yeah that's the worst type of misinformation ever....how could you possibly make a mistake on how many speakers a computer has...but i'm not too dissapointed cuz i don't plan on acutally using hte speakers, i'll stick with the earphones 24/7

Just got my 1320 yesterday. It's just what I wanted - classic, clean, and simple look yet elegant and sophisticated.

The fan does turn on and off frequently even when not doing anything processor demanding, but it's quiet and not annoying at all. I was a little disappointed when I found out that the 1320 has only one speaker - the sound is a bit thin. I don't think it's a biggie since who really relies on their laptop speakers for quality sound?

I attached a few pictures. You can see how large the extended 9-cell batter is in the first picture. It's not very obtrusive, and I got about 6-7 hours from it yesterday. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone that will be traveling around with this laptop.

I was wondering if anyone else who has received their 1320 has noticed if their battery charger adapter heats up when charging? I just charged my 9 cell for the first time today and noticed that the adapter gets quite warm, even "hot", especially when it's charging and the laptop is working at the same time. Anyone notice this? Thanks.

Wow, it looks really good! Apparently, the Vostro 1310 has a slot-loading drive, and I'm glad that Dell made a tray-drive in the 1320. Could you possibly give an estimate of how thick this machine is?

Just get the laptop, it is a bit thicker than I thought but definitely worth the price I pay. Can you tell me what does slot-loading drive and tray-drive mean? I mean can I replace the optical drive with a second hard drive?

Also, can anyone answer a previous question I asked?

    Hello, guys,

I plan to replace my 160G 5400rpm with a Hitachi 7k320 once my vostro 1320 arrives, I wonder how does that affect the warranty, my main problem I am going to give the my original HD to some one else, so I won't be able to swap back the original HD if I need the warranty service, any one know if dell will decline my warranty because the HD has been changed?

I am going to do a fresh install of vista ultimate, I am wonder whether I need to load the ACHI driver (like intel matrix manager) into a USB drive first?

Thanks, will report back when I received the laptop.

A slot-loading drive is like thus:

a tray-loading drive has a tray that pops out, which is like the one you have right now on you vostro. I'm not entirely certain that you can put in a second hard drive; it might be possible.

I'm also not certain about your hard drive situation. My guess is that they'll probably accept it, since replacing hard drives doesn't void the warranty.

Having dealt with Dell corporately before, I had sent in systems before for servicing without the hard drive; we usually keep the drives at the office due to the data they contain.

So rivet, if you ever needed to send the laptop in for servicing, I would just use the above as an excuse (and remove the hard drive alltogether).

Unless of course the issue is with the hard drive itself; in that case, Dell will definitely not replace the drive as the hard drive's warranty would be with the manufacturer...

also livestrong, if you go on the dell website they tell you how thick it is, i think it ranges from 1.5 to 0.9 inches as you get to the front.
