Ignore what I said above, I've found the problem. At first, there wasn't any thermal paste applied onto the GPU and CPU, so I applied some AS5 and checked the temperatures. The GPU was still the same. Then I found out that the heatsink doesn't even touch the GPU. There wasn't thermal paste on the GPU when I took it out. Can someone explain and provide a solution?

    Thanks

If the heatsink assembly is serving both CPU and GPU (as appears to be the case shown here) then a thermal pad is usually provided on the GPU. This can span a bigger gap - thermal paste is intended to be a thin layer only.

Hey Guys i know this post is old but I have the same problem going on except my computer fails and I have to take it appart and blow it with a heat gun to reflow the sodder.

I am looking at temps in celsius of 40's for cpu and mid 60's at iddle and mid 80's at video playback for the GPU. I also noticed that the GPU heatsynk did not have much paste and the thermal pad looked too thin and there seems to be a gap between the actual GPU and the thermal pad that is supposed to join the two.

My computer has been reflowed with a heatgun 5 times now by yours trully and it always works. I am convinced that the thermal pad and or paste are to blame because I can tell that the heatsink and GPU do not touch. I am going to buy some paste and thermal pad tonight and see if it makes a difference.
