    Hi,

I've just switched from a dell xps 1645 to a precision m4500 and I find that the screen had a better image quality. Every color were brighter and felt more crisp. The screen on the m4500 seem to have a little grey coating on the image. Is there any way to get a better picture quality? Both my xps and m4500 have 1600X900 screen.

My settings on my m4500 screen are 1600x900 resolution. I have the nvidia quadro fx1800m.

In the nvidia control panel under adjust color settings I have :

    brightness : +40%
    contrast : +50%
    gamma : +1.0
    digital vibrance : +100%
    hue : +0

Like I said, with those settings the quality is good but it still seem a like there is a little grey coating image.

P.S : I have the latest graphic driver.

    Thank you for your help

XPS glossy......M4500 anti glare coating ?
I got sick of messing around with my M4500 LG screen settings to try and get the colours to look as good as the M4400 samsung panel, in the end I just accepted that the panel wasn't capable of reproducing the same natural colours, or as high quality, money saving pisses me off at this price point.

Do you have an LGD029D panel?

The anti-glare coating does tend to reduce colour quality but I prefer that to looking at a mirror. Windows 7 includes a colour calibration utility (Start > Run > Calibrate) which may help with fine tuning the display.

I just got an M4500 as a replacement for an M4400 that had a weird problem Dell couldn't figure out. Anyway, I had the RGBLED on the M4400 and I have what they claim is an WLED on this one. It's supposedly the best display they offer now on the M4500, but let me tell you: The color is terrible by comparison. When I had both machines side by side, my heart was broken knowing what I would have to deal with.

I did run the Win7 color calibration tool, but found I could get something more pleasing via the nVidia control panel directly. It's tolerable now, but still no where near as rich as the full gamut M4400 display. It lacks the range, and it has a horrible blue tint you really have to fight to neutralize.

I don't know how to tell which panel make/model is in there, but it's what Dell calls the 1920x1080 "HD" WLED.

Device Manager > Monitors > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids should give the monitor code.

So it's an LG and they are normally OK. However, it's unusual to see a 0000 number code.

I suspect that the underlying problem is that the new technology is less expensive but it struggles to match the quality of the RGB. However, I find that any new display looks a bit different to whatever one is used to when doing side-by-side comparisons but, in a couple of days, you will get used to it.
