If you want more portability between docks then the E4310 is better but if you will be using the machine undocked for significant periods then the E6410 with WXGA+ display will be preferable.

I do not even think the E4200 has a media bay so not sure how that would work on it. That alone would make me skeptical on that setup.

The WXGA+ screen on my E6400 is schhaaaweeet

    E6410
Nividia Video Card Available (biggie for some)
    More pixels on the display
    More universal media bay

    E4310
    Smaller
    Longer battery life

Everything else is pretty much equal in my experience.

Someone has posted about having 2 hard drives in their E4310. The link to the caddy you posted looks legit.

    thanks for your response, guys.

I don't need the nvidia video card at all.

I am using a Y550 right now. I believe the resolution is 1366x768. It's not too bad... plus, most of the time, I will be using it with dock to a monitor.

should I go ahead get the e4310?

Honestly, I'd get whatever is cheaper.

It sounds like your mind is made up on this. I use mine with an E-Port Plus dock. Make sure your dock and monitor has displayport if possible. DVI-D connections are fine too.

Get at least 4gb of RAM.

Also, look at getting an SSD if you can. Makes a huge difference in the speed of the computer. At the very least get a 500gb 7200rpm drive. Mine came with a 160gb 5200rpm drive and it drug the machine down badly.

Get the 6 cell battery if you want 6+ hours of battery life. I see around 7 in back to back meetings or conferences. The 3 cell gives 3 to 4 hours on a coworker's E4300.

The i-520M and i-540M are fairly close in performance. The i7-620M would be a nice little performance bump. Graphics clock frequencies are the same on all 3 chips. I use the i-540M.

Good luck man. If you have any questions, fire them our way. Let us know how it works out for you.

wow! thanks a lot for the response.

I really like E4310 and E6410. I think either one will work great for me.

Is the fan on E4310 noisy?

I will get a SDD somewhere else and buy that HDD caddy off ebay.

6 cell is a must on E4310. If I go with E6410, I will get the 9 cell.

I heard i7 is hotter than i5, temperature wise. I will get the i5. 520 or 540 doesn't really matter.

If you get to choose once more, E6410 or E4310??:p

If it was me, it would come down to if I had to carry it around with me alot. If the answer is yes then I would go with the E4310.
