Did you ever manage to resolve this issue? If not, what video driver are you currently using? If you are using the 257.21 driver, you may experience issues establishing a digital connection with a projector or an external monitor. I along with several other forum members earlier resolved this issue by using the WHQL drivers available from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Currently, the newest driver is 259.41, and I have verified that the connection works via the DisplayPort. Alternatively, 198.05 or 189.74 are rock solid in terms of stability, and should not produce any apparent issues.

I didn't look during the sale, after several months of ignoring computers. However, I ordered an e6410 last night after seeing it was $100 cheaper than a e5410 while being configured better.
540M, 2GB, 250GB, webcam, silver. $615 after taxes. Not bad IMO. Got an e-port on the way and I'll get a 4GB stick to replace one of the 1GB sticks (for 5GB total) in the near future for a very nice machine.

Question about the status/indicator lights above the keyboard. Ever since I got the machine, the icon on the left (above the F4 key) has been lit. It looks like the number 9 inside a little lock. I couldn't find information on this in the (meager) documentation, and before calling Dell, I wondered if anyone knows what it means.

    Many thanks.

Num lock, I would assume, since there is a number inside a lock as well as being next to the Caps lock and Scroll lock icons. Would make sense.

Press function key and F4 to turn on and off.

And when the light is on, pressing Fn+"j" gives "1", etc.

Also, E6410 BIOS A05 has been posted:

 and  Is there a 'duh' smiley on NBR? Because if there is, it should have my picture on it.

Yep, it was num-lock. I never use it and forgot it might be enabled by default.

John, my system came with A03 BiOS. I'll update everything to the current versions when I reinstall. I'm still fiddling around with all the bells and whistles to make sure everything works.

Out of the box, both the touchpad and touchstick are awful. I always use an external mouse, so it's not a big deal, but I'm hoping the reinstall and correct drivers will help. I've also had the issue others reported where it won't come out of sleep, and again, I think a fresh OS install will probably resolve that as it did for others.

Otherwise, so far, I'm a happy camper. :)

I think there's an option in the BIOS to change that.

My 6410 doesn't have any issues that I know of, other than erratic mouse behavior when DCP is open. Which doesn't bother me cause its never open anymore.

John, would you recommend that I still update from A04? I've never done a BIOS update before.
