I have Dell Vostro A860 running Windows Vista. It has I-394 and VGA ports.

I want to output video and audio from this laptop to my HDTV (Panasonic Viera Plasma 42") which has most video inputs like HDMI, component, s-video but not VGA.

Is there a way to do this and if yes how? I route audio output from laptop to my 5.1 system via Pioneer A/V receiver. Can I route video through the receiver too?

    Please help. Thank you.

I don't think that the VGA to X adapters up there convert signals in the direction that you want them to convert signals, but the USB converters should work. Never actually tried any of 'em, though; I suppose something to be wary of is that there might be too much latency to do tasks in real time?

Sorry for the delayed reply and thanks for your comments. I tried routing the video from laptop to tv using a VGA-to-3RCA cable both directly and via my A/V receiver. Both approaches didn't work.

I'd try one of the connectors that ronnieb mentioned. Going by my experience with the above, I'd think VGA-RCA is more likely to work than VGA-HDMI (former being analog-analog latter being analog-HD). Any thoughts?
