Was just on the Dell Deals site and saw that you could now order the E6400 and E6500 new...a bit surprising even though it states for a limited time only ;)

I had to look for myself but you are correct, they are there and fully customizable. Doesn't seem worth it though as they are priced right up there with the new 6410 and 6510.

I wonder how much these alloys hamper the wireless signals reaching the antennae inside the lcd back

It doesn't cause any problem. The reason for this, is that the top part, the one with the design on the cover is actually plastic, and the antenna at the inside is fairly big (that is why the frame of the laptop is thicker compared to other systems.. well some models). At University, I am one of the few that has the best wireless reception, where it works fine at area that most people can't get a signal. I have the E6400 with the Intel Wireless N 5100 card.

AFAIK the antennae are behind the plastic strip which forms the top (when the display is open) part of the display back.

I would wonder if the power management is either reducing power too far or turning the adaptor off completely.

I agree. Try turning off power saving on the wireless under Control Panel and see if that works. Aside from that, call Dell.

Does anyone here own the 6410 with Intel graphics and got Ubuntu 10.04 to work?

I've googled and found the workaround for Nvidia users. But none for Intel users :( :( :(

It's very ironic--I specifically chose Intel graphics because I thought that it would be less problematic
