ok , but the latest version was released on September  And you said 15th October, that's why I was asking ;)

Edit : Forget it, the problem is that I opened the E6400 driver page ...
You're right, the latest version was released on 15th October ...

Try using the Microsoft Update Catalog WHQL drivers to verify that the issue is not a product of the drivers. There was a known issue with the reproduction of sound through a DisplayPort to HDMI interface with the previous drivers, and I would not be at all surprised to see this issue revitalized in the current version. For what it's worth, the latest versions of the NVIDIA Verde release program appear to have working audio as well, if you'd like to keep up to date. The Microsoft Update Catalog drivers will guarantee the greatest success in my experience, however, so I would start from there.

So I'm having a couple of issues with the machine:
    1. As it turns out, the sleep wake issue hasn't gone away - I get a black screen after the Windows boot screen and then it just seems to freeze.
    2. The touchpad randomly starts acting REALLY weird.

    Did you try this?

Did you try running the Dell diagnostics CD?

Did you install latest Dell drivers for Win7x64 in order when re-imaging?

Thanks for the response. I believe I had read something to that effect in another posting. I was HOPING that the newest drivers would have corrected this issue. Can you tell me where I can download these drivers? I assume it's windows update, but I don't want to take a chance and fetch the wrong ones.

    I would recommend the following:
If possible upgrade the i3 to an i5. You can always upgrade memory and hard drive easily, upgrading the processor is not an easy or inexpensive task.

If you get the 1400x900 you can always set the resolution lower. Obviously the display is better (crisper) at its native resolution, but between either bumping down the resolution or using windows to enlarge fonts (probably a better solution) you at least have the option to bump up to a higher resolution.

The NVIDIA video adapter is nice, but beware that it will cost you battery life. Also, I have found that even when using the newest drivers, the NVIDIA adapter is having trouble with pushing audio through to an external display.

Either one of these drivers works for my computer. I have tested audio using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable on my HDTV. I would try the Microsoft Update Catalog version first, though I am inclined towards the Verde release, since it has some bug fixes, as well as the clean install option. As a recommendation, avoid using OEM video drivers. This applies to almost every notebook manufacturer :/

    Microsoft Update Catalog: v259.47

    NVIDIA Verde Notebook Release: v260.99

Ok, I have checked the bios, it is running A05. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the video drivers. I am still having one more issue. When playing a video it hangs up about 20 minutes into playing. After I reinstalled the video driver, it seemed to play about 30 minutes or so before doiing the same thing. I just got off with Dell support, they had me run a system diagostics. Everything came up clean. Their suggestion is replacing the laptop. Any other ideas??

Hangs? Like as in a hardware lockup? It works for awhile, perhaps ruling out software, and then locks up, perhaps suggesting extended use/heat pushes a marginal component beyond some operating threshold.

Dell may be right to advise replacing it.
