OK, first of all I had the same problem on my E6400. None of the answers I found on the internet worked. But I found a solution.

    1. right click on "My Computer" then click "Manage" then click on "Device Manager" on the left of the window.
    2. click the + symbol next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers", "Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller" should be listed there, right click on this then go to properties. Click the Driver tab at the top and click the "Driver Details" button, this will show you where the driver file is located. Should be C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\rimmptsk.sys.
    3. Locate this file in the windows directory and copy/paste it to your desktop, rename the file "sdbus" and place the file back in the above directory. It will ask if you want to overewrite, choose "yes".

After completing these steps restart your computer, and place your SD card in the reader and it will read and show in "My Computer". Keep in mind this is just a work around for the card reader.

All the other suggestions mentioned manually installing the driver, but this is not possible unless you edit the service pack 2 files which is where it keeps installing this driver from.

    Good Luck

We had the same problem with all of our E6400 ATG. We use them mainly for mobile units. We could not get the pcmcia reader to read the cards due to the driver. We even had DELL service reps come out, of course they couldn't figure it out either. Our whole IT staff couldn't figure it out. It took our surveyor to come up with the solution. You have to install Active Sync 4.5 if your using XP Pro sp 3. This will also allow you to use all mobile devices such as data collectors. Moral of the story is, if you have a PC problem nobody can fix, ask a surveyor.
