    Hi,
I have a m6400 with a fx2700m, when i first got it, it played games and was fine. Now it cant play Counter Strike Source which is very old. If i plug an external monitor into it there is a ghosting like lines down the second screen.
Also around the same time this all happen it started going to 100% cpu usage with nothing running, lasts for a few minutes then goes back down.
I have found that if i put a fan on the back of it then it isnt so much of a problem. Which makes me think its something to do heat. I have 2 years warranty left, any ideas?
    Cheers

Have you tried updating to the latest Nvidia drivers?

Also if you suspect it is heat, get a can of compressed air and blow out all the dust.

its quite easy to clean out the M6400, google for the hardware service manual and open it up. clean out the dust and reapply thermal paste. if that fails, give dell a call and use your warranty

    Hi,
Thanks for the replies, i have reformatted a few times to try and fix it. I have also cleaned out the fans, they were already clean.

Might contact Dell about warranty. I thought it might have been a common problem.
    Cheers
