I do agree with some of the negative statements. Altough I AM a loyal Dell cutomer, I stick to my older D series Models, since having lots of trouble with E series systems at work.

Built quality of the E series 'feels' worse than on D series. (D series only problem was HDD temperature and weak hinges)

E series systems beep for no reason, docking is murky, usb devices (mouse keyboard) keep freezing....

I still like Dell a lot, but E series is not at its best!!!

Though my E6410 is going back to Dell, overall I haven't seen many issues with them. I feel the build quality is not as good as the older D series (I actually like my D620 over my E6410 and my mom's E6400). But nonetheless it is just as reliable as the old D series.

    4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
    Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module
    90W AC Adapter
    Internal Modem
    Operating System DVD
    No Camera
    125V Power Cord
14.1 inch Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) LED Display
    6 Cell Primary Battery, 60W
    NO LAT ON RDR
    512MB NVIDIA NVS 3100M
    Slate Silver
    Intel Core Processor i7-640M (2.8GHz, Dual Core/4 Threads, 4MB L3 cache)

Only thing I did not get was the Blue LCD Cover, but then I realized I could buy that seperately as a lot of people are selling them. It's got a stupid modem, but I guess I can disable that in the BIOS. Won't use the wireless much as I have the house wired for 100meg ethernet.

A modem is useful for auto-dialing, if you have the program for it, and for the occassional fax send/receive.

I've noticed this too, I was excited to get my hands on the E6400 and later the E6410 due to what I did at work, but I was underwhelmed build quality wise. It's not that the machine isn't solid overall, but there's little things like the dinky looking/feeling lid latch that sometimes got jammed, the cheap feel of the lid and one piece removable bottom (awesome but somewhat flimsy feeling) etc. The Elitebook competition looks a lot more premium (admittedly you pay more though!)

lol comparing an Elitebook to a Latitude is like comparing a Ferrari to a BMW. :p

I mean I feel like Dell did a number by making it feel more plasticy, but I guess that's why my D620 feels better built because it's bulkier. E series decided to get away from that and to lighter, more traditional notebook design.

Sure the D series is built like a tank, but overbuilt in my opinon.

The E series is the right balance between weight and portabillity.

They seemed to have worked on the lid, I have not had an E series lid jam since the *****J1 *****K1 service tags. Never had an E6410 lid jam.

Ive never seen one with any damage to the bottom lid, and the accessibillity it brings is well worth it. I hated removing the keyboard to get to a Ram module on the D series.

You can never be overbuilt! I've seen some D series notebooks beat to hell, and they just keep on working. My E6410 lid doesn't really jam but sometimes gets kinda stuck in limbo. Meh I'm giving it to Fedex on Monday to refund it back to Dell.

Removing the keyboard isn't that bad to get to the RAM...it's just like the older Dell notebooks. A flathead to remove to top power button panel, 2-4 screws for the keyboard and the RAM is right there..

I received my replacement outlet E6410 yesterday and am pretty happy with it. This one is also missing the optical drive screw and I can't figure out how to remove the modem port cover, but otherwise it's humming along nicely and I'm enjoying the 1440x900 screen. This one weighs just a hair under 5lbs. I must have done something wrong when I weighed the first one at 5.5lbs.
