Its set to maximum performance, and the laptop hasnt even been running on battery. Will try to disable powersaving on the wifi card completely...

Didn't work, and Dell's advice was to reinstall driver and flash BIOS. If that didn't work I should reinstall Windows. It didn't work, so I guess I'll have to try reinstalling Windows before they'll come fix it..

    Yet another quick question:

I'm doing a clean install of Win 7 Pro x64. Do I need to point Windows to the Intel IRST driver during the installation? I find the re-imaging guide unclear in that regard.

Fwiw, I'm in AHCI mode. I'm thinking of skipping Intel IRST alltogether, as people have reported DPC latency issues with it.

I haven't seen any reports that you need to point to a special driver during Windows installation. I would stick with AHCI unless you plan to use the IRRT technology and I think that the built-in AHCI driver in W7 will get you running.

However, when you do a clean install then follow Dell's instructions and install the System Utility software package (see the E6410 downloads) before you install any other Dell drivers / software.

I reckon just boot up the Ubuntu Live CD and see what happens.

OK, so how does my 6410 process Windows updates when the lid is closed and it is supposed to be sleeping? I got up this morning, opened the lid and I was at the login screen after it had installed updates. I thought it was asleep?!

Maybe it had a bad dream, woke up, and then decided it should update itself since it couldn't fall back asleep :)

Kidding aside, on two occasions so far, I've also been surprised and worried to find my e6410 running in the morning after I've closed the lid. Wonder if this is a windows trigger miss or a hardware switch issue.

I've also had this happen on a T42 I had too. One particularly bad instance I remember, was closing the lid to put it to sleep then putting it away in a laptop bag. A couple of hours later when I went to grab the machine, I noticed the laptop bag was quite warm and the machine was still running. Definitely not good for the laptop or the battery...

Long story short, after this happened a couple of times on that machine, I decided to always take an extra moment to make sure the machine had indeed went to sleep. I did also on my e6410. Recently though I've resorted to shutting down the machine instead of letting it sleep. It takes about 4 secs to shutdown and about 7 to boot up with an Intel X25-M G2 and Win 7 Pro 64-bit. This also solves the problem of the e^410 not always waking up from sleep or hibernate, causing me to have to completely shutdown the machine and restart it, losing whatever app/data was running at the time of the sleep/hibernate. Not a perfect solution. I haven't called Dell yet about this.

Anyone else experience these issues? Found a way to fix them?
