I bought a WD Scorpio black for my E6400 and would put it in 2nd bay to replace my 120G vertex SSD for extra storage. From WD website, it states the drive does not have free fall sensor, and I know E6400 has free fall sensor in its mobo, but I can not find the driver from DELL website. In addition, from DELL "How to reimage" manual, it says
too bad, I can not locate the file.
    any help?

My E6400 has the anti-gravity sensor built-in to the Seagate HDD.

My E6410 has similar built-in to the MB.

I suggest you do not have either, hence no driver file to be found.

Mine doesn't, so no driver on Dell.com.

My E6410 does, so driver is on Dell.com.

The new scorpio black's no longer have the free fall sensors.
Additionally the E6400 does not have the option in the bios like the E6410 does.
I received my Scorpio Black yesterday and had the exact same questions you had.

hmm, when I read the DELL manual, it says both 6400 and 6410 has free-fall sensor on mobo...

I doubt that. And I would not expect an E6400 doc to know what an E6410 is.

Dell offered HDDs with FFS for the E6400. I never noticed anything on the board because there was no need to install a driver. The E6410 definitely has an on-board FFS.

So, the E6400 does not have an anti-gravity free fall sensor on the motherboard... or does it? :D
