It depends on what you use your machine for.

I personally do not like the aesthetics nor the feel of the E6420.

But performance wise, yes the E6420 is far superior than the E6410.

Too vague of a question... you'd have to tell us more about your uses, budget, etc. For example at $600, the E6410 at the outlet might give you better specs but if you're going to spend $2000, the E6420 has much more powerful options (especially if you're doing something CPU intensive).

I haven't used the E6420 as a daily computer, but I feel like it is less rugged than the older E6410. Though with the top metal part for the E6410 it feels like I am going to scratch it but I babied mine.

Better battery life is going to depend on specs and which battery you get.

My main concern though with the E6420 is how stable the chassis is (since I saw in the owner's thread the chassis was splitting). Also, do both have internal casing like the Thinkpad T-series do?

BTW, on a random note Tsunade, I also live in North Potomac! :D

Lenovo added the internal roll cage. I can tell you when I had my E6410, there was more chassis flex than my Z61t.

There were some reports of poor initial build quality on the E6420.

I haven't even touched an E6420, but judging by Dell's page:

    Well, E6410 pros:
-7 row keyboard with 2x3 nav block and divided F-keys (just like a desktop keyboard)
-Angular, less consumerish look - the E6410 looks awesome. Period.
-Bottom LED battery indicator (really nice since you can check battery
    -16:10
    -DisplayPort
-Dedicated audio and microphone jacks (E6420 combines them into one)

    E6420 pros:
    -Performance
    -Larger touchpad
    -USB ports aren't stacked
-E-modular (E6410 has a removable optical drive, but the options for what you can put in there are really little)
-1600x900 is a higher max resolution than 1440x900
    -HDMI
-180 degree LCD tilt (E6400 and E6410 are limited to around 160-170 degrees)
-The screen latch on the E6420 is probably better than on the E6410 judging by the details.
