    Hi guys,

I've cracked my bloody display bezel twice now and noticed it. I first thought it was my laptop bag and got a new one but now the screen bezel is cracked again too!

This happens on the screen bezel that is made out of plastic and right in the lower corners.

Does anyone have this problem besides me?

Edit: this is for a E6500 with a LED screen. It happens on both sides twice!

I've uploaded some pictures of it.

Sorry that I can't comment whether or not I have this problem as I don't own an e series latitude(not yet at least).

However, that's terrible that it is cracked. Do you have an e6500 or e6400?

p.s. I can see the cracks in your picture, but it's a little difficult due to the off focusing of the lense.

    I'll try to get better pictures. It's a E6500.

It's a well known problem in Poland. A few days ago I had a word with Dell's technican. Among the other problems he mentioned cracking bezels in an E-series. Just call Dell.

btw My E6500 is squeaking, he replaced a palmrest. Unsuccesfully. I have to call them again :(

I'm just concerned after my warranty that I'm gonna be out of luck with getting it replaced. I think it's form the action of opening the lid/monitor with one hand it causes lots of stress on the bezel near the hinges.

I was just testing opening it and noticed it flexed quite a bit along the bottom, but it could be cause it's already busted.

never heard of this problem before. usually the screen bezel cracks due to improper removal/replacement, as it is a snap-on component.

i have an M4400 which has the same bezel as the E6500. No issues here. had mine for over a year now.

opening and closing the screen should not cause cracking as the bezel is not a structural component. therefore it bears no stress. the magnesium alloy back panel is the structural component

It could be an imprecise build of the part at the factory, perhaps every time it opens and closes it's like a fraction of a mm too thick and mashes against the chassis?

I'm assuming your e6500 was built recently? Are you a European user(i.e. did yours come from the new Poland plant)?

Either way, I'm dissappointed with how quality control is getting worse and worse with Dell.

I had my Latitude for about a year and two months now. It's strange cause this is my second bezel and it's just broke too.

When the screen/lid is closed I can try to press down on the corner to see if it hits the machine but it does not. I'm not sure what is causing this problem.

I suggest to contact Dell, as see if you can not only change the screen frame, but also the laptop lid... as it might be miss formed, and can explain why the plastic breaks. Remember that the lid is in metal while the screen frame is thin plastic.
