It depends on your graphics card.

Like the others said, it depends on your laptop and graphics card.

With the Precision M6600 you can do up to 6 monitors with the port replicator

Huh? Where did you hear that?

Max is 3 for most laptops of this generation. This was also discussed here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/7546283-post78.html

On E6420, I've only got internal + 2 external ones via DP. Haven't really extensively tested beyond that.

You missed that..this thread is about using a docking station, right?

I actually thought it was 5 on the M6600..two per displayport and then the laptop display when docked.

    Sorry folks, i don't understand.
I have a simple port replicator now connected to my M4500 with two monitors connected (one via DVI the other via VGA) replicator also expose a displayport, can i use that to connect the 3rd i need? (it should be touch enabled thinking about DELL's 2220T)
Tried inserting a DisplayPort to DVI cable on port replicator but it looks like that DVI and VGA outputs get disabled.
Any valid alternative to add a touch monitor as 3rd one to my configuration?

Checking the spec page for the M6600, it does indeed say max 5 when docked and 4 when undocked.

BUT, the E-Port Plus manual says you can connect two external monitors (pg 15):

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/acc/eapr/en/ug/EPortPlusUG0D.pdf

There's a note on that page which indicates the video outputs are grouped and that the DisplayPort on each group has priority over outputs in that group. So that implies directly connecting to the VGA, HDMI and DP on the laptop, then connecting to the 2x DP on the dock? (but that's already five, what about the built-in one?)

Had a look at NVidia control panel and it states that GPU supports only 2 monitors simultaneously :(
Anuone has a good USB to DVI converter to suggest?
