I just tried Returnil, a Deep Freeze alternative.

No go, does the same thing. Every time you restart, settings of various programs get changed.

I wonder if the SandForce Controller on the Vertex 2 has anything to do with it since you say it works well the Intel X25 G2. I'd suggest bringing it up at the OCZ forum, but be careful and don't say it worked with Intel. Their forum rules strictly forbid the mention of another product aside from OCZ.

    I run exclusively Ubuntu n my E6410.

Until the last kernel update there was a serious problem with the graphic drivers that made it not work with external monitors or come back from suspend. They fixed that in an update that was distributed yesterday. Now my laptop is working quite well.

The only problem I have now is that suspend is not working. It does stop all processes, shuts down networking and blanks out the screen, but the hardware stays on. I have to do a hard reboot to get out of it.

Another user in these forums, Zaraphrax, seems to have had the same problem, but I could not find whether he found a fix. Anyone having similar problems?

Sounds like a Linux driver issue. Try an older or newer driver.
One lesson I learned, is unless you buy a laptop where you make sure it's Linux ready, then expect problems, even unfixable ones.

TBH, I'm getting tired of your regular criticisms of Linux ITT. My understanding is you neither use Linux nor an E6410. Why don't you let the E6410 Linux users exchange information here undisturbed? I'm an Ubuntu user and E6410 owner, and I've already benefited quite a bit from the Linux discussion going on here.

Yes, I have the same issue on Mint. I haven't booted into Linux for a week or so (been to damned busy) so I haven't grabbed any updates for a while to see if that fixes it. But yeah, still does the same thing. I'm likely going to move myself back to Debian in the next few weeks (I've had my fun with Mint), so I'd like to see if I can get that resolved if possible.

Out of curiosity - does your ethernet adaptor acquire DHCP properly? Or does it just sit there if there's no address already allocated and pretend there's no cable plugged in? Apparently it's the Intel Ethernet kernel driver, but I've not found a fix for it (other users with different laptops using that ethernet chipset have reported the same issue).

    Huh?
All I am saying is don't expect the best experience ever on it. I am being truthful here (no trolling I premiss, let me explain!). I already had Ubuntu on my system (dual boot) and seriously used it (I had several courses which has assignment requiring a Linux environment for about a year), and what you got, is the best I got out of my system (E6400). If you read my previous past some time ago, you can see that I pass through my share of struggles. After playing in it around, the best I got is what you have as an experience. I am surprised you got it this far frankly.

I was able to put Ubuntu on my desktop and have it running perfectly without much effort. And this is what I used. I still wait for new drivers for my laptop.

The method of installing Ubuntu on both my systems, is to run the setup in Windows, with the Windows uninstaller item.

As Linux users (whether full time or part time, particularly those of us who have professional degrees in technical areas) we understand that the experience we get on Linux isn't going to be on par with the same hardware on Windows. Whilst this isn't 100% of the time, and whilst we accept that, it'd still be nice to see if there's a fix for these things. We aren't demanding that things work right 100% of the time, Linux is experimental, not supported by alot of manufacturers in terms of drivers, so there's really no point to bickering.

Anyway, if we haven't seen this already, this looks pretty darn promising for those of us who want to run multiple OS on our E6410's. Currently the RC only supports Intel graphics, but the final will support nVidia I believe:

Citrix Systems Desktop virtualization, virtual desktops - Citrix XenClient

This is something I'll be looking into very closely over my summer holiday once my hardware is supported. Being able to flick seamlessly between Windows and Linux would just be awesomeness on a stick.

For me it worked as soon as I got Ubuntu installed. Try the Intel 82567LM drivers. (Download Locations)
