Does it still bog down the system and take forever to use?

If it worth installing, I need to install both Dell Security Manager and the driver?

I am using it now on me e6400. I like the convince of the single sign in with my finger after authenticating with the preboot module. I do find sometimes my computer doesn't like to go into sleep mode, also some times the finger print reader isn't available after waking up from a sleep.

You do need to install both the security manager and drivers in order to get it going.

I have a fingerprint reader on my M2400 but have only used it once before I decided to uninstall the driver and Dell's security manager. I find typing in my password much more convenient than swiping my finger on the pad (which sometimes may take more than a couple tries). In addition, one less unnecessary program installed is always a good thing.

I agree. I've always found fingerprint readers to be gimmicky at best. I have a friend with a ThinkPad T43 with a fingerprint reader and it always takes him a couple tries to get his fingerprint to go through. I'd rather type my password as well; I didn't even configure my E6400 with a fingerprint reader.

I'd third these opinions. Fingerprint readers aren't really reliable, and if probably takes longer to swipe just once than it does for me to input my 7 character password. It's gimmicky, and unless your company requires one, probably a waste of money.

Also, since I dualboot, I just use a BIOS/HDD password. It's more secure.

I used the one in my XPS M1330 and plan on using it on my future latitude.

Had it on my D630 and now on my current E4200 and E6400. I love the fingerprint reader. I have no issues with Windows 7 x64 and hibernate/sleep mode with either.....and I think it's easily been a month since I rebooted the E4200.

I use it for login purposes only. It's convenient as long as I'm careful around the table saw.

Maybe you all could visit my post in Dell's IdeaStorm website to urge Dell to standardize their fingerprint readers.

    Here's the link.
