I received my dell outlet m6500 (scratch and dent) today and needless to say the top cover looked as if it was left in a hail storm. I have purchased scratch and dents from the home outlet before but was really surprised at the condition of this one. In addition, the system would not boot up all the way - it seemed to hang on the splash screen. I got a good price on the system and requested a system exchange but after reading some posts, I am thinking I might be better off just getting a refund.

For those of you that have done outlet system exchanges, what has your experience been? I am a little concerned about the turn around time (some say a week, others say a month...) and my replacement system. Will Dell just send me one or will I have the opportunity to approve the specs before hand? Thanks in advance for any input.

I've had a similar experience where I contacted their tech support and got the defective replaced in just 2 days. Contact tech support and ask them to send a tech to your door to replace all necessary parts.

I did but they insisted that I send the system back because they could not do that since it was the lid and not the screen that was damaged. The person on the phone was a real jerk. If it were not for the price, i would have sent the system back for a refund.

Did you get complete care with it?
If you did just contact tech support and get it fixed that way.
They will send out a new back panel or panel and screen assembly.

Nope - no complete care but it did have the standard next business day onsite service. Anyhow, i already sent the system back today thus my concern on the replacement system and time frame.

My guess is it will take a couple weeks.
As for the system spec they have to be the same or better.
Just like if tech was exchanging your system.

Call back again and see if you get someone different? My Outlet experiences have been good, I had someone really nice on the phone who did my refund of my E6410.

Just also be wary of scratch and dents, some can be in pristine condition, and others you can have what you experienced, flexed keyboards, uneven corners. If you can, try certified refurbished or previously ordered new.

Don't waste time on the phone and use chat instead next time. You can get an agent in about a minute and he will send a tech out to fix your problems asap. All precisions come with a 3 yr "on-site" warranty.

scratch and dents are good as long as you add complete care.
Just in case it is like the one he got.

Update - I get an e-mail indicating that Dell has confirmation my old system in on its way back to them and that they will credit my account once it arrives.... I contact Dell and get get transferred 3 times and finally get to speak to someone in the US!! Ashley was great and made sure my system exchange was properly inputted and she indicated it would be expeditded (not exactly sure what that will ultimately be...). When I asked why they could not replace the lid/cover she said that I had next day service and it should not have been a problem. I don't blame the tech support people in India but you have to wonder how much money Dell saves, not to mention customer agravation, when you have to go through Dells customer service hell......
