that I can use with the i series processors?
- anything like throttlestop?
- what kind of battery life can I expect with the 9 cell battery?
- the 3 year warranty batteries: do they charge slower?
- are there any known defects with this model (ex. the nvidia chip in the D830, touchpad on the D830)
- the keyboard looks different, if anyone has experience with both the D and E series could you elaborate on the difference/if one is better than the other?
- I've read that the backlit keyboard is of better quality/sturdier than the non backlit keyboard, is this true?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I've tried looking into them and haven't found conclusive answers. First thread and possibly post!

1) i8kfangui might read fan speeds, but it hasn't been able to control anything since the E630.

2) RMClock doesn't work for anything later than Penryn Core 2s.

3) ThottleStop should still work, but I would hope that it's not necessary.

4) Probably around five or six hours if you're careful.

7) There are several different makes of D-Series and E-Series keyboards. The quality varies pretty drastically. We have five E6400s in my family and all of the keyboards have a different tact. Same goes for the various D630s and D620s I've used.

8) Again, see above. I've found our two three backlit keyboards to be mushier than our non-backlit keyboards on average.

 

1) As stated above, i8fangui won't work.

2) RMClock will only support normal voltage Core 2 (Penryns were last supported CPUs.) ULV Core 2 will not work. Core i series completely change how turbo, FSB, voltages work.

3) Throttlestop will work, are you trying to overclock or undervolt?

4) Given the processor and discreet GPU, probably 4-5 hours max, all depends if you can deal with a dimmer screen.

5) No known defects with these series GPU. Just don't expect to game with a 3100M, it's a pretty weak GPU.

6) Key location is similar. I've owned plenty of D and used to own an E6410 and my mom has an E6400. My mom's non-backlit E6400 is pretty solid, no flex. My E6410 isn't backlit and there was a slight flex in the keyboard. All the D series Latitudes I used had no keyboard flex.

Now all almost all new E series Latitudes have that mushy keyboard feeling but it is really easy to get used to. Apparently E6410 has a new keyboard out, but it eliminates flex and the mushy feeling.

 

yea, im really used to the keyboard on my m4400 which is pretty much the same kb u get on the E6410. i like it because i can type quick and light, so much so that sometimes i miss characters when typing on my thinkpad because the keys are quite firm in comparison and need a bit more of a thump

 

It's pretty good older games (2-3 years back) or less demanding ones. Civ 5 wasn't really happy on my GF's E6410 while I was borrowing it, but Fallout 3 played pretty well on low settings, as did Starcraft 2.
