For a while linux users had serious problems with the Intel graphics hardware on the Dell Latitude E6410.

I can now report that since I installed the Fedora 15 Alpha release in mid March those problems have gone away, using linux kernel 2.6.38.

For more details see Linux on my Dell Latitude (Now E6410) Laptop

    (Apologies for rather messy page.)

    Hello,

I realize your post was about a month old but I thought I'd answer anyway as it took me some time to find this workaround.

If you install the Admin Tools in the Intel Proset Wireless installation you can then change the Application Settings to Enable Adapter Switching. This setting can be saved as an Admin profile which will be defaulted across windows profiles.

As far as applying this setting over a network to multiple machines I don't have an answer for that.

I have some E6410/E4310 questions for you guys.

What is the benefit of using AHCI over the default Raid setting? After applying a fresh Win7 32-bit install to an E6410 it didn't have problems with the Raid setting in BIOS. All the reading on RAID vs AHCI that I've done is saying they're pretty much the same thing performance-wise. By going with Raid I'd be saving a step in deployment to change that BIOS setting. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything though.

I'm also curious about GK's staging process step:

"Extract SATA AHCI drivers (using the drivers-only download package) to USB flash drive and load during OS install (select option to load driver). Otherwise, Win7 installs a default AHCI driver that must then be updated manually using the drivers-only download package. Note that the drivers-only download package does not auto-install the drivers... just extracts.... but the full drivers-and-IRST-application package auto-installs both drivers and application. So if you use the later, you cannot avoid installing the IRST application (which is not used in AHCI mode)."

I created a Win7 32-bit image using many resources and after applying a retail Win7 32-bit install to the 6410 I apply the drivers in the following order. So far I haven't had many problems but I'm curious as to why it's best to avoid Intel Rapid Storage Technology install. Thanks!

    This is post-OS install on a retail win7 32-bit e6410 config:

    1- Intel Chipset Software A02 – R257446
    2- Dell System Software A01– R260745
    3- (Chipset) Ricoh R5U24X A04 – R263985
    4- Intel Rapid Storage Technology – R268416
    5- (Audio) IDT 92HDXXX HD Audio A17 – R278544
    6- (Video) Intel Multi Device A05 R296700
    7- Intel 825XX Gigabit A05– R280807
    8- Dell Control Point Security Driver A18 – R269802
    9- Dell Control Point System Manager A16 - R279620
    10- Dell Wireless 6520 – R280717
11- (Bluetooth driver) NIC DRVR WIN R254689
12- Dell Mobile Broadband Utility R275082
    13- (Bluetooth application) R285455
    14- Dell Multi-Touch Touchpad A06- R281462
    15- ST Micro Free Fall A00- R257449
    16- (Webcam)CREATIVE-LABS_E2-INTEGRATED-_A01_R269917
17- (Dell Client Update) APP WIN R301904

Another question is regarding the Webcam. The Dell Ricoh/Creative firmware update on the support site is working but the driver itself looks like a Windows 7 driver. The webcam isn't showing up in scanners and cameras. I read where some folks suggested the CD from the box, I will check that out. Hopefully it's more than the R269917 exe.

I've also noticed that the touchpad drivers keep popping up in the Dell Client System Update and fail to install. I applied the driver manually during staging and it looks good in device manager, although I noticed the right side of the touchpad wasn't scrolling web pages. I haven't had enough time to research this issue yet.

    Thanks for reading.

Dell ships RAID so it can't hurt much to maintain it. But if you don't use it, AHCI mode is known to be technically equivalent to IRRT mode performance-wise but without any RAID support/activity. Users wanting a lean system might opt to switch to AHCI mode. RAID was suspect in increased system latency which can concern some applications (audio recording), and device polling activity which could be an unwanted distraction, and maybe consumes more power? You may want to collect more technical opinions here before deciding what to roll out. For this user not using RAID and preparing to reimage, it was a simple choice... AHCI mode and skip the IRRT app.

Win7 will install a default driver for the E6410 SATA controller, but you will ultimately want to install or update to the native Intel driver. If you install the RAID driver AND the IRRT app, the app process(es) will run and consume system resources whether you use IRRT or not.

My E6410 webcam uses a default Win7 driver (6/21/06) for the webcam which only lists in Device Manager under Imaging. I then installed the Dell Webcam Central app from the OEM CD. Works fine in Skype.

The most recent touchpad driver I installed is DELL_MULTI-TOUCH-TOUCHPAD_A06_R281462.exe. This is a Dell.com download. Don't know what you mean by 'Dell Client System Update'.

Update on the AHCI controller driver issue: The faulty driver is the one installed by IRST, the working one is from the chipset driver.

Also the working one does have the same bug but it only appears on the bay-drive which is nowhere near as noticeable.

I've asked this over on the Networking and Wireless Forum, but got no responses. You guys seem to be pretty smart in here so I'd thought I ask here...

my Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 equipped laptop won't discover any WIMAX networks in Korea. I know they're out there, though.
Anybody have any ideas how I can connect this thing to a WIMAX network in Korea? I'd be happy to subscribe to a service once I can connect to one.

Guys, Is possible to add webcam if my laptop do not have it? Is enough to buy the webcam from ebay or also need cable to build into it?

Can I use a 65W adapter with my E6410? I have an i5 and Intel graphics.

    Thanks

I use two different 65W adapters with no problem. My E6410 also has an i5 and Intel graphics. It probably charges slower than with the 90W adapter, but still works fine.

I haven't a clue about this one. Usually you need to subscribe in order to access the system.

It is possible but you will also need to add a new display bezel to your shopping list. See the E6410 service manual.

I can confirm that 65W PSU is fine. Slower battery charging, if it happens, will improve battery longevity.

You need a SIM card from one of the local broadband companies inserted behind the battery and you need to turn off the wifi to enable the WiMax so it can look for signals. Intel's wireless manager should be used.
