    Folks,

I recently bought a Dell Vostro 3555 AMD Quad-Core A8-3520M Processor (1.6GHz to 2.5Ghz, with Radeon™ HD 6620 Graphics). This is a very fast, nice laptop. I'm loving it.

I've attached an inexpensive TV (23") that is high resolution (1080p) with an HDMI cable. Everything is fine except for reading text. My husband and I have changed several settings (scaling, etc.) to try to fix it.

Is there something that we may have overlooked with this computer? Surely, someone out there has done this and got it to work correctly. My husband is telling me to go out and buy a regular monitor, but I'd rather try to get the TV to work.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

is the video card outputing the right format? Most TV cannot handle the 4:4:4 subspampling and this causes issue with computers and HDMI particularly with TEXT

    Robin24k et. al.,

The text isn't out of focus as much as it resembles a poor print job. If you take a close look, letters appear darker in some areas and lighter in others. I've made a few screenshots for you all to look at. Go to: Vostro Screen Captures - a set on Flickr As you can see photos appear normal.

After I posted last night, we hooked up the Vostro to my husband's very large, very expensive, high-def TV. The display was much better. My husband thinks that even though the Coby 23" TV says it's 1080p, it's not getting enough pixels. He may be right.

Low end HDTV's don't work so well with text due to the issue that yeuemmaimai mentioned. Since TV's are designed for pictures and video, you may have to purchase a PC monitor to be able to view text well.

are you sure that the tv is 1080p vs being able to accept a 1080p signal?
