Unless you want to pay a rediculous price from Dell, then eBay is probably your only choice. There is this one, from Parts-People, but it's like $180. (eBay's blocked at school so can't check)

Not necessarily...if your LCD cable is defective it can cause the same issues. Have you replaced it? It also could be the motherboard connector for the LCD. If it pipes out the display fine then your GPU isn't the issue.

Yes trying another LCD with another cable same results. Strange that the external monitor don't exhibit the same problem and generally I would say it would be LCD screen or cable at that point but as I said I tried another LCD with different cable with same results. Googled quite a bit and found that in some cases the external will work with card failing strange I know different output areas I guess. It is a intermittent problem. Researched I found out that Dell will extended warranty for Nvidia issues only. Called dell and my one year extended warranty is in effect to end of this month they asked if I wanted a motherboard replacement I said sure ! So they will send a box to be mailed to their depot. I made it just under the wire. I was going to replace it with a Intel solution but a free replacement would be foolish to turn down. Then again will the other Nvidia video fail also ? I guess will see. Did they make any adjustments to the Nvidia card to avoid them being prone to failure?

A defective GPU/motherboard/RAM would display artifacts regardless of which screen you are using.

If Dell say they will cover, then that's good news for you. Unfortunately Nvidia never fixed the faulty bump material, so there is a high probability you will get a refurbished board that had the solder joints reflowed or BGA work done to it. Most manufacturers will warranty work for 90 days or the remainder balance of the warranty, which every comes last.

If you have had the Nvidia motherboard replaced multiple times, I have seen cases where they will give you one with the Intel GPU.

So you believe Dell will warranty the work as my original warranty ended? This is my first replacement on this unit should I get with support and request the Intel video or would it be too late now as the order is in but I have not received the return box yet? Do the re-flow boards hold up better or do the just heat up and separate again?

    Thanks
    Dennis

Yes any manufacturer warranty service AFAIK have a 90 day warranty, and you are entitled to a rework during that period.

You would have to contact Dell about the Intel GPU, I don't know the specifics.

Reflowed boards might still have the issue. The problem is rapid heating and cooling causes the bump material to expand and contract, and the solder joints fail and disconnect the GPU from the motherboard.

Thanks for the input. I might just go to Dell Chat and ask for a Intel GPU but if the answer is no that's fine too. The D620 is in flawless condition so I want to keep it going as long as possible. Its the wife's unit I'm using a E6400 which also is a great machine. Some nice vids on youtube on how to reflow these GPU's.

D620 are fabulous machines. I wish Dell kept the D series going after the D630. The only thing I hate about the D620 is the Alps touchpad, but with updated drivers it is bearable but doesn't compare to Synpatics.

Just be wary of those Youtube videos, a teenager with a heatgun and no thermal probe/Thermometer roasting away a GPU is not the correct way to reflow the solder joints. The oven baking works better as you can control the temperatures. You also could rent out someone's infrared solder station or send it off to a shop after the fact.

See if you can call up Dell and see if you can pay for additional coverage.

Well just got off chat with Dell seems like they cancelled the warranty as the year extension ended on the 15th of this month. She wont budge real hard azz...........makes me mad maybe I do the flow thing. I was trying to get the Intel GPU because I feel a reflow or another board would of failed sooner LOL at the end I was so furious I typed Hello Lenova...............To say they'll fix it the change thier mind not good business.
