I was able to activate my Windows 7 64bit copy using the original Dell 32bit key without any trouble whatsoever.

It's possible the issue may lie with the adapter, but I am still not entirely convinced, since others have used the same or similar adapter and transmitted the audio stream. The issue appears to be driver-related, but for some reason, we cannot find the combination that works for your system.

Since it appears you cannot install the newer HD audio driver through the setup program, you can also manually update from the HDAudio directory via the Device Manager. Simply use the 'nvhda' file and "Update Driver" in the location earlier specified. This will get you up to date, but the HD Audio revision has never played a factor in my ability to transmit audio.

When do you plan on purchasing/receiving your SSD? At this point, starting fresh will remove some of the unknowns associated with a factory install, and increase our chances of finding a solution.

Guys, everything is working great except my touchpad is really really messed up. I've tried doing a clean install of the drivers, but it didn't do the trick.
    Any suggestions?

You want suggestions for 'messed up'? How about 'clean it'. :)

Lol, I mean it's really screwed up. It gets "stuck" at times, then there are times when the cursor just goes wherever the heck it wants to, etc. I didn't notice this problem with the factory install - so I don't think it's a hardware issue. But at the same time, I've clean installed the drivers, so I can't really figure out what else I can do.

I would download the current touchpad driver for E6410 Win7 x64... get a fresh download. Uninstall the old driver. Install the new driver. Reboot. Could be a better sequence for doing this.

Also, when you installed Win7, did you install the Dell drivers in their recommended order per the Dell reimage guide? Say, something like this:

0 OS Win7 Pro x64 (load pre-OS SATA AHCI driver)
1 Chipset Mobile Intel 5 Series (QM57) (plus Ricoh SD driver)
    2 Dell System
3 PCMCIA SmartCard (none, Express Card)
4 Intel Storage (skipped IRST app, AHCI mode)
    5 Audio IDT 92HD81B
6 Video NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M
7 Intel Turbo Boost (run setup)
8 LAN Intel 82577LM Gigabit Ethernet
9 Dell DCP Security Drivers (skipped, no readers)
    10 WLAN Intel 6300
11 WPAN Dell 375 BT (used custom installer)
    12 WWAN (none)
    13 Touchpad
    14 Free Fall Sensor
    15 Modem
16 Intel vPro or AMT (no vPro, skipped AMT)
17 Dell Control Vault (skipped, not used)
18 Dell DCP Managers (DCP System Manager only)
    19 Dell Webcam Central

Not every install order is critical, but some have been, still are, or presumably can be critical; and given an order, why not use it. The order tends to be more critical at the beginning than at the end. My feeling is that if you randomly wing it, back track willy nilly, and then end up with some funky software glitch, then perhaps the order was more critical than not.

Your factory install worked so I suspect you've got a glitch that may only work out with a cleaner install.

How's that for 'I dont' know what the problem is!'. :)

And, consider a new hardware fault... they happen sooner than later.

Try safemode... may remove a conflict enough to prove the touchpad can work fine under restrictions, suggesting an install glitch/conflict.

I will probably pick one up in the next month. I will report back my success/failure with a fresh install.

I do have one more question related to this.
I have seen a lot of posts discussing a fresh install of Win 7, but I can't seem to find an answer. I have the Image DVD that I made when I got my first unit (Interestingly, I tried to make another one and the Dell Recovery software keeps crashing).

I have the Win7 Pro key thanks to Magic Jellybean. How do I go about obtaining uable installation media? I know in the past, I couldn't use a Dell OEM key when using a "generic" xp disk.

If the Win 7 Pro key is a retail license, then I suggest downloading an installation medium via the following thread: Legal Windows 7 Download Guide.

Ensure to follow the directions, particularly removing the ei.cfg file from the .iso, to ensure that the installation is compatible with any version of Windows 7.

If the Win7 Pro key is for an OEM license, then also use a program called ABR to back up the OEM Activation: ABR Beta

The aforementioned thread should provide you with all of the details you will need for performing a clean install, as well as the links to the installation media. You will not need the Image DVD you received with your former unit. If you have any further questions, I would be happy to advise when the time comes.

The NBR official E6410 review is now posted. The hardware of the review machine is the i7-620M CPU + Nvidia GPU.

Need a slick, 14" portable desktop? What's not to like about the E6410? Factor in Dell's support organization behind it and you've got any easy choice, imo. Sure, you can nitpick over details, but Dell has already done the bulk of that for you... and for Dell since they need to build, sell, and service a viable product using the technology of the day... as has been their tradition.
